Computer supports have diversified the possibilities for interactivity in classroom teaching. Collaborative games, response feedback systems and simulated participation are indicative of the wide range of activities for which these technologies have found application in classroom education processes. In this article, evidence is offered for the contributions made to classroom pedagogical processes by computer mediation. The bibliographic analysis conducted permitted the identification of 2 pedagogic processes generated, an inductive and a deductive one, were identified. The computer-mediated teaching activities associated with each process in this literature were then classified and analyzed. Finally, inferences were drawn regarding the advantages of computer mediation in this scenario, being the main contributions, structuring and gradual deepening of subject content, the strengthening of collaboration processes, the diversification of learning environments and increased student participation.

Visualisation Method Toolkit: a shared vocabulary to face complexity

    Get PDF
With companies, universities, individuals or entire departments, promoting open dialogue, constant interdisciplinary collaboration is a challenge that still meets some resistance. Learning to deal with complexity, with the coexistence of different points of view, learning to work in more heterogeneous teams, in relation to know-how combined in new, sometimes original and challenging formulations, brings particular needs. From the importance of language and a shared vocabulary to the ever-increasing need to work on tools and not just applications, from the constant promotion of collaboration and contamination between different backgrounds and disciplines to the guarantee of a continuous training process through laboratory activities and workshop, this contribution - through the Visualisation Method Toolkit project and its experimentation - investigates the potential of data visualization as a medium to bring design closer to a company's core business as well as support students, institutions and other organizations in communication, both in the analysis and/or scenario phase and in support of dissemination actions towards a more informed quanti/qualitative collective decision making with the aim of enabling new innovative and sustainable good practices

Ensuring Teaching Continuity: Chilean University Students’ Perception on Remote Teaching of English during COVID 19 Pandemic

The objective of our study is to know the perception of Chilean university students toward the pedagogical methodologies in online English classes during the COVID-19 pandemic. We applied a questionnaire (built by fifteen experts, validated through a pilot test of 34 students, and improved with licensed 21.0 version SPSS in terms of consistency) to 341 students from different university programs. We analyzed the responses quantitatively and qualitatively and found out that 75% of the 341 students surveyed have shown agreement with the pedagogical methodologies applied in online classes and motivation in learning due to the permanent concern and communication of the teacher in charge. Besides, the students have also yielded satisfactory learning outcomes. These results reveal that the online English teaching of Chilean higher education during the pandemic has been good and indirectly show the willingness of Chilean university teachers to receive relevant and continuous training to deliver quality education. In 2022, many countries have returned to face-to-face classes, but we believe that the pedagogical methodologies used in this research could serve as a reference for teachers or researchers worldwide who wish to incorporate into their face-to-face classes a part of online teaching and do research on online English teaching

Latin American perspectives to internationalize undergraduate information technology education

The computing education community expects modern curricular guidelines for information technology (IT) undergraduate degree programs by 2017. The authors of this work focus on eliciting and analyzing Latin American academic and industry perspectives on IT undergraduate education. The objective is to ensure that the IT curricular framework in the IT2017 report articulates the relationship between academic preparation and the work environment of IT graduates in light of current technological and educational trends in Latin America and elsewhere. Activities focus on soliciting and analyzing survey data collected from institutions and consortia in IT education and IT professional and educational societies in Latin America; these activities also include garnering the expertise of the authors. Findings show that IT degree programs are making progress in bridging the academic-industry gap, but more work remains

A utilidade das opções de escolha virtual: As escolas puramente virtuais aumentam o valor para os alunos?

Online education has grown in popularity as a choice option over the past decade.  A variety of studies exist on methodologies for content delivery and on the impacts of online education for specific communities.  However, few works have considered the utility of online educational choices in comparison to physical schools.  Using an expected utility model this paper examines the value conferred to a student in an online charter school versus traditional physical schools in the same state.  Value in this case is defined as the likelihood of performing better on a standardized test. This article makes an analysis of the pedagogical teaching practices used and developed by Chilean physical education teachers during the coronavirus disease 19 (COVID-19) pandemic periods. The virus from China spread around the world, changed our daily lives and as such, at the same time impacted the educational system in a matter of weeks. Confinement led educational systems to eliminate face-to-face and use virtual teaching in order to continue with the teaching-learning processes, including the physical education discipline. From the methodological point of view, the study is installed in the interpretive-qualitative perspective, in such a way that 14 semi-structured interviews were carried by physical education teachers from the Maule-Chile region, via team, Zoom, Skype, because of the pandemic, face-to-face contact was impossible. The result of the study shows the impact on the quality of life of teachers and students because of the confinement. The pedagogical reconfiguration that teachers experienced in a matter of days, led them to use different virtual platforms to continue connected with their students, in order to deploy the learning objectives defined by the Chilean Ministry of Education. However, the foregoing shows the scarce possibility of verifying student learning, due to the difficulties of monitoring and feedback

    Remote experimentation network - yielding an inter-university peer-to-peer e-service

The goal of this paper is to discuss the benefits and challenges of yielding an inter-continental network of remote laboratories supported and used by both European and Latin American Institutions of Higher Education. Since remote experimentation, understood as the ability to carry out real-world experiments through a simple web browser, is already a proven solution for the educational community as a supplement to on-site practical lab work (and in some cases, namely for distance learning courses, a replacement to that work), the purpose is not to discuss its technical, pedagogical, or economical strengths, but rather to raise and try to answer some questions about the underlying benefits and challenges of establishing a peer-to-peer network of remote labs. Ultimately, we regard such a network as a constructive mechanism to help students gain the working and social skills often valued by multinational/global companies, while also providing awareness of local cultural aspects
