EffiTest: Efficient Delay Test and Statistical Prediction for Configuring Post-silicon Tunable Buffers
At nanometer manufacturing technology nodes, process variations significantly
affect circuit performance. To combat them, post- silicon clock tuning buffers
can be deployed to balance timing bud- gets of critical paths for each
individual chip after manufacturing. The challenge of this method is that path
delays should be mea- sured for each chip to configure the tuning buffers
properly. Current methods for this delay measurement rely on path-wise
frequency stepping. This strategy, however, requires too much time from ex-
pensive testers. In this paper, we propose an efficient delay test framework
(EffiTest) to solve the post-silicon testing problem by aligning path delays
using the already-existing tuning buffers in the circuit. In addition, we only
test representative paths and the delays of other paths are estimated by
statistical delay prediction. Exper- imental results demonstrate that the
proposed method can reduce the number of frequency stepping iterations by more
than 94% with only a slight yield loss.Comment: ACM/IEEE Design Automation Conference (DAC), June 201
Efficient method for measuring the parameters encoded in a gravitational-wave signal
Once upon a time, predictions for the accuracy of inference on
gravitational-wave signals relied on computationally inexpensive but often
inaccurate techniques. Recently, the approach has shifted to actual inference
on noisy signals with complex stochastic Bayesian methods, at the expense of
significant computational cost. Here, we argue that it is often possible to
have the best of both worlds: a Bayesian approach that incorporates prior
information and correctly marginalizes over uninteresting parameters, providing
accurate posterior probability distribution functions, but carried out on a
simple grid at a low computational cost, comparable to the inexpensive
predictive techniques.Comment: 17 pages, 5 figure
Main features of Italian banking service: a cross-regional dynamic analysis
A strategy of exploratory multidimensional statistical analysis about key attributes of banking services is proposed. A static perspective, showing customers evaluation of banking offer as a whole, is followed by a dynamic view, analyzing regional paths across the considered waves, according to the importance and evaluation of the service attributes.
Sequential Design for Optimal Stopping Problems
We propose a new approach to solve optimal stopping problems via simulation.
Working within the backward dynamic programming/Snell envelope framework, we
augment the methodology of Longstaff-Schwartz that focuses on approximating the
stopping strategy. Namely, we introduce adaptive generation of the stochastic
grids anchoring the simulated sample paths of the underlying state process.
This allows for active learning of the classifiers partitioning the state space
into the continuation and stopping regions. To this end, we examine sequential
design schemes that adaptively place new design points close to the stopping
boundaries. We then discuss dynamic regression algorithms that can implement
such recursive estimation and local refinement of the classifiers. The new
algorithm is illustrated with a variety of numerical experiments, showing that
an order of magnitude savings in terms of design size can be achieved. We also
compare with existing benchmarks in the context of pricing multi-dimensional
Bermudan options.Comment: 24 page
Multi-disciplinary robust design of variable speed wind turbines
This paper addresses the preliminary robust multi-disciplinary design of small wind turbines. The turbine to be designed is assumed to be connected to the grid by means of power electronic converters. The main input parameter is the yearly wind distribution at the selected site, and it is represented by means of a Weibull distribution. The objective function is the electrical energy delivered yearly to the grid. Aerodynamic and electrical characteristics are fully coupled and modelled by means of low- and medium-fidelity models. Uncertainty affecting the blade geometry is considered, and a multi-objective hybrid evolutionary algorithm code is used to maximise the mean value of the yearly energy production and minimise its variance
Design of a digital compression technique for shuttle television
The determination of the performance and hardware complexity of data compression algorithms applicable to color television signals, were studied to assess the feasibility of digital compression techniques for shuttle communications applications. For return link communications, it is shown that a nonadaptive two dimensional DPCM technique compresses the bandwidth of field-sequential color TV to about 13 MBPS and requires less than 60 watts of secondary power. For forward link communications, a facsimile coding technique is recommended which provides high resolution slow scan television on a 144 KBPS channel. The onboard decoder requires about 19 watts of secondary power
