(I) A Declarative Framework for ERP Systems(II) Reactors: A Data-Driven Programming Model for Distributed Applications
To those who can be swayed by argument and those who know they do not have all the answers This dissertation is a collection of six adapted research papers pertaining to two areas of research. (I) A Declarative Framework for ERP Systems: âą POETS: Process-Oriented Event-driven Transaction Systems. The paper describes an ontological analysis of a small segment of the enterprise domain, namely the general ledger and accounts receivable. The result is an event-based approach to designing ERP systems and an abstract-level sketch of the architecture. âą Compositional Specification of Commercial Contracts. The paper de-scribes the design, multiple semantics, and use of a domain-specific lan-guage (DSL) for modeling commercial contracts. âą SMAWL: A SMAll Workflow Language Based on CCS. The paper show

Novel processes for smart grid information exchange and knowledge representation using the IEC common information model
This thesis was submitted for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy and awarded by Brunel University. The IEC Common Information Model (CIM) is of central importance in enabling smart grid interoperability. Its continual development aims to meet the needs of the smart grid for semantic understanding and knowledge
representation for a widening domain of resources and processes. With smart grid evolution the importance of information and data management has become an increasingly pressing issue not only because far more data is being generated using modern sensing, control and measuring devices but
also because information is now becoming recognised as the âintegral componentâ that facilitates the optimal flexibility required of the smart grid. This thesis looks at the impacts of CIM implementation upon the landscape of smart grid issues and presents research from within National Grid
contributing to three key areas in support of further CIM deployment. Taking the issue of Enterprise Information Management first, an information management framework is presented for CIM deployment at National Grid. Following this the development and demonstration of a novel secure cloud
computing platform to handle such information is described. Power system application (PSA) models of the grid are partial knowledge representations of a shared reality. To develop the completeness of our understanding of this reality it is necessary to combine these representations.
The second research contribution reports on a novel methodology for a CIM-based
model repository to align PSA representations and provide a
knowledge resource for building utility business intelligence of the grid.
The third contribution addresses the need for greater integration of information relating to energy storage, an essential aspect of smart energy management. It presents the strategic rationale for integrated energy modeling and a novel extension to the existing CIM standards for modeling grid-scale energy storage. Significantly, this work has already contributed to a larger body of work on modeling Distributed Energy Resources currently under development at the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) in the

New Trends in the Use of Artificial Intelligence for the Industry 4.0
Industry 4.0 is based on the cyber-physical transformation of processes, systems and methods applied in the manufacturing sector, and on its autonomous and decentralized operation. Industry 4.0 reflects that the industrial world is at the beginning of the so-called Fourth Industrial Revolution, characterized by a massive interconnection of assets and the integration of human operators with the manufacturing environment. In this regard, data analytics and, specifically, the artificial intelligence is the vehicular technology towards the next generation of smart factories.Chapters in this book cover a diversity of current and new developments in the use of artificial intelligence on the industrial sector seen from the fourth industrial revolution point of view, namely, cyber-physical applications, artificial intelligence technologies and tools, Industrial Internet of Things and data analytics. This book contains high-quality chapters containing original research results and literature review of exceptional merit. Thus, it is in the aim of the book to contribute to the literature of the topic in this regard and let the readers know current and new trends in the use of artificial intelligence for the Industry 4.0
Operations Management
Global competition has caused fundamental changes in the competitive environment of the manufacturing and service industries. Firms should develop strategic objectives that, upon achievement, result in a competitive advantage in the market place. The forces of globalization on one hand and rapidly growing marketing opportunities overseas, especially in emerging economies on the other, have led to the expansion of operations on a global scale. The book aims to cover the main topics characterizing operations management including both strategic issues and practical applications. A global environmental business including both manufacturing and services is analyzed. The book contains original research and application chapters from different perspectives. It is enriched through the analyses of case studies
Transformation Potential of Cloud Computing - Understanding Strategic Value Creation from Customer and Vendor Perspectives.
While Cloud Computing is evolving as a major information technology phenomenon by redefining how IT capabilities are generated and consumed, the business value of this emerging model of IT capabilities delivery is anecdotal. Limited empirical research exists to my knowledge on what and how business value is created from these technologies. My dissertation devises three empirical studies to systematically investigate the business value of cloud computing technologies from the customer and vendor perspectives. In particular, I examine the transformation potential of these technologies in delivering strategic benefits that transcend beyond mere cost advantages often cited in practitioner literature. From the customer perspective, I investigate the strategic benefits these technologies create towards organizational and individual role effectiveness. In one study, I examine at the organizational level if adopting these technologies can be associated with the IT-enabled business innovation of the firms. At the individual role level investigated in another study, I examine the association between cloud computing adoption and the involvement of Chief Information Officers in strategic opportunities related to innovation and new product development. From the vendor perspective, I examine in my third study, the implications of cloud computing architectures for the vendor organizations. I attempt to understand what changes in the technical and organizational functions are needed in the vendor organizations to reorient themselves to create the expected business value and succeed in the cloud computing market. Through these three empirical studies, my dissertation is a systematic attempt to shed light on the strategic business benefits of cloud computing and the enablers of value creation in the cloud-based technology model.PhDBusiness AdministrationUniversity of Michigan, Horace H. Identification and design of the processes of the Computer Laboratory, Technological Faculty of the Francisco José de Caldas District University using the standard notation for modeling processes (BPMN)
The degree project "Identification and Design of the Processes of the Computer Laboratory, Technological Faculty of the Francisco JosĂ© De Caldas District University using the Standard Notation for Modeling Processes (BPMN)" aims to obtain detailed knowledge of the operation of the laboratory and document appropriately the information obtained, to facilitate the organization of the implementation of a process-based management. The methodological proposal is characterized by a Button UP approach, where first a survey is made of the information based on the existing records and evidence, then an achievement of the main formats established by the SIGUD is made, to comply with the guidelines and institutional policies established by the University in its 2018-2030 development plan. In the modeling, a clear and detailed description of the operation of the activities, procedures, formats, guides and instructions of the Computer Laboratory is made in order to have a complete diagram that is easy to understand for all interested parties, due to its simplicity, effectiveness and ease of reading, higher performance in processes
