Cache-Enabled in Cooperative Cognitive Radio Networks for Transmission Performance
The proliferation of mobile devices that support the acceleration of data services (especially smartphones) has resulted in a dramatic increase in mobile traffic. Mobile data also increased exponentially, already exceeding the throughput of the backhaul. To improve spectrum utilization and increase mobile network traffic, in combination with content caching, we study the cooperation between primary and secondary networks via content caching. We consider that the secondary base station assists the primary user by pre-caching some popular primary contents. Thus, the secondary base station can obtain more licensed bandwidth to serve its own user. We mainly focus on the time delay from the backhaul link to the secondary base station. First, in terms of the content caching and the transmission strategies, we provide a cooperation scheme to maximize the secondary user’s effective data transmission rates under the constraint of the primary users target rate. Then, we investigate the impact of the caching allocation and prove that the formulated problem is a concave problem with regard to the caching capacity allocation for any given power allocation. Furthermore, we obtain the joint caching and power allocation by an effective bisection search algorithm. Finally, our results show that the content caching cooperation scheme can achieve significant performance gain for the primary and secondary systems over the traditional two-hop relay cooperation without caching
Simulações de Monte Carlo validam os resultados analĂticos apresentadosAbstract: Underlay spectrum sharing has been proposed as a promising technique to alleviate the problem of spectrum scarcity and underutilization, by enabling secondary (unlicensed) users to concurrently access a licensed band, provided that the resulting interference on the primary (licensed) users remains below a given acceptable level. However, such a technique implies that the transmit power at the secondary network must be constrained, thereby compromising the communication reliability and coverage. To counteract this, cooperative relaying techniques, which provide a new form of spatial diversity, can be exploited as an effective means to boost the performance of the secondary network. Indeed, the joint use of both techniquesÂżunderlay spectrum sharing and cooperative relayingÂżin cognitive relaying networks has drawn special attention, since the overall spectral efficiency and the secondary-network performance can be significantly improved. This dissertation comprises four main contributions in this field. In particular, we examine the combined effect of two crucial power constraints on the outage performance of cognitive relaying networks, namely, the maximum tolerable interference power at the primary receiver and the maximum transmit power at the secondary users. We focus on relaying schemes operating under the decode-and-forward protocol, for scenarios in which the direct link between source and destination is available to convey useful information. As a first contribution, we analyze the performance of two incremental half-duplex relaying schemes, which exploit the spatial diversity of the direct links in a multiuser scenario. Our second contribution investigates the impact of outdated channel estimates on the destination-scheduling mechanism of one of those incremental schemes, from the perspective of a cooperative network only, that is, in the absence of spectrum sharing. The third contribution addresses cognitive full-duplex relaying networks. More specifically, we assess the system performance as a function of both the residual self-interference, which is inherent to the full-duplex relaying mode, and the underlay spectrum-sharing power constraints. As a final contribution, driven by the tradeoff between the spectral-efficiency loss and the residual self-interference problem, intrinsic to the half- and full-duplex relaying modes, respectively, we propose and analyze an adaptive transmission scheme whereby, before each communication process, one out of the following transmission modes is selected: half-duplex relaying, full-duplex relaying, or direct transmission. For all the considered scenarios, exact analytical expressions for the outage probability are derived. In addition, an asymptotic analysis is performed to obtain further insights on the diversity order and outage behavior of the secondary network at the high signal-to-noise ratio regime. Monte Carlo simulations corroborate the accuracy of the presented mathematical analysisDoutoradoTelecomunicações e TelemáticaDoutor em Engenharia ElĂ©tricaCAPE
No entanto, as ligações
The proliferation of different mobile devices, bandwidth-intensive applications
and services contribute to the increase in the broadband connections
and the volume of traffic on the mobile networks. This exponential growth
has put considerable pressure on the mobile network operators (MNOs). In
principal, there is a need for networks that not only offer low-complexity,
low-energy consumption, and extremely low-latency but also high-capacity
at relatively low cost. In order to address the demand, MNOs have given significant
attention to the cloud radio access network (C-RAN) due to its beneficial
features in terms of performance optimization and cost-effectiveness.
The de facto standard for distributing wireless signal over the C-RAN fronthaul
is the common public radio interface (CPRI). However, optical links
based on CPRI interfaces requires large bandwidth. Also, the aforementioned
requirements can be realized with the implementation of free space
optical (FSO) link, which is an optical wireless system. The FSO is an appealing
alternative to the radio frequency (RF) communication system that
combines the flexibility and mobility offered by the RF networks with the
high-data rates provided by the optical systems. However, the FSO links are
susceptible to atmospheric impairments which eventually hinder the system
performance. Consequently, these limitations prevent FSO from being an
efficient standalone fronthaul solution. So, precise channel characterizations
and advanced technologies are required for practical FSO link deployment
and operation. In this thesis, we study an efficient fronthaul implementation
that is based on radio-on-FSO (RoFSO) technologies. We propose closedform
expressions for fading-mitigation and for the estimation of channel
capacity so as to alleviate the system complexity. Numerical simulations
are presented for adaptive modulation scheme using advanced modulation
formats. We also consider schemes like hybrid RF/FSO and relay-assisted
transmission technologies that can help in alleviating the stringent requirements
by the C-RAN backhaul/fronthaul. The propose models not only
reduce the computational requirements/efforts, but also have a number of
diverse merits such as high-accuracy, low-memory requirements, fast and
stable operation compared to the current state-of-the-art analytical based
approaches. In addition to the FSO channel characterization, we present
a proof-of-concept experiment in which we study the transmission capabilities
of a hybrid passive optical network (PON)-FSO system. This is
implemented with the real-time receiver that is emulated by a commercial
field-programmable gate array (FPGA). This helps in facilitating an
open system and hence enables interoperability, portability, and open software
standards. The hybrid schemes have the ability to support different
applications, services, and multiple operators over a shared optical fiber
infrastructure
Economically sustainable public security and emergency network exploiting a broadband communications satellite
The research contributes to work in Rapid Deployment of a National Public Security and Emergency Communications Network using Communication Satellite Broadband. Although studies in Public Security Communication networks have examined the use of communications satellite as an integral part of the Communication Infrastructure, there has not been an in-depth design analysis of an optimized regional broadband-based communication satellite in relation to the envisaged service coverage area, with little or no terrestrial last-mile telecommunications infrastructure for delivery of satellite solutions, applications and services.
As such, the research provides a case study of a Nigerian Public Safety Security Communications Pilot project deployed in regions of the African continent with inadequate terrestrial last mile infrastructure and thus requiring a robust regional Communications Satellite complemented with variants of terrestrial wireless technologies to bridge the digital hiatus as a short and medium term measure apart from other strategic needs.
The research not only addresses the pivotal role of a secured integrated communications Public safety network for security agencies and emergency service organizations with its potential to foster efficient information symmetry amongst their operations including during emergency and crisis management in a timely manner but demonstrates a working model of how analogue spectrum meant for Push-to-Talk (PTT) services can be re-farmed and digitalized as a “dedicated” broadband-based public communications system. The network’s sustainability can be secured by using excess capacity for the strategic commercial telecommunication needs of the state and its citizens. Utilization of scarce spectrum has been deployed for Nigeria’s Cashless policy pilot project for financial and digital inclusion. This effectively drives the universal access goals, without exclusivity, in a continent, which still remains the least wired in the world
