This article presents the architecture of a framework designed to facilitate the interoperability between organizations based on knowledge management. The framework has four components: business flow design, rules developing, semantic networks and ontologies design, automated semantic web service composition. The latter, is based on fractals theory and agent supervision so that to determine the boundaries of the research environment and to enhance composition performance.semantic web, business, knowledge, interoperability, services, fractals

Automatic generation of natural language service descriptions from OWL-S service descriptions

As the web grows in both size and diversity, there is an increased need to automate aspects of its use such as service coordination (e.g., discovery, composition and execution). Semantic web services combine semantic web and web service technologies, providing the support for automatic service coordination. Semantic web services are described using semantic languages (e.g., OWL-S) and can be automatically processed by intelligent agents (agent based coordination). This dissertation aims at enhancing the service coordination process, building upon well-understood and widespread practices on natural language generation. Automated service coordination relies on the existence of formal service descriptions (semantic languages, such as OWL-S or WSML). The use of web services by people is essentially associated with the discovery, composition and execution of services that match their needs. According to the person’s will, the discovered or composed service is or is not executed. This decision can only be made if the person understands the description of the service. Therefore, it is necessary that formal descriptions be converted into more natural descriptions, adequate to human comprehension. This dissertation contributes to empower the users (knowledge engineers and common citizens) of service coordination systems with the capability to better understand and decide about discovered or composed services without the need of understanding the formal language in which the semantic web service is described. We implemented a software program capable of generating natural language service descriptions from OWL-S description. It is a template-based natural language generation system that receives the OWL-S description of a service as input and converts it into an English description. This system will leverage the use of service coordination technology by people and allow them to have a more active role in the various stages of the service coordination process

ISReal: An Open Platform for Semantic-Based 3D Simulations in the 3D Internet

Abstract. We present the first open and cross-disciplinary 3D Internet research platform, called ISReal, for intelligent 3D simulation of real-ities. Its core innovation is the comprehensively integrated application of semantic Web technologies, semantic services, intelligent agents, ver-ification and 3D graphics for this purpose. In this paper, we focus on the interplay between its components for semantic XML3D scene query processing and semantic 3D animation service handling, as well as the semantic-based perception and action planning with coupled semantic service composition by agent-controlled avatars in a virtual world. We demonstrate the use of the implemented platform for semantic-based 3D simulations in a small virtual world example with an intelligent user avatar and discuss results of the platform performance evaluation.

Despite this, the service model is still plagued with several adoption inhibitors, one of which is lack of interoperability between proprietary application infrastructure services of public PaaS solutions. Although there is some progress in addressing the general PaaS interoperability issue through various devised solutions focused primarily on API compatibility and platform-agnostic application design models, interoperability specific to differentiated services provided by the existing public PaaS providers and the resultant disparity owing to the offered services’ semantics has not been addressed effectively, yet. The literature indicates that this dimension of PaaS interoperability is awaiting evolution in the state-of-the-art. This paper proposes the initial system design of a PaaS interoperability (IntPaaS) framework to be developed through the integration of semantic and agent technologies to enable transparent interoperability between incompatible PaaS services. This will involve uniform description through semantic annotation of PaaS provider services utilizing the OWL-S ontology, creating a knowledgebase that enables software agents to automatically search for suitable services to support Cloud-based Greenfield application development. The rest of the paper discusses the identified research problem along with the proposed solution to address the issue.Submitted Versio

Hybrid Composition of Web Services and Grid Services

Abstract Web service composition is now seen as a focal point of research, especially as mechanisms for the coordination of distributed tasks are acquiring more importance. Models such as BPEL4WS can cater for local and centralised coordination. There is, however, a need to reconcile different technologies on a wider scale. This requires the development of efficient and flexible frameworks in order to ensure the optimal use and coordination of distributed applications. The work presented in this paper is concerned with the development of a compositional framework, which brings together Grid services, Web services and Semantic Web technology within a BPEL4WS platform. It is aimed at enhancing BPEL4WS by allowing for the hybrid composition of Web services and Grid services, and by incorporating dynamic binding through agent mediation. The efficient management of workflows afforded by BPEL4WS is combined with the versatility of agent technology. An agent-based system, called SOA, was developed to support the framework

Approaches to Semantic Web Services: An Overview and Comparison

Abstract. The next Web generation promises to deliver Semantic Web Services (SWS); services that are self-described and amenable to automated discovery, composition and invocation. A prerequisite to this, however, is the emergence and evolution of the Semantic Web, which provides the infrastructure for the semantic interoperability of Web Services. Web Services will be augmented with rich formal descriptions of their capabilities, such that they can be utilized by applications or other services without human assistance or highly constrained agreements on interfaces or protocols. Thus, Semantic Web Services have the potential to change the way knowledge and business services are consumed and provided on the Web. In this paper, we survey the state of the art of current enabling technologies for Semantic Web Services. In addition, we characterize the infrastructure of Semantic Web Services along three orthogonal dimensions: activities, architecture and service ontology. Further, we examine and contrast three current approaches to SWS according to the proposed dimensions
