Fuzzification of quantitative data to predict tumour size of colorectal cancer
Regression analysis has become more popular among researchers as a standard tool in analyzing data. This paper used fuzzy linear regression model (FLRM) to predict tumour size of colorectal cancer (CRC) data in Malaysia. 180 patients with colorectal cancer received treatment in hospital were recorded by nurses and doctors. Based on the patient records, a triangular fuzzy data will be built toward the size of the tumour. Mean square error (MSE) and root mean square error (RMSE) will be measured as a part of the process for predicting the size of the tumour. The degree of fitting adjusted is set between 0 and 1 in order to find the least error. It was found that the combination of FLRM model with fuzzy data provided a better prediction compared to the FLRM model alone. Hence, this study concluded that the tumour size is directly proportional to several factors such as gender, ethnic, icd 10, TNM staging, diabetes mellitus, Crohnâs disease

An empirical investigation on EDI determinants and outcomes in Malaysian industry
Government involvement is the main cause for the EDI acceptance
in Southeast Asian countries (United Nation of Economic and
Social Commission for Asia and Pacific - UNESCAP, 1996). This
is significantly different from the EDI developments in the western
countries in which private sector involvement in EDI is substantial
(UNESCAP, 1996). As an initial step to spur EDI implementation in
private sector, the Malaysian Government has imposed all companies
that engage in international trade to implement EDI by doing
electronic customs declarations through CIS (Customs Information
System) DagangNet. For this, the Government also spent over RM
300 million to fully implement EDI nationwide (Star, 2003 December
3). Nevertheless, such implementation is not successful and it has
been claimed that
âEDI is not yet fully implemented even though it
had been initiated since late 1990s, besides electronic data is also
still not recognized for legal customs declaration purposes even if it
was meant for paperless and electronic customs declarationsâ
(Star,
2003 December 3). To date, there are dual customs declarations, both
electronic and manual, in practices where the sole typical electronic
transaction is registration of the customs form (Jimmy, 2005; Star,
2005 July 11). This is in contrast with electronic customs declarations by other countries such as Hong Kong, Korea and Singapore where
there is a full electronic declaration including electronic payment
for declarations charges (Jimmy, 2005; Star, 2005 July 11; Chau,
2001)
Determinant Factors of E-commerce Adoption by SMEs in Developing Country: Evidence from Indonesia
The aim of this study is to investigate those factors that influence SMEs in developing countries in adopting e-commerce. This study is motivated by the fact that the adoption of e-commerce by SMEs, especially in developing countries, is still very far behind the adoption by large companies. Yet to be able to survive in the new economic era, which is the information era; businesses, including SMEs, are forced to adopt e-commerce. Non-adopters will be left behind by the adopters. In addition, studies regarding e-commerce adoption by SMEs are rarely found. Therefore, the results of this study provide a timely understanding of e-commerce adoption by SMEs in developing countries.
