    Telecommunications Network Planning and Maintenance

    Get PDF
Telecommunications network operators are on a constant challenge to provide new services which require ubiquitous broadband access. In an attempt to do so, they are faced with many problems such as the network coverage or providing the guaranteed Quality of Service (QoS). Network planning is a multi-objective optimization problem which involves clustering the area of interest by minimizing a cost function which includes relevant parameters, such as installation cost, distance between user and base station, supported traffic, quality of received signal, etc. On the other hand, service assurance deals with the disorders that occur in hardware or software of the managed network. This paper presents a large number of multicriteria techniques that have been developed to deal with different kinds of problems regarding network planning and service assurance. The state of the art presented will help the reader to develop a broader understanding of the problems in the domain

    ACS Searching for D4t-Hadamard Matrices

    Get PDF
An Ant Colony System (ACS) looking for cocyclic Hadamard matrices over dihedral groups D4t is described. The underlying weighted graph consists of the rooted trees described in [1], whose vertices are certain subsets of coboundaries. A branch of these trees defines a D4t- Hadamard matrix if and only if two conditions hold: (i) Ii = i − 1 and, (ii) ci = t, for every 2 ≀ i ≀ t, where Ii and ci denote the number of ipaths and i-intersections (see [3] for details) related to the coboundaries defining the branch. The pheromone and heuristic values of our ACS are defined in such a way that condition (i) is always satisfied, and condition (ii) is closely to be satisfied.Ministerio de Ciencia e InnovaciĂłn MTM2008-06578Junta de AndalucĂa FQM–296Junta de AndalucĂa P07-FQM-0298

QoS multicast tree construction in IP/DWDM optical internet by bio-inspired algorithms

Copyright @ Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved. In this paper, two bio-inspired Quality of Service (QoS) multicast algorithms are proposed in IP over dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) optical Internet. Given a QoS multicast request and the delay interval required by the application, both algorithms are able to find a flexible QoS-based cost suboptimal routing tree. They first construct the multicast trees based on ant colony optimization and artificial immune algorithm, respectively. Then a dedicated wavelength assignment algorithm is proposed to assign wavelengths to the trees aiming to minimize the delay of the wavelength conversion. In both algorithms, multicast routing and wavelength assignment are integrated into a single process. Therefore, they can find the multicast trees on which the least wavelength conversion delay is achieved. Load balance is also considered in both algorithms. Simulation results show that these two bio-inspired algorithms can construct high performance QoS routing trees for multicast applications in IP/DWDM optical Internet. This work was supported in part ny the Program for New Century Excellent Talents in University, the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) of UK under Grant EP/E060722/1, the National Natural Science Foundation of China under Grant no. 60673159 and 70671020, the National High-Tech Reasearch and Development Plan of China under Grant no. 2007AA041201, and the Specialized Research Fund for the Doctoral Program of Higher Education under Grant no. 20070145017

Image Restoration Based on Hybrid Ant Colony Algorithm

    Get PDF
Image restoration is the process to eliminate or reduce the image quality degradation in the digital image formation, transmission and recording and its purpose is to process the observed degraded image to make the restored result approximate the un-degraded original image. This paper, based on the basic ant colony algorithm and integrating with the genetic algorithm, proposes an image restoration processing method based on hybrid ant colony algorithm. This method transforms the optimal population information of genetic algorithm into the original pheromone concentration matrix of ant colony algorithm and uses it to compute the parameters of degradation function so as to get a precise estimate of the original image. By analyzing and comparing the restoration results, the method of this paper can not only overcome the influence of noises, but it can also make the image smoother with no fringe effects in the edges and excellent visual effects, verifying its practicability
