    A Monitoring System for the BaBar INFN Computing Cluster

    Monitoring large clusters is a challenging problem. It is necessary to observe a large quantity of devices with a reasonably short delay between consecutive observations. The set of monitored devices may include PCs, network switches, tape libraries and other equipments. The monitoring activity should not impact the performances of the system. In this paper we present PerfMC, a monitoring system for large clusters. PerfMC is driven by an XML configuration file, and uses the Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) for data collection. SNMP is a standard protocol implemented by many networked equipments, so the tool can be used to monitor a wide range of devices. System administrators can display informations on the status of each device by connecting to a WEB server embedded in PerfMC. The WEB server can produce graphs showing the value of different monitored quantities as a function of time; it can also produce arbitrary XML pages by applying XSL Transformations to an internal XML representation of the cluster's status. XSL Transformations may be used to produce HTML pages which can be displayed by ordinary WEB browsers. PerfMC aims at being relatively easy to configure and operate, and highly efficient.     This paper presents the power flow or load flow analysis of Ranau microgrid, a standalone microgrid in the district of Ranau,West Coast Division of Sabah. Power flow for IEEE 9 bus also performed and analyzed. Power flow is define as an important tool involving numerical analysis applied to power system. Power flow uses simplified notation such as one line diagram and per-unit system focusing on voltages, voltage angles, real power and reactive power. To achieved that purpose, this research is done by analyzing the power flow analysis and calculation of all the elements in the microgrid such as generators, buses, loads, transformers, transmission lines using the Power Factory DIGSilent 14 software to calculate the power flow.     Kajian kes ini dibuat adalah bertujuan untuk meninjau sama ada terdapat ciriciri pra-keusahawanan di kaiangan pelajar tahun akhir Sarjana Muda Kejuruteraan Awam KUiTTHO terhadap bidang keusahawanan sebagai satu kerjaya. Populasi kajian ini ialah 101 orang dan sampel kajian ialah seramai 80 orang yang terdiri daripada pelbagai kaum dan bangsa. Dapatan kajian yang diperolehi menunjukkan terdapat ciri-ciri pra-keusahawanan dan kecenderungan pelajar terhadap bidang keusahawanan. Hasil kajian menunjukkan pelajar cenderung untuk melibatkan diri dalam bidang keusahawanan kerana beberapa faktor seperti minat sejak daripada kecil, dorongan daripada ibubapa dan kawan, mewarisi perniagaan keluarga, bebas menguruskan perniagaan dan mengemukakan idea, tidak suka kerjaya makan gaji dan terikat dengan peraturan pejabat, serta pendapatan di bidang ini adalah lebih lumayan. Pada keseluruhannya boleh dikatakan pelajar-pelajar telah memahami budaya keusahawanan dan mempunyai ciri-ciri keusahawanan. Justeru itu pendidikan keusahawanan adalah sangat penting bagi memenuhi hasrat kerajaan untuk melahirkan tenaga keija yang berkebolehan dan berkemahiran dalam dunia perniagaan dan keusahawanan

    Kajian ini beijudul Model Kognitif Visual Pelajar Teknikal Melalui Perisian Animasi Grafik. Kajian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji keupayaan visual dan gaya kognitif pelajar kejuruteraan terhadap prestasi pencapaian pembelajaran dalam mata pelajaran Teknologi Elektrik 1 khusus dalam topik Penjanaan melalui koswer animasi grafik. Reka bentuk kajian adalah berdasarkan kuasi eksperimental melibatkan reka bentuk ujian pra-pasca. Kajian ini memfokuskan kepada mengenal pasti perbezaan dan kesan antara prestasi pencapaian pembelajaran kumpulan pelajar yang mengikuti pembelajaran secara konvensional (kumpulan kawalan) dengan pelajar yang menggunakan perisian multimedia animasi grafik (kumpulan rawatan) berdasarkan tahap Kognitif Visual dari aspek Persepsi Visual, Memori Visual dan Visualisasi. Seramai 63 orang responden terlibat dalam kajian ini terdiri daripada pelajar yang mengikuti kursus Diploma Kejuruteraan Elektrik di Politeknik Merlimau, Melaka. Untuk mendapatkan data instrumen yang terlibat adalah set soalan ujian persepsi, ujian memori, ujian SVAT, ujian pra dan ujian pasca, borang soal selidik dan soalan temu bual. Ujian deskriptif melalui taburan frekuensi menunjukkan data kajian bertaburan secara normal maka ujian parametrik dilakukan. Analisis data menghitung min dan sisihan piawai sebagai asas pengiraan manakala inferensi hipotesis menggunakan prosedur Ujian-t dan Ujian Regresi Pelbagai. Dapatan kajian menunjukkan Hipotesis null yang ditetapkan pada aras signifikan 0.05 ditolak. Maka kajian ini dirumuskan wujud perbezaan yang signifikan secara statistik prestasi pencapaian pembelajaran berdasarkan tahap Kognitif Visual dari aspek Persepsi Visual, Memori Visual dan Visualisasi. Selain itu,wujud kesan yang signifikan pada tahap yang sederhana secara statistik dalam pendekatan ujian pencapaian dengan gabungan pelajar Persepsi Visual, Memori Visual dan Visualisasi (r = .686, p < 0.05)