The model developed in this study is based on the TOE framework. Eleven variables are proposed as the factors that influence SMEs in adopting of e-commerce. These are organized into four groups, namely: technological factors, organizational factors, environmental factors and individual factors. Based on a survey of 292 Indonesian SMEs, it was found that perceived benefits, technology readiness, ownersâ innovativeness, ownersâ IT ability and ownersâ IT experience are the determinant factors that influence Indonesian SMEs in their adopting e-commerce
Technology implementation barriers in the Malaysian herbal industry: A case study
Technology is an essential component in all types of organisations and most organisations have reasons to implement new technology. The most fundamental justification for new technology implementation is that the technology must be able to contribute to strong competitive advantages and also increase or create long-term profit. In most small and medium enterprises (SMEs), there are barriers or obstacles in implementing these technologies. This article report a study aimed in investigating barriers faced by the Malaysian herbal industry in implementing technologies in their factory. Most of the local herbal manufacturing firms are categorised as SMEs which are usually considered to be lagged behind larger companies in technology usage. As this was an exploratory research, a case study method was used as it gave in-depth explanation of the main barriers of technology implementation. The results suggested that the main constraint in implementing technologies are lack of technical specialists and financial, aid commitment from top management, low wage rate, and future demand uncertainties

However, EC adoption by SMEs in developing countries has faced many challenges that have not been adequately addressed due to the complex nature of EC adoption in such countries. The aim of this study is to systematically examine the influence of organizational, industry, and national readiness and environmental pressure on the adoption of diverse EC technologies by SMEs in developing countries. A quantitative survey was conducted with retail SMEs within the Malaysian grocery sector to validate the proposed multi-level model. Findings indicate significant influence of environmental pressure on the adoption of various EC technologies. Organizational and national readiness have different influences across diverse EC technologies, while the influence of industry readiness is shown to be insignificant. This study extends the current understanding of the influence of micro-, meso- and macro-level factors and has important implications for researchers, practitioners, and policy makers.Peer reviewedFinal Accepted Versio
Electronic government procurement adoption behavior amongst Malaysian SMEs
The aim of this study is to investigate the relationship between a model of electronic procurement (e-procurement)
adoption behavior and the level of Government e-procurement adoption amongst Small Medium Enterprise (SME) in Malaysia. Data was collected through questionnaires that were distributed to SME selected randomly in all SME in Malaysia.The data were analyzed using factor analysis, reliability analysis, independent-sample t-test, descriptive
statistics, Pearson Correlation and multiple regressions. Regression results reveals that âpowerâ, âtrustâ and âvalueâ
have a positive relationship with the level of e-procurement adoption amongst SME in Malaysia.All dimensions, namely; the power of supplier, power of procurement, trust on supplier, trust on information technology, value of implementation system efficiency and value of cost efficiency were also correlated with the level of e-procurement adoption amongst SME. Past studies on e-procurement are beset by problems of buyer-seller relationship perspective.In addition, these studies are skewed towards Government-SME relationship perspective which the Government possesses more power than SME and provide a better incentive to educate and influence SME to adopt e-procurement.In investigation the relationship between a model of e-procurement adoption behavior and the level of Government e-procurement adoption amongst SME in Malaysia, this study also tries to provides recommendation to Malaysian government for improving the level of e-procurement adoption amongst SME
Building consumersâ confidence in adopting e-commerce: A Malaysian case
Consumersâ confidence on the online transactions is vital for the continuous growth and development of electronic commerce. In the present study, we experimentally investigate the measures of consumersâ perceived security and privacy over online transactions as well as the perceived trust and reliability of online vendors in order to influence consumersâ overall confidence in e-commerce transactions. On the basis of responses from 163 participants, it is concluded that the major concerns in e-commerce adoption are: security and privacy over online transaction process and trust and reliability of online vendors. Profiling research published in the journal of enterprise information management (JEIM)
Purpose â The purpose of this paper is to analyse research published in the Journal of Enterprise Information Management (JEIM) in the last ten years (1999 to 2008).
Design/methodology/approach â Employing a profiling approach, the analysis of the 381 JEIM publications includes examining variables such as the most active authors, geographic diversity, authors' backgrounds, co-author analysis, research methods and keyword analysis.
Findings â All the finding are in relation to the period of analysis (1999 to 2008). (a) Research categorised under descriptive, theoretical and conceptual methods is the most dominant research approach followed by JEIM authors. This is followed by case study research. (b) The largest proportion of contributions came from researchers and practitioners with an information systems background, followed by those with a background in business and computer science and IT. (c) The keyword analysis suggests that âinformation systemsâ, âelectronic commerceâ, âinternetâ, âlogisticsâ, âsupply chain managementâ, âdecision makingâ, âsmall to medium-sized enterprisesâ, âinformation managementâ, âoutsourcingâ, and âmodellingâ were the most frequently investigated keywords. (d) The paper presents and discusses the findings obtained from the citation analysis that determines the impact of the research published in the JEIM.
Originality/value â The primary value of this paper lies in extending the understanding of the evolution and patterns of IS research. This has been achieved by analysing and synthesising existing JEIM publications
