Impact Evaluation of Interoperability Decision Variables on P2P Collaboration Performances
This article deals with the impact evaluation of interoperability decision variables on performance indicators of business processes. The case of partner companies is studied to show the interest of an Interoperability Service Utility (ISU) on business processes in a peer to peer (P2P) collaboration. Information described in the format and the ontology of a broadcasting entity is transformed by ISU into information with the format and the ontology of the receiving entity depending on the available resources of interoperation. These resources can be human operators with defined skill level or software modules of transformation in predefined languages. A design methodology of a global simulation model for estimating the impact of interoperability decision variables on performance indicators of business processes is proposed. Its implementation in an industrial case of collaboration shows its efficiency and its interest to motivate an investment in the technologies of enterprise interoperability
Secure data sharing and processing in heterogeneous clouds
The extensive cloud adoption among the European Public Sector Players empowered them to own and operate a range of cloud infrastructures. These deployments vary both in the size and capabilities, as well as in the range of employed technologies and processes. The public sector, however, lacks the necessary technology to enable effective, interoperable and secure integration of a multitude of its computing clouds and services. In this work we focus on the federation of private clouds and the approaches that enable secure data sharing and processing among the collaborating infrastructures and services of public entities. We investigate the aspects of access control, data and security policy languages, as well as cryptographic approaches that enable fine-grained security and data processing in semi-trusted environments. We identify the main challenges and frame the future work that serve as an enabler of interoperability among heterogeneous infrastructures and services. Our goal is to enable both security and legal conformance as well as to facilitate transparency, privacy and effectivity of private cloud federations for the public sector needs. © 2015 The Authors
Mobility through Heterogeneous Networks in a 4G Environment
Serving and Managing users in a heterogeneous environment. 17th WWRF Meeting in Heidelberg, Germany, 15 - 17 November 2006. [Proceeding presented at WG3 - Co-operative and Ad-hoc Networks]The increase will of ubiquitous access of the users to the requested services points towards the integration of heterogeneous networks. In this sense, a user shall be able to access its services through different access technologies, such as WLAN, Wimax, UMTS and DVB technologies, from the same or different network operators, and to seamless move between different networks with active communications. In this paper we propose a mobility architecture able to support this users’ ubiquitous access and seamless movement, while simultaneously bringing a large flexibility to access network operators

Issues using COTS simulation software packages for the interoperation of models
This paper intends to examine the interoperation of simulation models from the viewpoint of a simulation engineer who uses standard tools and methods to create these models. The paper will look at the models in the context of COTS (commercially available off-the shelf) simulation packages with a view to applying distributed simulation (DS) theory to the subject. By studying current methods employed which enable COTS simulation packages to interoperate, this paper will discuss the tools currently used and examine their appropriateness. The paper will also suggest how an example COTS simulation package could be modified to provide the necessary functions and interoperability required to allow full distributed simulation
Workflow level interoperation of grid data resources
The lack of widely accepted standards and the use of different middleware solutions divide today’s Grid resources into non-interoperable production Grid islands. On the other hand, more and more experiments require such a large number of resources that the interoperation of existing production Grids becomes inevitable. This paper, based on the current results of grid interoperation studies, defines generic requirements towards the workflow level interoperation of grid solutions. It concentrates on intra-workflow interoperation of grid data resources, as one of the key areas of generic interoperation, and describes through an example how existing tools can be extended to achieve the required level of interoperation
Enabling Distributed Knowledge Management: Managerial and Technological Implications
In this paper we show that the typical architecture of current KM systems re.ects an objectivistic epistemology and a traditional managerial control paradigm. We argue that such an objectivistic epistemology is inconsistent with many theories on the nature of knowledge, in which subjectivity and sociality are taken as essential features of knowledge creation and sharing. We show that adopting such a new epistemological view has dramatic consequences at an architectural, managerial and technological level
Knowledge web: realising the semantic web... all the way to knowledge-enhanced multimedia documents
The semantic web and semantic web services are major efforts in order to spread and to integrate knowledge technology to the whole web. The Knowledge Web network of excellence aims at supporting their developments at the best and largest European level and supporting industry in adopting them. It especially investigates the solution of scalability, heterogeneity and dynamics obstacles to the full development of the semantic web. We explain how Knowledge Web results should benefit knowledge-enhanced multimedia applications
Data mediation to message level conflict in heterogeneous web services
Enterprise Information Systems
(EISs) are built in isolated and
independent environments leading to
unpredictable and incompatible structure
of data stores. An EI system can expose its
functionalities as Web services to share
resources of existing global internet
infrastructure. The goal of this research
paper is to facilitate inter-operation
between Web services. Successful and
reliable information (message) exchange
between Web services is necessary to meet
the current challenge of Enterprise
Information Integration (EII). A real-\ud
world business process, which consists of
Web services WS1 and WS2, can be used
as a practical scenario for data or message
exchange between Web services. In this
scenario, message is exchanged by using
output of WS1 as input of WS2. If data
format of WS1 and WS2 are heterogeneous
or incompatible, interoperation between
them is impossible if data mediation is not
used to resolve message level conflict and
incompatibility in the context of syntax
and semantics. Data Mediation requires
mapping a message from one format to
another. We propose to derive a mediation
technique that will enable previously less
inter-operative heterogeneous Web
services to become more inter-operative
now. To improve inter-operational
performance between Web services our
data mediation approach extends and
utilizes existing Web service supporting
tools WSDL and SAWSDL. (Authors' abstract
