    Decentralized Algorithms for Consensus-Based Power Packet Distribution

    Power packets are proposed as a transmission unit that can deliver power and information simultaneously. They are transferred using the store-and-forward method of power routers. A system that achieves power supply/demand in this manner is called a power packet network (PPN). A PPN is expected to enhance structural robustness and operational reliability in an energy storage system (ESS) with recent diverse distributed sources. However, this technology is still in its early stage, and faces numerous challenges, such as high cost of implementation and complicated energy management. In this paper, we propose a novel power control based on decentralized algorithms for a PPN. Specifically, the power supply is triggered and managed by communications between power routers. We also discuss the mechanism of the decentralized algorithm for the operation of power packets and reveal the feasibility of the given control method and application by forming biased power flows on the consensus-based distribution.Comment: This paper was submitted to Nonlinear Theory and Its Applications, IEICE on October 29, 202

    Hybrid Structure Based Tracking and Consensus for Multiple Motors

    This paper investigates a hybrid structure based synchronous control strategy for multimotor system of shaftless-driven printing press. Many existing algorithms can obtain a stable synchronous system; however, the obtained stable system may encounter a large enough disturbance that can destroy the synchronization. Focusing on this challenging technological problem about how to receive more robust synchronization during steady-state process, this paper first proposes a state-dependent-switching based leader-following control approach, in which synchronization includes two parts, one associated with tracking control for all members, and the other one associated with consensus maintained among followers in the case that one follower loses synchronization with the leader during steady-state motion. By employing the algebra graph theory, matrix theory, and Lyapunov analysis, the convergence and stability of the given multimotor system are proved. Finally, simulation examples are presented to demonstrate the effectiveness and robustness of the theoretical results

    Neuronal oscillations, information dynamics, and behaviour: an evolutionary robotics study

    Oscillatory neural activity is closely related to cognition and behaviour, with synchronisation mechanisms playing a key role in the integration and functional organization of different cortical areas. Nevertheless, its informational content and relationship with behaviour - and hence cognition - are still to be fully understood. This thesis is concerned with better understanding the role of neuronal oscillations and information dynamics towards the generation of embodied cognitive behaviours and with investigating the efficacy of such systems as practical robot controllers. To this end, we develop a novel model based on the Kuramoto model of coupled phase oscillators and perform three minimally cognitive evolutionary robotics experiments. The analyses focus both on a behavioural level description, investigating the robot’s trajectories, and on a mechanism level description, exploring the variables’ dynamics and the information transfer properties within and between the agent’s body and the environment. The first experiment demonstrates that in an active categorical perception task under normal and inverted vision, networks with a definite, but not too strong, propensity for synchronisation are more able to reconfigure, to organise themselves functionally, and to adapt to different behavioural conditions. The second experiment relates assembly constitution and phase reorganisation dynamics to performance in supervised and unsupervised learning tasks. We demonstrate that assembly dynamics facilitate the evolutionary process, can account for varying degrees of stimuli modulation of the sensorimotor interactions, and can contribute to solving different tasks leaving aside other plasticity mechanisms. The third experiment explores an associative learning task considering a more realistic connectivity pattern between neurons. We demonstrate that networks with travelling waves as a default solution perform poorly compared to networks that are normally synchronised in the absence of stimuli. Overall, this thesis shows that neural synchronisation dynamics, when suitably flexible and reconfigurable, produce an asymmetric flow of information and can generate minimally cognitive embodied behaviours

    Review on Control of DC Microgrids and Multiple Microgrid Clusters

    This paper performs an extensive review on control schemes and architectures applied to dc microgrids (MGs). It covers multilayer hierarchical control schemes, coordinated control strategies, plug-and-play operations, stability and active damping aspects, as well as nonlinear control algorithms. Islanding detection, protection, and MG clusters control are also briefly summarized. All the mentioned issues are discussed with the goal of providing control design guidelines for dc MGs. The future research challenges, from the authors' point of view, are also provided in the final concluding part
