    Get PDF
Due to roaming, a mobile device may change its network attachment each time it moves to a new link. This might cause a disruption for the Internet data packets that have to reach the mobile node. Mobile IP is a protocol, developed by the Mobile IP Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) working group, that is able to inform the network about this change in network attachment such that the Internet data packets will be delivered in a seamless way to the new point of attachment. This document presents current developments and research activities in the Mobile IP area

Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) is one of the new networking environments where it supports the mobility of the network user without being encumbered by the cable existence. Since the current Local Area Network (LAN) in Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP) is fairly growth and the performance reliability is good shifting the current setup to WLAN is locally accepted. This will benefit all the UTP users including students, respective lecturers, and beneficial for administration line of staff. The current planning and setup will cover certain stages in order to build a high reliability and best performance of the WLAN environment. Data transmission and signal strength for the area is fairly surveyed in order to result the best performance and ability to transmit data in bit per second required. Research and questionnaire have also been done throughout the UTP students, IT Media Services Executives, respective IT Consultants from KLCCB Project Berhad in order to determine the best design concept to be applied in UTP campus and to determine the best place for WLAN to be implemented. Usage models are also needed to be determined in order to support the activity that will be in the WLAN environment. The conceptual design of WLAN environment will cater the area of the student residential including the Student Center, cafeteria, and residential buildings for Village 3,4 and 5. With help of this design it will be easier to determine the location of all the devices such as the wireless access point (AP) and security access point (SAP) as to roam the signal coverage and to secure the signal for data transmission. The technology use in data transmission is also being covered in this research paper, which includes the Spread Spectrum LAN. As to meet the problem statement requirement to ensure the system meets the budgeted cost, the author came out with the budgeting plan for all the devices allocated for the WLAN setup. The WLAN planning and setup in UTP research will help the UTP management in getting the grasp idea how to setup WLAN environment in UTP campus and to compliance with the current LAN setup and to secure the cost and budgeting for all devices related

    Get PDF
The current infrastructure being used for IT courses at the University of Northwestern Ohio is not adequate for students. In addition, hands-on components of courses are difficult to test over, faculty administration of class resources was minimal, and students did not have access to enterprise level systems. The solution was to implement a lab environment to accomplish all of these concerns. This project closely mirrors how a real world project would function using the knowledge acquired during coursework completed at DSU. Documentation submitted for coursework at DSU was used as templates during this project. Not only was this project designed to outline how a project would be completed but also includes deliverables of analyzing virtualization solutions for a lab environment, an architectural diagram of the proposed virtualized lab environment, purchasing a solution, and finally implementing the proposed solution. The project deliverable entitled “Virtualized Educational Lab Setup Top Solutions and Recommendation” includes a comparison of several solutions for the proposed lab. Included in this documentation is the proposed architectural diagram which outlines how the lab should be setup. The project deliverable entitled “Virtualized Educational Lab Setup Implementation” outlines the systems used within the lab. This includes documentation of both hardware and software being used. Specific identifying information about some systems has been excluded to protect the integrity of the environment; however, revised information will be distributed to internal faculty and staff at UNOH so it can be maintained and managed

    Get PDF
Currently, local area network (LAN) is commonplace in the Nigerian tertiary institutions and can be a good platform for distributing and disseminating instructional materials. Thus, this paper proposes to improve the quality of academics through online provision of learning resources based on Free and Open Source Software (FOSS); wired and wireless access to contents; and availability of the system 24/7. The system is based on third party software or FOSS called phpBB and Windows 2003 Server Active Directory Services. Both are installed and configured on an intranet. It has a discussion forum which is accessed through Hypertext Transfer Protocol using a web browser; and directory services for files/folders upload and download based on a set of privilege levels in Discretionary Access Control List (DACL) as a way of improving security. The system leads to the development of a virtual campus in Covenant University. Also, it has helped improve the quality of teaching by making lecture notes availably on the intranet, lecturer/student interaction, accessibility to teaching materials and reduce student’s idle time. The system helps in no small measure to correct the problems plaguing the educational sector such as examination malpractice, decline standards of education and cultism, as students are gainfully engaged in academic and social activities. The creation of a virtual campus would enhance the level of e-participation, and e-readiness of the graduate for the employment market. In particular, it bridges the divide between the developed and the developing nations

The purpose of this executive summary is to give a complete view ofmy developed project, which is the Web-based Practical Exam Monitoring System (WPEMS). I developed the project for the purpose to complete my Final Year Project 1 and Final Year project 2 requisite. Thus, WPEMS is created throughout the time period. Throughout the entire period oftime, I have been exposed to a lot ofnew things ranging from various technological knowledge's, especially in manage and exploit some ofthe Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) functions available in Microsoft XP or Microsoft Windows 2003. I undergo my Final Year Project 1 and 2 under the supervision of Mr. Hilmi Hasan, an ICT lecturer in Universiti Teknologi Petronas. Being a student under his supervision requires me to constantly work perfectly in order to ensure the success ofmy developed project, which is the WPEMS application. WPEMS is a totally new system, where no one else in UTP has created it before, and thus it is unique in its own way. Generally, it is a web-based monitoring application for practical examination in the lab. Practical examination here is such programming examinations or tests, where students need to hard coded their own program in the lab, and thus the needs to constantly ensure the integrity ofthe examination is crucial. This is due to the availability ofthe Internet which can be used by students to cheat in the examination, because they can simply search for the examination answer or tips at the Internet during their practical examination time. WPEMS can solve that problem, by automatically monitormg^he running examination, and any cheating attempt by students will be automatically logged, ^hs can reduce number ofpersonnel usage, and also minimize the efforts ofthe lecturets to constantly walking all around the lab to make sure nobody is cheating
