Managing time attendance of staff in organizations has proven to be a challenging endeavor. Manual methods have been proposed in capturing employees’ attendance but there are inadequacies in measuring the performance of employees. This paper aims at promoting staff efficiency at work by developing a secure attendance management system for use in tertiary institutions via two subsystems; Fingerprint biometrics as a method of identification and authentication and Question-Answering module for staff performance rating. The system uses staff fingerprints stored in the database upon registration for carrying out the process of attendance and validate staff lectures’ requirements. It is accentuated by creating a question-answering module that allows students to answer some questions on each available and registered staff, hence, giving a more concentrated content about staff’s activities within the school. The evaluation was carried out based on the matching efficiency and attendance accuracy of the proposed system. The proposed system performed excellently with 98.51% attendance accuracy based on the high successful staff identification recorded. Hence, staff performance rating was generated, thereby creating an avenue for determining promotion grounds

Institutions, companies and organisations where security and net productivity is vital, access to certain areas must be controlled and monitored through an automated system of attendance. Managing people is a difficult task for most of the organizations and maintaining the attendance record is an important factor in people management. When considering the academic institute, taking the attendance of non-academic staff on daily basis and maintaining the records is a major task. Manually taking attendance and maintaining it for a long time adds to the difficulty of this task as well as wastes a lot of time. For this reason, an efficient system is proposed in this paper to solve the problem of manual attendance. This system takes attendance electronically with the help of a fingerprint recognition system, and all the records are saved for subsequent operations. Staff biometric attendance system employs an automated system to calculate attendance of staff in an organization and do further calculations of monthly attendance summary in order to reduce human errors during calculations. In essence, the proposed system can be employed in curbing the problems of lateness, buddy punching and truancy in any institution, organization or establishment. The proposed system will also improve the productivity of any organization if properly implemented. Keywords: Institution, Attendance, Biometric, Fingerprin

Attendance System Using Face Recognition and Class Monitoring System

In this paper, we propose a system that takes the attendance of students in the lecture. This system takes the attendance automatically using face recognition. However, it is difficult to estimate the attendance exactly using each result of face recognition independently because the face detection rate is not sufficiently high. In our paper, we propose a method for estimating the attendance exactly using all the results of face recognition obtained by continuous observation. Continuous observation improves the performance for the estimation of the attendance. We constructed the attendance system based on face recognition, and applied the system to classroom lecture. In our system, we are using raspberry pi. we use OpenCv library which is installed in pi for face detection and recognition. The camera is connected to raspberry pi and student database is stored in the pi. With the help of this system time will reduce and attendance will be marked. In this paper first review similar works in the field of attendance system and recognition of face. Then, it showing our system structure and plan. At the last, experiments are implemented to provide as manifest to support our plan. The result shows that uninterrupted observation improved the performance for the approximation of the attendance

In this paper, the development of an Automatic College Attendance Management System (ACAMS), a biometric based comprehensive attendance management system is proposed. Complexity in managing the students\u27 attendance during lecture hours, computing the percentage of attendance and conveying the presence/absence of students to their Parent/Guardian have become a difficult challenge and also a time consuming task. For the stated reasons, ACAMS using fingerprint biometrics is designed with an added feature of sending SMS alerts to their Parent/Guardian, for which in this system PHP and CGI scripts and the web site using Lighthttpd server for sharing a common database of SQLite have been introduced. This system takes attendance electronically with the help of a finger print device and the records of the attendance are stored in a database. After student’s identification, attendance is marked and a message is sent to his/her Parent/ Guardian, and hence our system becomes a self monitoring intelligent ACAMS. Moreover, our system eliminates the need for stationary materials and personnel for the keeping of records

Attendance Management System for Industrial Worker using Finger Print Scanner

Attendance management is the act of managing attendance or presence in a work setting, which maximizes and motivates employee attendance thereby minimizing loss. Not only does it affect productivity, it can cost the company profits or even additional contracts. For the industrial sector attendance management system can develop alacrity among the workers to work regularly and also help them to motivate their co- worker to attend work regularly. Fingerprints are considered to be the best and fastest method for biometric identification. They are secure to use, unique for every person and do not change in one's lifetime. Fingerprint recognition is a mature field to-day, but still identifying individual from a set of enrolled fingerprints is a time taking process. This paper illustrates improvement of attendance management system based on fingerprint identification for implementation on large databases e.g. of an industry or a garments factory etc. In this project, many new algorithms have been used e.g. gender estimation, key based one to many matching, removing boundary minutiae. Using these new algorithms a new attendance management system has been developed which is faster and cheaper in implementation than any other available today in the market

An experimental study on the deformation behaviour and fracture mode of recycled aluminium alloy AA6061-reinforced alumina oxide undergoing high-velocity impact

The anisotropic behaviour and the damage evolution of recycled aluminium alloy-reinforced alumina oxide are investigated in this paper using Taylor impact test. The test is performed at various impact velocity ranging from 190 to 360 m/s by firing a cylindrical projectile towards anvil target. The deformation behaviour and the fracture modes are analysed using the digitized footprint of the deformed specimens. The damage initiation and the progression are observed around the impact surface and the surface 0.5 cm from the impact area using the scanning electron microscope. The deformed specimens showed several ductile fracture modes of mushrooming, tensile splitting and petalling. The critical impact velocity is defined below 280 m/s. The specimens showed a strong strain-rate dependency due to the damage evolution that is driven by severe localized plastic-strain deformation. The scanning electron microscope analysis showed the damage mechanism progress via voids initiation, growth and coalescence in the material. The micrograph within the footprint surface shows the presence of alumina oxide particles within the specimen. The microstructure analysis shows a significant refinement of the specimen particle at the surface located 0.5 cm above the impact area. ImageJ software is adopted in this work to measure the average size of voids within this surface. Non-symmetrical (ellipse-shaped) footprint around the footprints showed plastic anisotropic behaviour. The results in this paper provide a better understanding of the deformation behaviour of recycled materials subjected to dynamic loading. This information on mechanical response is crucial before any potential application can be established to substitute the primary sources

Direct storage of biometric templates in databases exposes the authentication system and legitimate users to numerous security and privacy challenges. Biometric cryptosystems or template protection schemes are used to overcome the security and privacy challenges associated with the use of biometrics as a means of authentication. This paper presents a review of previous works in biometric key binding and key generation schemes. The review focuses on key binding techniques such as biometric encryption, fuzzy commitment scheme, fuzzy vault and shielding function. Two categories of key generation schemes considered are private template and quantization schemes. The paper also discusses the modes of operations, strengths and weaknesses of various kinds of key-based template protection schemes. The goal is to provide the reader with a clear understanding of the current and emerging trends in key-based biometric cryptosystems
