The art of bots: A practice-based study of the multiplicity, entanglements and figuration of sociocomputational assemblages
This thesis examines and analyses an emerging art practice known as artbots. Artbots are internet-based software applications that are imbued with character and configured to engage and entertain online audiences. This form of practice, and the community of practice leading it, was found to be underrepresented and misunderstood. I argue that this artform is original and warrants a more thorough understanding. This thesis develops a conceptual framework for understanding artbots that focuses on and enables questioning around pertinent aspects of the practice. A wide range of literature was reviewed to provide theoretical underpinnings towards this framework, including literature on algorithm studies, science and technology studies, and software architecture. The devised framework examines artbot case studies through the notions of multiplicity, entanglement, and figuration, having understood artbots as heterogenous sociocomputational assemblages comprised of software components and human intraactivity. The research followed a varied methodology that encompassed participant observation and my own practice-based experiments in producing artbots. The study resulted in several original works. In addition, a showcase titled Art of Bots brought together key proponents and artbots, further providing material that is analysed in this thesis. The study helped identify and discuss artbots with attention to how they utilise modular software components in novel arrangements, how normative human and nonhuman relations of interaction are being eschewed in favour of entangled interrelations, and how artbots challenge common narratives dictating technological constructs by inventing unique characters and figurations

In September 2019 Manchester School of Art at Manchester Metropolitan University was honoured to host the bi-annual conference of the International Association of Societies of Design Research (IASDR) under the unifying theme of DESIGN REVOLUTIONS. This was the first time the conference had been held in the UK. Through key research themes across nine conference tracks – Change, Learning, Living, Making, People, Technology, Thinking, Value and Voices – the conference opened up compelling, meaningful and radical dialogue of the role of design in addressing societal and organisational challenges. Semantic discovery and reuse of business process patterns
Patterns currently play an important role in modern information systems (IS) development and their use has mainly been restricted to the design and implementation phases of the development lifecycle. Given the increasing significance of business modelling in IS development, patterns have the potential of providing a viable solution for promoting reusability of recurrent generalized models in the very early stages of development. As a statement of research-in-progress this paper focuses on business process patterns and proposes an initial methodological framework for the discovery and reuse of business process patterns within the IS development lifecycle. The framework borrows ideas from the domain engineering literature and proposes the use of semantics to drive both the discovery of patterns as well as their reuse

Pages 529-542We provide a model for systematic implementation of telemedicine within a large evaluation center for COVID-19 in the area of Baja California, Mexico. Our model is based on human-centric design factors and cross disciplinary collaborations for scalable data-driven enablement of smartphone, cellular, and video Teleconsul-tation technologies to link hospitals, clinics, and emergency medical services for point-of-care assessments of COVID testing, and for subsequent treatment and quar-antine decisions. A multidisciplinary team was rapidly created, in cooperation with different institutions, including: the Autonomous University of Baja California, the Ministry of Health, the Command, Communication and Computer Control Center
of the Ministry of the State of Baja California (C4), Colleges of Medicine, and the College of Psychologists. Our objective is to provide information to the public and to evaluate COVID-19 in real time and to track, regional, municipal, and state-wide data in real time that informs supply chains and resource allocation with the anticipation of a surge in COVID-19 cases. Reviver Voce: The Voice, Technology, and Death
This is Reviver Voce. A deliberate verbal play on viva voce, the Latin term meaning, ‘By word of mouth; in speech; orally’ (OED 2020) Given the oral nature of this submission, it is understandably a pun that works better when spoken aloud, but this title has not simply been selected for wordplay or the direct reference to the oral defence of a doctoral thesis. Mladen Dolar, in his discussion of the political role of the voice, observes that the ‘viva voce, or just viva . . . has to be made “in the living voice”’ (2006: 110). It is this conception of “the living voice”—and its implied other, “the dead voice”—that sits at the core of this research: the work confronts the revivification of voices in recorded media, reassessing the relationship between technology, the voice, and death, and considering the ideological implications inherent within this emergent realm: the voice’s position within this act of revivification.
This research represents a study of the voice and its relationship to technological developments and death: what our voices mean to us, to others, and to death in this ever-changing space. For over a century the dead have “lived on” through audio, but with each advancement in sound recording and media storage we see new uses for the deceased and the bereaved. The voice, as a unique identifier of a person and their life, is entering new territory in a world of hypothetical digital immortality where it is possible to digitise an individual’s vocal characteristics.
As the spoken voice is central to this research, this thesis comprises of a collection of 33⅓ rpm, long-play records, primarily—but not entirely—voiced by the author. The introduction and subsequent chapters are presented on separate pressings, each side roughly 30 minutes in length. Practice, too, is submitted on this physical, audio-only medium. Through this research, it is suggested that developments in technology, a shift to everyday and pedestrian practices of recording, and our changing interactions with new media, leave the voice and death, and our relationship with the two, in fundamentally altered spaces

Mobilne komunikacije su polje informacione i komunikacione tehnologije koje karakteriše brzi
razvoj i u kome se istraživanjem u analitičkim okvirima kognitivne lingvistike, zasnovanom na
uzorku od 1005 odrednica, otkriva izrazito prisustvo metafore, metonimije, analogije i
pojmovnog objedinjavanja. Analiza uzorka reči i izraza iz oblasti mobilnih medija, mobilnih
operativnih sistema, dizajna korisničkih interfejsa, terminologije mobilnih mreža, kao i slenga
i tekstizama koje upotrebljavaju korisnici mobilnih naprava ukazuje da pomenuti kognitivni
mehanizmi imaju ključnu ulogu u olakšavanju interakcije između ljudi i širokog spektra
mobilnih uređaja sa računarskim sposobnostima, od prenosivih računara i ličnih digitalnih
asistenata (PDA), do mobilnih telefona, tableta i sprava koje se nose na telu. Ti mehanizmi
predstavljaju temelj razumevanja i nalaze se u osnovi principa funkcionisanja grafičkih
korisničkih interfejsa i direktne manipulacije u računarskim okruženjima. Takođe je analiziran
i poseban uzorak od 660 emotikona i emođija koji pokazuju potencijal za proširenje značenja,
imajući u vidu značaj piktograma za tekstualnu komunikaciju u vidu SMS poruka i razmenu
tekstualnih sadržaja na društvenim mrežama kojima se redovno pristupa putem mobilnih
uređaja...Mobile communications are a fast-developing field of information and communication
technology whose exploration within the analytical framework of cognitive linguistics, based
on a sample of 1005 entries, reveals the pervasive presence of metaphor, metonymy analogy
and conceptual integration. The analysis of the sample consisting of words and phrases
related to mobile media, mobile operating systems and interface design, the terminology of
mobile networking, as well as the slang and textisms employed by mobile gadget users shows
that the above cognitive mechanisms play a key role in facilitating interaction between people
and a wide range of mobile computing devices from laptops and PDAs to mobile phones,
tablets and wearables. They are the cornerstones of comprehension that are behind the
principles of functioning of graphical user interfaces and direct manipulation in computing
