Architecture for Cooperative Prefetching in P2P Video-on- Demand System
Most P2P VoD schemes focused on service architectures and overlays
optimization without considering segments rarity and the performance of
prefetching strategies. As a result, they cannot better support VCRoriented
service in heterogeneous environment having clients using free VCR controls.
Despite the remarkable popularity in VoD systems, there exist no prior work
that studies the performance gap between different prefetching strategies. In
this paper, we analyze and understand the performance of different prefetching
strategies. Our analytical characterization brings us not only a better
understanding of several fundamental tradeoffs in prefetching strategies, but
also important insights on the design of P2P VoD system. On the basis of this
analysis, we finally proposed a cooperative prefetching strategy called
"cooching". In this strategy, the requested segments in VCR interactivities are
prefetched into session beforehand using the information collected through
gossips. We evaluate our strategy through extensive simulations. The results
indicate that the proposed strategy outperforms the existing prefetching

A Literature Survey of Cooperative Caching in Content Distribution Networks
Content distribution networks (CDNs) which serve to deliver web objects
(e.g., documents, applications, music and video, etc.) have seen tremendous
growth since its emergence. To minimize the retrieving delay experienced by a
user with a request for a web object, caching strategies are often applied -
contents are replicated at edges of the network which is closer to the user
such that the network distance between the user and the object is reduced. In
this literature survey, evolution of caching is studied. A recent research
paper [15] in the field of large-scale caching for CDN was chosen to be the
anchor paper which serves as a guide to the topic. Research studies after and
relevant to the anchor paper are also analyzed to better evaluate the
statements and results of the anchor paper and more importantly, to obtain an

Mobile-Based Video Caching Architecture Based on Billboard Manager
Video streaming services are very popular today. Increasingly, users can now
access multimedia applications and video playback wirelessly on their mobile
devices. However, a significant challenge remains in ensuring smooth and
uninterrupted transmission of almost any size of video file over a 3G network,
and as quickly as possible in order to optimize bandwidth consumption. In this
paper, we propose to position our Billboard Manager to provide an optimal
transmission rate to enable smooth video playback to a mobile device user
connected to a 3G network. Our work focuses on serving user requests by mobile
operators from cached resource managed by Billboard Manager, and transmitting
the video files from this pool. The aim is to reduce the load placed on
bandwidth resources of a mobile operator by routing away as much user requests
away from the internet for having to search a video and, subsequently, if

ISP-friendly Peer-assisted On-demand Streaming of Long Duration Content in BBC iPlayer
In search of scalable solutions, CDNs are exploring P2P support. However, the
benefits of peer assistance can be limited by various obstacle factors such as
ISP friendliness - requiring peers to be within the same ISP, bitrate
stratification - the need to match peers with others needing similar bitrate,
and partial participation - some peers choosing not to redistribute content.
This work relates potential gains from peer assistance to the average number
of users in a swarm, its capacity, and empirically studies the effects of these
obstacle factors at scale, using a month-long trace of over 2 million users in
London accessing BBC shows online. Results indicate that even when P2P swarms
are localised within ISPs, up to 88% of traffic can be saved. Surprisingly,
bitrate stratification results in 2 large sub-swarms and does not significantly
affect savings. However, partial participation, and the need for a minimum
swarm size do affect gains. We investigate improvements to gain from increasing
content availability through two well-studied techniques: content bundling -
combining multiple items to increase availability, and historical caching of
previously watched items. Bundling proves ineffective as increased server
traffic from larger bundles outweighs benefits of availability, but simple

However, scaling systems to accommodate the growing number of users and content items poses a challenge. This research aims to optimize video content downloading in peer-to-peer systems. The objective is to improve performance by developing advanced caching mechanisms, an intelligent data distribution algorithm, and efficient bandwidth resource management. The proposed approach involves implementing innovative caching mechanisms that store frequently accessed content closer to users, reducing download time. An intelligent data distribution algorithm minimizes bottlenecks and maximizes download speeds. Efficient bandwidth resource management ensures fair allocation. Results demonstrate significant enhancements in download time and overall system performance, leading to improved user experience. This research addresses the need for an optimized video content downloading system to handle increasing user and content volumes. The findings hold the potential to enhance user experiences, facilitate seamless video sharing, and advance peer-to-peer video content downloading
