    Cloud manufacturing system for sheet metal processing

    Cloud computing is changing the way industries and enterprises run their businesses. Cloud manufacturing is emerging as an approach to transform the traditional manufacturing business model, while helping the manufacturer to align production efficiency with its business strategy, and creating intelligent factory networks that enable collaboration across the whole enterprise. Many production planning and control (PPC) problems are essentially optimisation problems, where the objective is to develop a plan that meets the demand at minimum cost or maximum profit. Because the underlying optimisation problem will vary in the different business and operation phases, it is important to think about optimisation in a dynamic mechanism and in a number of interlinked sub-problems at the same time. Cloud manufacturing has the potential to offer decision support as a service and medium of communication in PPC. To solve these problems and produce collaboration across the supply chain, this paper provides an overview of the state of the art in cloud manufacturing and presents a model of cloud-based production planning and production system for sheet metal processing.fi=vertaisarvioitu|en=peerReviewed

    Scheduling and Batching in Multi-Site Flexible Flow Shop Environments

    Global competition and the customers demand for customized products with shorter due dates, marked the introduction of the Extended Enterprise. In this Extended Manufacturing Environment (EME), lean, virtual, networked and distributed enterprises collaborate to respond to the market demands. In this paper we study the influence of the batch size on Flexible Flow Shop makespan minimization problem FFC vertical bar vertical bar C-max for two multi-sites approaches, the FSBF (Flow Shop Based Factories) and the PMBF (Parallel-Machines Based Factories).     An integrated framework for supporting fuzzy decision-making in networked manufacturing environments

    In this paper we propose an integrated framework, based on smart objects to support fuzzy decision-making processes applied to manufacturing environments. The processes involved range from factory-production level up to higher decision-making levels, either in the context of traditional single enterprises, up to the one of supply chains and distributed and ubiquitous manufacturing environments. Therefore, the proposed framework promotes contributions for solving different kind of problems, including, among others: networked supply chain management; production planning and control; factory supervision and productivity management; real-time monitoring; data acquisition and processing. The web access via different middleware devices and tools at different process levels, along with the use of integrated algorithms and smart objects, which is possible and will promote an optimized use of knowledge and resources for supporting better decision-making.
