Task based model for récit generation from sensor data: an early experiment

    No full text
International audienceAutomatic story generation is the object of a growing research effort in Computing Sciences. However, in this domain, stories are generally produced from fictional data. In this paper, we present the general approach for automatic story generation from real data focusing on the narrative planning. The aim is to generate récit from sensor observations of skiers going for a ski sortie. The modelling of the récit as well as some preliminary experiments are introduced and suggest the interest of the approach

Emotions ontology for collaborative modelling and learning of emotional responses

    Get PDF
Emotions-aware applications are getting a lot of attention as a way to improve the user experience, and also thanks to increasingly affordable Brain Computer Interfaces (BCI). Thus, projects collecting emotion-related data are proliferating, like social networks sentiment analysis or tracking students" engagement to reduce Massive Online Open Courses (MOOCs) drop out rates. All them require a common way to represent emotions so it can be more easily integrated, shared and reused by applications improving user experience. Due to the complexity of this data, our proposal is to use rich semantic models based on ontology. EmotionsOnto is a generic ontology for describing emotions and their detection and expression systems taking contextual and multimodal elements into account. The ontology has been applied in the context of EmoCS, a project that collaboratively collects emotion common sense and models it using the EmotionsOnto and other ontologies. Currently, emotion input is provided manually by users. However, experiments are being conduced to automatically measure users"s emotional states using Brain Computer Interfaces

Copyright @ 2009 Elsevier B.V.Providing alert communication in emergency situations is vital to reduce the number of victims. Reaching this goal is challenging due to users’ diversity: people with disabilities, elderly and children, and other vulnerable groups. Notifications are critical when an emergency scenario is going to happen (e.g. a typhoon approaching) so the ability to transmit notifications to different kind of users is a crucial feature for such systems. In this work an ontology was developed by investigating different sources: accessibility guidelines, emergency response systems, communication devices and technologies, taking into account the different abilities of people to react to different alarms (e.g. mobile phone vibration as an alarm for deafblind people). We think that the proposed ontology addresses the information needs for sharing and integrating emergency notification messages over distinct emergency response information systems providing accessibility under different conditions and for different kind of users.Ministerio de Educación y Cienci

Network tourism: A fallacy of location privacy!

    Get PDF
This contribution aims to discuss if “locational” privacy in tourism is a fallacy! Nevertheless, the authors inform that the reason for this debate is 21st century tourist distinctive characteristic, constantly “wired” through ICT, leading to serious ethical issues as regards to personal privacy. Therefore, this paper is divided into five core sections: background (tourist, and ICT for tourism and tourist); control (etymology, the thin bound concerning security, and control and personal data); privacy (the concept, evolution, and dimensions); empirical evidences (overview, crime scene investigation, and keen exhibits); and finally, discussion (act 1 and act 2)

    Navegador ontológico matemático-NOMAT

The query algorithms in search engines use indexing, contextual analysis and ontologies, among other techniques, for text search. However, they do not use equations due to their writing complexity. NOMAT is a prototype of mathematical expression search engine that seeks information both in thesaurus and internet, using ontological tool for filtering and contextualizing information and LaTeX editor for the symbols in these expressions. This search engine was created to support mathematical research. Compared to other Internet search engines, NOMAT does not require prior knowledge of LaTeX, because has an editing tool which enables writing directly the symbols that make up the mathematical expression of interest. The results obtained were accurate and contextualized, compared to other commercial and no-commercial search engines.

An Egocentric Spatial Data Model for Intelligent Mobile Geographic Information Systems

Individuals in unknown locations, such as utility workers in the field, soldiers on a mission, or sightseeing tourists, share the need for an answer to two basic questions: Where am I? and What is in front of me?Because such information is not readily available in foreign locations, aids in the form of paper maps or mobile GISs, which give individuals an all-inclusive view of the environment, are often used. This panoptic view may hinder the positioning and orienteering process, since people perceive their surroundings perspectively from their current position. In this thesis, I describe a novel framework that resolves this problem by applying sensors that gather the individual\u27s spatial frame of reference. This spatial frame of reference, in combination with an egocentric spatial data model enables an injective mapping between the real world and the data frame of reference, hence, alleviating the individual\u27s cognitive workload. Furthermore, our egocentric spatial data model allows intelligent mobile Geographic Information Systems to capture the notions of here and there, and, consequently, provides insight into the individual\u27s surroundings. Finally, our framework, in conjunction with the context given by the task to be performed, enables intelligent mobile Geographic Information Systems to implicitly answer questions with respect to where, what, and how

    Managing Conversation Uncertainty in TutorJ

    Get PDF
Uncertainty in natural language dialogue is often treated through stochastic models. Some of the authors already presented TutorJ mat is an Intelligent Tutoring System, whose interaction with the user is very intensive, and makes use of both dialogic and graphical modality. When managing the interaction, the system needs to cope with uncertainty due to the understanding of the user's needs and wishes. In this paper we present the extended version of TutorJ, focusing on the new features added to its chatbot module. These features allow to merge deterministic and probabilistic reasoning in dialogue management, and in writing the rules of the system's procedural memory
