    Get PDF
Global climate change and anthropological activities have led to a decline in insect pollinators worldwide. Agricultural globalisation and intensification have also removed crops from their natural insect pollinators, and sparked research to identify alternate natural insect pollinators and artificial technologies. In certain countries such as Australia the importation of commercial insect pollinators is prohibited, necessitating manual labour to stimulate floral pollination. Artificial pollination technologies are now increasingly essential as the demand for food grown in protected facilities increases worldwide. For tomato fruits, precision pollination has the ability to vastly improve their seed set, size, yield, and quality under optimal environmental conditions and has become financially beneficial. Like many crops from the Solanaceae, tomatoes have a unique self-pollinating mechanism that requires stimulation of the floral organs to release pollen from the poricidal anthers. This review investigates various mechanisms employed to pollinate tomato flowers and discusses emerging precision pollination technologies. The advantages and disadvantages of various pollinating technologies currently available in the protected-cropping industry are described. We provide a buzz perspective on new promising pollination technologies involving robotic air and acoustic devices that are still in their nascency and could provide non-contact techniques to automate pollination for the tomato horticultural industry

The reconstruction of gene regulatory networks (GRNs) from genes profiles has a growing interest in bioinformatics for understanding the complex regulatory mechanisms in cellular systems. GRNs explicitly represent the cause-effect of regulation among a group of genes and its reconstruction is today a challenging computational problem. Several methods were proposed, but most of them require different input sources to provide an acceptable prediction. Thus, it is a great challenge to reconstruct a GRN only from temporal gene-expression data. Results: Extreme Learning Machine (ELM) is a new supervised neural model that has gained interest in the last years because of its higher learning rate and better performance than existing supervised models in terms of predictive power. This work proposes a novel approach for GRNs reconstruction in which ELMs are used for modeling the relationships between gene expression time series. Artificial datasets generated with the well-known benchmark tool used in DREAM competitions were used. Real datasets were used for validation of this novel proposal with well-known GRNs underlying the time series. The impact of increasing the size of GRNs was analyzed in detail for the compared methods. The results obtained confirm the superiority of the ELM approach against very recent state-of-the-art methods in the same experimental conditions.Fil: Rubiolo, Mariano. Generator instability, which manifests as oscillations in frequency and rotor angle, is brought on by sudden disruptions in the power supply. Power System Stabilizer (PSS) and Energy Storage are additional controllers that enhance generator stability. Energy storage types include superconducting magnetic (SMES) and capacitive (CES) storage. If the correct settings are employed, PSS, SMES, and CES coordination can boost system performance. It is necessary to use accurate and effective PSS, SMES, and CES tuning techniques. Artificial intelligence techniques can replace traditional trial-and-error tuning techniques and assist in adjusting controller parameters. According to this study, the PSS, SMES, and CES parameters can be optimized using a method based on particle swarm optimization (PSO). Based on the investigation's findings, PSO executes quick and accurate calculations in the fifth iteration with a fitness function value of 0.007813. The PSO aims to reduce the integral time absolute error (ITAE). With the addition of a load-shedding instance, the case study utilized the Single Machine Infinite Bus (SMIB) technology. The frequency response and rotor angle of the SMIB system are shown via time domain simulation. The analysis's findings demonstrate that the controller combination can offer stability, reducing overshoot oscillations and enabling quick settling times.

Over the past two decades, the feedforward neural network (FNN) optimization has been a key interest among the researchers and practitioners of multiple disciplines. The FNN optimization is often viewed from the various perspectives: the optimization of weights, network architecture, activation nodes, learning parameters, learning environment, etc. Researchers adopted such different viewpoints mainly to improve the FNN's generalization ability. The gradient-descent algorithm such as backpropagation has been widely applied to optimize the FNNs. Its success is evident from the FNN's application to numerous real-world problems. However, due to the limitations of the gradient-based optimization methods, the metaheuristic algorithms including the evolutionary algorithms, swarm intelligence, etc., are still being widely explored by the researchers aiming to obtain generalized FNN for a given problem. This article attempts to summarize a broad spectrum of FNN optimization methodologies including conventional and metaheuristic approaches. This article also tries to connect various research directions emerged out of the FNN optimization practices, such as evolving neural network (NN), cooperative coevolution NN, complex-valued NN, deep learning, extreme learning machine, quantum NN, etc. Additionally, it provides interesting research challenges for future research to cope-up with the present information processing era

ACO-GCN: A FAULT DETECTION FUSION ALGORITHM FOR WIRELESS SENSOR NETWORK NODES

    Get PDF
Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) has become a solution for real-time monitoring environments and is widely used in various fields. A substantial number of sensors in WSNs are prone to succumb to failures due to faulty attributes, complex working environments, and their hardware, resulting in transmission error data. To resolve the existing problem of fault detection in WSN, this paper presents a WSN node fault detection method based on ant colony optimization-graph convolutional network (ACO-GCN) models, which consists of an input layer, a space-time processing layer, and an output layer. First, the users apply the random search algorithm and the search strategy of the ant colony algorithm (ACO) to find the optimal path and locate the WSN node failures to grasp the overall situation. Then, the WSN fault node information obtained by the GCN model is learned. During the data training process, where the WSN fault node is used for error prediction, the weights and thresholds of the network are further adjusted to increase the accuracy of fault diagnosis. To evaluate the performance of the ACO-GCN model, the results show that the ACO-GCN model significantly improves the fault detection rate and reduces the false alarm rate compared with the benchmark algorithms. Moreover, the proposed ACO-GCN fusion algorithm can identify fault sensors more effectively, improve the service quality of WSN and enhance the stability of the system
