Visualizing and Quantifying Impact and Effect in Twitter Narrative using Geometric Data Analysis

We use geometric multivariate data analysis which has been termed a methodology for both the visualization and verbalization of data. The general objectives are data mining and knowledge discovery. In the first case study, we use the narrative surrounding very highly profiled tweets, and thus a Twitter event of significance and importance. In the second case study, we use eight carefully planned Twitter campaigns relating to environmental issues. The aim of these campaigns was to increase environmental awareness and behaviour. Unlike current marketing, political and other communication campaigns using Twitter, we develop an innovative approach to measuring bevavioural change. We show also how we can assess statistical significance of social media behaviour.Comment: 34 pages, 11 figure

Automatic post-processing for tolerance inspection of digitized parts made by injection moulding

    Get PDF
This paper presents the advancements of an automatic segmentation procedure based on the concept of Hierarchical Space Partitioning. It is aimed at tolerance inspection of electromechanical parts produced by injection moulding and acquired by laser scanning. After a general overview of the procedure, its application for recognising cylindrical surfaces is presented and discussed through a specific industrial test case

Difference of Normals as a Multi-Scale Operator in Unorganized Point Clouds

A novel multi-scale operator for unorganized 3D point clouds is introduced. The Difference of Normals (DoN) provides a computationally efficient, multi-scale approach to processing large unorganized 3D point clouds. The application of DoN in the multi-scale filtering of two different real-world outdoor urban LIDAR scene datasets is quantitatively and qualitatively demonstrated. In both datasets the DoN operator is shown to segment large 3D point clouds into scale-salient clusters, such as cars, people, and lamp posts towards applications in semi-automatic annotation, and as a pre-processing step in automatic object recognition. The application of the operator to segmentation is evaluated on a large public dataset of outdoor LIDAR scenes with ground truth annotations.Comment: To be published in proceedings of 3DIMPVT 201
