    From Artificial Intelligence to Artificial Consciousness: An Interior Design Implication

    Artificial Intelligence continues to develop rapidly and provokes people to think about Artificial consciousness. Anthropocentric understanding considers consciousness a unique feature of human beings not possessed by other living beings. However, software and hardware development demonstrated the ability to process, analyze, and infer increasingly comprehensive data close to the image of human brain performance. Furthermore, the application of artificial Intelligence to human-friendly objects that can communicate with humans evokes the presence of consciousness within these objects. This paper discusses the presence of artificial consciousness in humanoid robots as an evolutionary continuation of artificial Intelligence. It estimates its implications for architecture, primarily within interior design. Consciousness has a special place in architecture, as it guides Intelligence in engineering and brings it to an abstract level, such as aesthetics. This paper extracts popular information from Internet conversations and theories in pre-existing scientific journals. This paper concludes that the adaptability of both parties and the balance of positions between the two parties in the future will influence the development of interior design approaches that will integrate artificial Intelligence and humans

    A report on SHARP (Spacecraft Health Automated Reasoning Prototype) and the Voyager Neptune encounter

    The development and application of the Spacecraft Health Automated Reasoning Prototype (SHARP) for the operations of the telecommunications systems and link analysis functions in Voyager mission operations are presented. An overview is provided of the design and functional description of the SHARP system as it was applied to Voyager. Some of the current problems and motivations for automation in real-time mission operations are discussed, as are the specific solutions that SHARP provides. The application of SHARP to Voyager telecommunications had the goal of being a proof-of-capability demonstration of artificial intelligence as applied to the problem of real-time monitoring functions in planetary mission operations. AS part of achieving this central goal, the SHARP application effort was also required to address the issue of the design of an appropriate software system architecture for a ground-based, highly automated spacecraft monitoring system for mission operations, including methods for: (1) embedding a knowledge-based expert system for fault detection, isolation, and recovery within this architecture; (2) acquiring, managing, and fusing the multiple sources of information used by operations personnel; and (3) providing information-rich displays to human operators who need to exercise the capabilities of the automated system. In this regard, SHARP has provided an excellent example of how advanced artificial intelligence techniques can be smoothly integrated with a variety of conventionally programmed software modules, as well as guidance and solutions for many questions about automation in mission operations

    Fuzzy Pattern Recognition Based Fault Diagnosis

    International audienceIn order to avoid catastrophic situations when the dynamics of a physical system (entity in Multi Agent System architecture) are evolving toward an undesirable operating mode, particular and quick safety actions have to be programmed in the control design. Classic control (PID and even state model based methods) becomes powerless for complex plants (nonlinear, MIMO and ill-defined systems). A more efficient diagnosis requires an artificial intelligence approach. We propose in this paper the design of a Fuzzy Pattern Recognition System (FPRS) that solves, in real time, the main following problems: 1) Identification of an actual state; 2) Identification of an eventual evolution towards a failure state; 3) Diagnosis and decision-making. Simulations have been carried for a fictive complex process plant with the objective to evaluate the consistency and the performance of the proposed diagnosis philosophy. The obtained results seem to be encouraging and very promising for application to fault diagnosis of a real and complex plant process

    A modular artificial intelligence and asset administration shell approach to streamline testing processes in manufacturing services

    The increasing demand for personalized products and cost-effectiveness has highlighted the necessity of integrating intelligence into production systems. This integration is crucial for enabling intelligent control that can adapt to variations in features, parts, and conditions, thereby enhancing functionalities while reducing costs. This research emphasizes the incorporation of intelligence in testing processes within production systems. We introduce a novel approach for controlling testing functionality using an asset administration shell enriched with modular artificial intelligence. The proposed architecture is not only effective in controlling the execution behavior through services but also offers the distinct advantage of a modular design. This modularity significantly contributes to the system's adaptability and scalability, allowing for more efficient and cost-effective solutions as different machine-learning models may be substituted to meet requirements. The effectiveness of this approach is validated through a practical use case of leak testing, demonstrating the benefits of the modular architecture in a real-world application

    Vehicles are complex systems as they combine several engineering disciplines, such as mechanical, electric, electronic, software and telecommunication. In the last decades, most innovations in the automotive domain have been achieved as a combination of electronics and software. Consequently, the software development and deployment has resulted a highly sophisticated engineering process to manage and to integrate. With the introduction of artificial intelligence, automated driving has become a reality. However it has additionally increased the requirements on the system design. One widely accepted approach to manage complexity is to divide the system into subsystems through a well-defined architecture. The architecture of an autonomous system must be suitable to guarantee that the self-driving functionality remains safe in a broad range of operational domains. The challenge is how to design the architecture of the system to be reliable and resilient to changing context. The automotive industry has well established standards and development practices, but it is open to explore and integrate solutions from other domains like Internet of Things and Robotics. In the area of autonomous systems, the capabilities of the robotics middleware ROS2 have been used for prototyping purposes. It is an open question whether ROS2 is suitable for automotive safety relevant applications. This master thesis addresses this challenge through evaluating the possible application of ROS2 in the automotive domain. The development consists of implementing an architecture for an autonomous driving function case-study, an Automated Parking System, which adapts to its context by switching between different operational modes. The Automated Parking System has been implemented and validated in a simulation environment. The experiment results show which benefits bring ROS2 compared with the automotive standardised architecture AUTOSAR

    A Revolution of Personalized Healthcare: Enabling Human Digital Twin with Mobile AIGC

    Mobile Artificial Intelligence-Generated Content (AIGC) technology refers to the adoption of AI algorithms deployed at mobile edge networks to automate the information creation process while fulfilling the requirements of end users. Mobile AIGC has recently attracted phenomenal attentions and can be a key enabling technology for an emerging application, called human digital twin (HDT). HDT empowered by the mobile AIGC is expected to revolutionize the personalized healthcare by generating rare disease data, modeling high-fidelity digital twin, building versatile testbeds, and providing 24/7 customized medical services. To promote the development of this new breed of paradigm, in this article, we propose a system architecture of mobile AIGC-driven HDT and highlight the corresponding design requirements and challenges. Moreover, we illustrate two use cases, i.e., mobile AIGC-driven HDT in customized surgery planning and personalized medication. In addition, we conduct an experimental study to prove the effectiveness of the proposed mobile AIGC-driven HDT solution, which shows a particular application in a virtual physical therapy teaching platform. Finally, we conclude this article by briefly discussing several open issues and future directions
