On-line planning and scheduling: an application to controlling modular printers
We present a case study of artificial intelligence techniques applied to the control of production printing equipment. Like many other real-world applications, this complex domain requires high-speed autonomous decision-making and robust continual operation. To our knowledge, this work represents the first successful industrial application of embedded domain-independent temporal planning. Our system handles execution failures and multi-objective preferences. At its heart is an on-line algorithm that combines techniques from state-space planning and partial-order scheduling. We suggest that this general architecture may prove useful in other applications as more intelligent systems operate in continual, on-line settings. Our system has been used to drive several commercial prototypes and has enabled a new product architecture for our industrial partner. When compared with state-of-the-art off-line planners, our system is hundreds of times faster and often finds better plans. Our experience demonstrates that domain-independent AI planning based on heuristic search can flexibly handle time, resources, replanning, and multiple objectives in a high-speed practical application without requiring hand-coded control knowledge
How Digital Transformation affects Enterprise Architecture Management – a case study
Internet of Things (IoT), machine learning, cyber-physical systems and other recent technological innovations offer new opportunities for enterprises in the context of Digital Transformation (DT) but also cause new challenges for Enterprise Architecture Management (EAM), which traditionally deals with enterprise-IT planning and coordination. Based on an industrial case of a power garden products manufacturer that is exploring potentials and facing challenges in DT, this article investigates the integration of product-IT into EAM. Product-IT includes the embedded IT-systems in physical products and services, components for operations, maintenance or evaluation purposes. In this article we discuss product-IT and enterprise-IT integration in the context of EAM observed in the industrial practice. The main contributions are (1) positioning of the product-IT in the field of EAM, and (2) identification of the challenges from real-world case regarding integration of product-IT into EAM
Simulating use cases for the UAH autonomous electric car

the UAH Autonomous Electric Car, related with typical driving
scenarios in urban environments, focusing on the use of hierarchical interpreted binary Petri nets in order to implement the
decision making framework of an autonomous electric vehicle.
First, we describe our proposal of autonomous system architecture, which is based on the open source Robot Operating
System (ROS) framework that allows the fusion of multiple
sensors and the real-time processing and communication of
multiple processes in different embedded processors. Then, the
paper focuses on the study of some of the most interesting
driving scenarios such as: stop, pedestrian crossing, Adaptive
Cruise Control (ACC) and overtaking, illustrating both the
executive module that carries out each behaviour based on
Petri nets and the trajectory and linear velocity that allows
to quantify the accuracy and robustness of the architecture
proposal for environment perception, navigation and planning

Correlating Architecture Maturity and Enterprise Systems Usage Maturity to Improve Business/IT Alignment
This paper compares concepts of maturity models in the areas of Enterprise Architecture and Enterprise Systems Usage. We investigate whether these concepts correlate, overlap and explain each other. The two maturity models are applied in a case study. We conclude that although it is possible to fully relate constructs from both kinds of models, having a mature architecture function in a company does not imply a high Enterprise Systems Usage maturity