    Para pendidik sedar akan kewujudan perbezaan individu dikalangan para pelajar. Dalam proses pengajaran dan pembelajaran sebenar, kita dapati bahawa pelajar biasanya terikat pada turutan pengajaran dan bahan-bahan pembelajaran yang sama. Salah satu cara digunakan untuk menangani masalah ini ialah mengindividukan pengajaran dengan menggunakan modul pengajaran kendiri (MPK). Kajian ini memperkenalkan penggunaan MPK sebagai alat bahan bantu mengajar yang berkesan dalam proses pengajaran dan pembelajaran bagi mata pelajaran Keusahawanan iaitu topik prosedur penubuhan Syarikat Awam Berhad. Responden terdiri daripada 36 orang pelajar semester enam, Diploma Akauntansi di POLIMAS. Objektif kajian adalah menghasilkan MPK yang dapat meningkatkan pemahaman pelajar serta mengenalpasti kebolehlaksanaannya daripada aspek pemahaman, isi kandungan, sifat mesra pengguna dan aktiviti pembelajarannya. Selain itu, mengenalpasti sama ada terdapat perbezaan pencapaian pelajar sebelum dan selepas menggunakan MPK tersebut. Satu kajian eksperimental telah dijalankan. Set soalan pra-ujian, pos-ujian dan set soal selidik merupakan instrumen yang telah digunakan di dalam kajian ini. Hasil dapatan kajian menunjukkan respon responden adalah positif atau setuju terhadap kebolehlaksanaan MPK tersebut. Prestasi pencapaian pelajar telah meningkatkan selepas menggunakan MPK tersebut. Ini terbukti, apabila pos-ujian dijalankan menunjukkan peningkatan berbanding pra-ujian. Analisis Ujian T juga mendapati wujud perbezaan yang signifikan antara min markah pra-ujian dengan pos-ujian. Ini membuktikan bahawa MPK yang dihasilkan adalah sesuai digunakan sebagai bahan pengajaran dan pembelajaran masa kini

    Automatic Configuration For Remote Diagnosis And Monitoring Of Railway Equipments

    Today, there is no standard system for performing maintenance on heterogeneous railway equipments. Maintenance staff needs a standard application capable of diagnosing and monitoring heterogeneous on-board equipments. We propose to build a web-based diagnosis and monitoring system. The main advantage of our approach is that it offers a well known and user friendly interface: a web browser (such as Netscape Navigator or Microsoft Internet Explorer). In addition, it gives the possibility for remote diagnosis and monitoring railway equipments. Thus experts, not necessarily on site in the depot, can make diagnosis and detect faulty components. They can inspect, more than one vehicle at a time, directly from their office. The on-board communication system and related network management services provide a unified entry point to the train data for diagnosis. We have built an automatic configuration approach for such a maintenance system. As a result, this maintenance system can be installed on any vehicle without previous device-specific knowledge about that vehicle.     WSN and RFID integration to support intelligent monitoring in smart buildings using hybrid intelligent decision support systems

    The real time monitoring of environment context aware activities is becoming a standard in the service delivery in a wide range of domains (child and elderly care and supervision, logistics, circulation, and other). The safety of people, goods and premises depends on the prompt reaction to potential hazards identified at an early stage to engage appropriate control actions. This requires capturing real time data to process locally at the device level or communicate to backend systems for real time decision making. This research examines the wireless sensor network and radio frequency identification technology integration in smart homes to support advanced safety systems deployed upstream to safety and emergency response. These systems are based on the use of hybrid intelligent decision support systems configured in a multi-distributed architecture enabled by the wireless communication of detection and tracking data to support intelligent real-time monitoring in smart buildings. This paper introduces first the concept of wireless sensor network and radio frequency identification technology integration showing the various options for the task distribution between radio frequency identification and hybrid intelligent decision support systems. This integration is then illustrated in a multi-distributed system architecture to identify motion and control access in a smart building using a room capacity model for occupancy and evacuation, access rights and a navigation map automatically generated by the system.
