System optimization by multiobjective genetic algorithms and analysis of the coupling between variables, constraints and objectives
This paper presents a methodology based on Multiobjective Genetic Algorithms (MOGA’s) for the design of electrical engineering systems. MOGA’s allow to optimize multiple heterogeneous criteria in complex systems, but also simplify couplings and sensitivity analysis by determining the evolution of design variables along the Pareto-optimal front. A rather simplified case study dealing with the optimal dimensioning of an inverter – permanent magnet motor – reducer – load association is carried out to demonstrate the interest of the approach
Towards Scalable Network Delay Minimization
Reduction of end-to-end network delays is an optimization task with
applications in multiple domains. Low delays enable improved information flow
in social networks, quick spread of ideas in collaboration networks, low travel
times for vehicles on road networks and increased rate of packets in the case
of communication networks. Delay reduction can be achieved by both improving
the propagation capabilities of individual nodes and adding additional edges in
the network. One of the main challenges in such design problems is that the
effects of local changes are not independent, and as a consequence, there is a
combinatorial search-space of possible improvements. Thus, minimizing the
cumulative propagation delay requires novel scalable and data-driven
approaches.
In this paper, we consider the problem of network delay minimization via node
upgrades. Although the problem is NP-hard, we show that probabilistic
approximation for a restricted version can be obtained. We design scalable and
high-quality techniques for the general setting based on sampling and targeted
to different models of delay distribution. Our methods scale almost linearly
with the graph size and consistently outperform competitors in quality
A lexicographic multi-objective genetic algorithm for multi-label correlation-based feature selection
This paper proposes a new Lexicographic multi-objective Genetic Algorithm for Multi-Label Correlation-based Feature Selection (LexGA-ML-CFS), which is an extension of the previous single-objective Genetic Algorithm for Multi-label Correlation-based Feature Selection (GA-ML-CFS). This extension uses a LexGA as a global search method for generating candidate feature subsets. In our experiments, we compare the results obtained by LexGA-ML-CFS with the results obtained by the original hill climbing-based ML-CFS, the single-objective GA-ML-CFS and a baseline Binary Relevance method, using ML-kNN as the multi-label classifier. The results from our experiments show that LexGA-ML-CFS improved predictive accuracy, by comparison with other methods, in some cases, but in general there was no statistically significant different between the results of LexGA-ML-CFS and other methods
