Load Balancing and Virtual Machine Allocation in Cloud-based Data Centers

    Get PDF
As cloud services see an exponential increase in consumers, the demand for faster processing of data and a reliable delivery of services becomes a pressing concern. This puts a lot of pressure on the cloud-based data centers, where the consumers’ data is stored, processed and serviced. The rising demand for high quality services and the constrained environment, make load balancing within the cloud data centers a vital concern. This project aims to achieve load balancing within the data centers by means of implementing a Virtual Machine allocation policy, based on consensus algorithm technique. The cloud-based data center system, consisting of Virtual Machines has been simulated on CloudSim – a Java based cloud simulator

A Review on Energy Consumption Optimization Techniques in IoT Based Smart Building Environments

In recent years, due to the unnecessary wastage of electrical energy in residential buildings, the requirement of energy optimization and user comfort has gained vital importance. In the literature, various techniques have been proposed addressing the energy optimization problem. The goal of each technique was to maintain a balance between user comfort and energy requirements such that the user can achieve the desired comfort level with the minimum amount of energy consumption. Researchers have addressed the issue with the help of different optimization algorithms and variations in the parameters to reduce energy consumption. To the best of our knowledge, this problem is not solved yet due to its challenging nature. The gap in the literature is due to the advancements in the technology and drawbacks of the optimization algorithms and the introduction of different new optimization algorithms. Further, many newly proposed optimization algorithms which have produced better accuracy on the benchmark instances but have not been applied yet for the optimization of energy consumption in smart homes. In this paper, we have carried out a detailed literature review of the techniques used for the optimization of energy consumption and scheduling in smart homes. The detailed discussion has been carried out on different factors contributing towards thermal comfort, visual comfort, and air quality comfort. We have also reviewed the fog and edge computing techniques used in smart homes

Cloud computing (CC) is a service that uses subscription storage & computing power. Load balancing in distributed systems is one of the most critical pieces. CC has been a very interesting and important area of research because CC is one of the best systems that stores data with reduced costs and can be viewed over the internet at all times. Load balance facilitates maintaining high user retention & resource utilization by ensuring that each computing resource is correctly and properly distributed. This paper describes cloud-based load balancing systems. CC is virtualization of hardware like storage, computing, and security by virtual machines (VM). The live relocation of these machines provides many advantages, including high availability, hardware repair, fault tolerance, or workload balancing. In addition to various VM migration facilities, during the migration process, it is subject to significant security risks which the industry hesitates to accept. In this paper we have discussed CC besides this we also emphasize various existing load balancing algorithms, advantages& also we describe the PSO optimization technique

Cloud computing has intern the attention of today’s leading IT industries offering huge potential for more flexible, readily scalable and cost effective IT operation. There is a significant anticipation for emergent innovation and expanded capabilities of a cloud-based environment as the cloud services are still in the infant stage. With all technology innovation, the biggest gain will be realized when the Cloud services are efficiently utilized. One of the prime contributions of Cloud is its capacity to handle a huge amount of data for either processing or storing. The inadequacy of this model is that it is prone to disaster. Some of the popular scheduling techniques applied by the researchers and leading IT industries are Round Robin, Preemptive scheduling etc. This research focuses on a novel approach for disaster management through efficient scheduling mechanism. This paper presents a Priority Preemptive scheduling (PPS) with aging of the low priority jobs in Cloud for disaster management. The implementation results show that the jobs at any instance of time are provided with the resources and henceforth preventing them to enter the starvation, which is one of the prime causes for disaster
