The offer of multimedia services has increased thanks to IP network communications and the new behaviour of costumers. Nowadays, TVs and IP streaming based devices can play High Definition (HD) video and 3D video. Multimedia streaming is used in several environments such as telemedical assistance, IP surveillance, military security, robotics, TV and cinema. In order to deliver multimedia services we need new tools and applications. Open source software and frameworks are one of the best options to deal with multimedia. Besides, open source philosophy takes advantage of its very economical development. This is an important reason for companies and users interested in multimedia services based in open source development, and has also several advantages from the academic and teaching point of view. In this thesis we describe and set up several streaming media services for SD, HD and 3D video delivery. We work with different video and audio codecs and stream them to any type of devices such computers or mobile phones. Gstreamer multimedia framework outstands as the most useful tool. Chapter one introduces the main concepts related with multimedia streaming, and describes the codecs, protocols and conventions that deal with multimedia. Chapter two is a description of the applications and frameworks we have worked with. Chapter three deals with multimedia services configuration and development. We work with webcams, DVB tuners, HD hardware encoders and 3D video sources and players. We stream audio and video to mobile devices, like Iphone and Android. Chapter four concludes the thesis and describes possible future developments in this field. It includes an economical study to compare open source services and professional solutions. The annexes are a set of laboratory tests describing how to deal with gstreamer and streaming services

This paper presents an adaptive, accurate and standard-compliant IDMS solution for hybrid broadcast and broadband delivery. Apart from providing multi- and cross-technology support, the presented IDMS solution is able to accomplish synchronization when different formats/versions of the same, or even related, contents are being played out in a shared session. It is also able to independently manage the playout processes of different groups of users. The IDMS solution has been integrated within an end-to-end platform, which is compatible with the hybrid broadcast broadband TV standard. It has been applied to digital video broadcasting-terrestrial technology and tested for a Social TV scenario, by also including an ad-hoc chat tool as an interaction channel. The results of the conducted (objective and subjective) evaluations prove the statisfactory behavior and performance of the IDMS solution and platform as well as in terms of the perceived quality of experience. This work was supported by Generalitat Valenciana, Investigacion competitiva proyectos, through the Research and Development Program "Grants for research groups to be consolidated, AICO/2017," under Grant AICO/2017/059.Marfil-Reguero, D.; Boronat, F.; Montagud, M.; Sapena Piera, A. Plataforma extremo-a-extremo compatible con el estándar HbbTV 2.0 para la TV híbrida y multi-dispositivo

    Get PDF
This work examines several algorithms that together make up parts of an image processing pipeline called Video Mosaicing and Summarization (VMZ). This pipeline takes as input geospatial or biomedical videos and produces large stitched-together frames (mosaics) of the video's subject. The content of these videos presents numerous challenges, such as poor lighting and a rapidly changing scene. The algorithms of VMZ were chosen carefully to address these challenges. With the output of VMZ, numerous tasks can be done. Stabilized imagery allows for easier object tracking, and the mosaics allow a quick understanding of the scene. These use-cases with aerial imagery are even more valuable when considered from the edge, where they can be applied as a drone is collecting the data. When executing video analytics algorithms, one of the most important metrics for real-life use is performance. All the accuracy in the world does not guarantee usefulness if the algorithms cannot provide that accuracy in a timely and actionable manner. Thus the goal of this work is to explore means and tools to implement video analytics algorithms, particularly the ones that make up the VMZ pipeline, on GPU devices{making them faster and more available for real-time use. This work presents four algorithms that have been converted to make use of the GPU in the GStreamer environment on NVIDIA GPUs. With GStreamer these algorithms are easily modular and lend themselves well to experimentation and real-life use even in pipelines beyond VMZ.Includes bibliographical references
