Diversity Analysis of Bit-Interleaved Coded Multiple Beamforming with Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing
For broadband wireless communication systems, Orthogonal Frequency Division
Multiplexing (OFDM) has been combined with Multi-Input Multi-Output (MIMO)
techniques. Bit-Interleaved Coded Multiple Beamforming (BICMB) can achieve both
spatial diversity and spatial multiplexing for flat fading MIMO channels. For
frequency selective fading MIMO channels, BICMB with OFDM (BICMB-OFDM) can be
applied to achieve both spatial diversity and multipath diversity, making it an
important technique. However, analyzing the diversity of BICMB-OFDM is a
challenging problem. In this paper, the diversity analysis of BICMB-OFDM is
carried out. First, the maximum achievable diversity is derived and a full
diversity condition RcSL <= 1 is proved, where Rc, S, and L are the code rate,
the number of parallel steams transmitted at each subcarrier, and the number of
channel taps, respectively. Then, the performance degradation due to the
correlation among subcarriers is investigated. Finally, the subcarrier grouping
technique is employed to combat the performance degradation and provide
multi-user compatibility.Comment: accepted to journa
Orthogonal transmultiplexers : extensions to digital subscriber line (DSL) communications
An orthogonal transmultiplexer which unifies multirate filter bank theory and communications theory is investigated in this dissertation. Various extensions of the orthogonal transmultiplexer techniques have been made for digital subscriber line communication applications.
It is shown that the theoretical performance bounds of single carrier modulation based transceivers and multicarrier modulation based transceivers are the same under the same operational conditions. Single carrier based transceiver systems such as Quadrature Amplitude Modulation (QAM) and Carrierless Amplitude and Phase (CAP) modulation scheme, multicarrier based transceiver systems such as Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) or Discrete Multi Tone (DMT) and Discrete Subband (Wavelet) Multicarrier based transceiver (DSBMT) techniques are considered in this investigation.
The performance of DMT and DSBMT based transceiver systems for a narrow band interference and their robustness are also investigated. It is shown that the performance of a DMT based transceiver system is quite sensitive to the location and strength of a single tone (narrow band) interference. The performance sensitivity is highlighted in this work. It is shown that an adaptive interference exciser can alleviate the sensitivity problem of a DMT based system. The improved spectral properties of DSBMT technique reduces the performance sensitivity for variations of a narrow band interference. It is shown that DSBMT technique outperforms DMT and has a more robust performance than the latter. The superior performance robustness is shown in this work.
Optimal orthogonal basis design using cosine modulated multirate filter bank is discussed. An adaptive linear combiner at the output of analysis filter bank is implemented to eliminate the intersymbol and interchannel interferences. It is shown that DSBMT is the most suitable technique for a narrow band interference environment.
A blind channel identification and optimal MMSE based equalizer employing a nonmaximally decimated filter bank precoder / postequalizer structure is proposed. The performance of blind channel identification scheme is shown not to be sensitive to the characteristics of unknown channel. The performance of the proposed optimal MMSE based equalizer is shown to be superior to the zero-forcing equalizer
Adaptive ground implemented phased array
Tests were conducted to determine the feasibility of using an adaptive ground implemented phased array (AGIPA) to overcome the limitations of the radio frequency interference limited low data Tracking and Data Relay Satellite VHF return link. A feasibility demonstration model of a single user channel AFIPA system was designed, developed, fabricated, and evaluated. By scaling the frequency and aperture geometry from VHF to S-band, the system performance was more easily demonstrated in the controlled environment of an anechoic chamber. The testing procedure employs an AGIPA in which received signals from each element of the array are processed on the ground to form an adaptive, independent, computer controlled beam for each user
Fractional fourier transform based waveform for a joint radar-communication system
The increasing demand of spectrum resources and the need to keep the size, weight and power consumption of modern radar as low as possible, has led to the development of solutions like joint radar-communication systems. In this paper a novel Fractional Fourier Transform (FrFT) based multiplexing scheme is presented as joint radar-communication technique. The FrFT is used to embed data into chirp sub-carriers with different time-frequency rates. Some optimisation procedures are also proposed, with the objective of improving the bandwidth occupancy and the bit rate and/or Bit Error Ratio (BER). The generated waveform is demonstrated to have a good rejection to distortions introduced by the channel, leading to low BER, while keeping good radar characteristics compared to a widely used Linear Frequency Modulated (LFM) pulse with same duration and bandwidth
