    Value-focused objectives for CRM system adoption

    • Purpose The purpose of this paper is to define objectives for Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system adoption. The objectives provide a theoretical basis for strategizing about CRM system adoption. The objectives also provide managers to clearly direct CRM system adoption, thus ensuring a highly successful outcome. • Design/methodology/approach The authors conducted a sequential multi-method research in Europe. The initial qualitative phase constituted 62 in-depth interviews. Using Keeney’s (1992) value-focused thinking approach, the authors defined 102 CRM system adoption objectives. Quantitative purification techniques, using a sample of 210 organisations, a more parsimonious set of objectives were developed. The complete set of objectives were classified into fundamental and means objectives. • Findings Results present three fundamental and three means objectives. These objectives allow for successful CRM system adoption. The three fundamental objectives are: maximise CRM organisational culture; ensure an effective relationship with CRM providers; and minimise CRM project risks. The three means objectives are: maximise CRM usage, maximise relational marketing capabilities, maximise CRM orientation. • Practical implications This study provides strategic objectives that can be used by companies to plan adoption of a CRM system. Hence the fundamental and means objectives take the form a strategic planning template. • Originality/value Although technology adoption has been well researched and has also been extended to address CRM systems, the focus has largely been behavioural. The strategic objectives for CRM system adoption, presented in this paper, are novel. Objectives enable decision making and resource planning.     This open access book aims at deepening the understanding of the relation between cyber-physical systems (CPSs) as socio-technical systems and their digital representations with intertwined artificial intelligence (AI). The authors describe why it is crucial for digital selves to be able to develop emotional behavior and why a humanity-inspired AI is necessary so that humans and humanoids can coexist. The introductory chapter describes major milestones in computer science which form the basis for the implementation of digital twins and digital selves. The subsequent Part I then lays the foundation to develop a socio-technical understanding of the nature of digital twins as representations and trans-human development objects. Following the conceptual understanding of digital twins and how they could be engineered according to cognitive and organizational structures, Part II forms the groundwork for understanding social behavior and its modeling. It discusses various perception-based socio-emotional approaches before sketching behavior-relevant models and their simulation capabilities. In particular, it is shown how emotions can substantially influence the collective behavior of artificial actors. Part III eventually presents a symbiosis showing under which preconditions digital selves might construct and produce digital twins as integrated design elements in trans-human ecosystems. The chapters in this part are dedicated to opportunities and modes of co-creating reflective socio-trans-human systems based on digital twin models, exploring mutual control and continuous development. The final epilog is congenitally speculative in its nature by presenting thoughts on future developments of artificial life in computational substrates. The book is written for researchers and professionals in areas like cyber-physical systems, robotics, social simulation or systems engineering, interested to take a speculative look into the future of digital twins and autonomous agents.     A Middle School's Journey from Improvement Required towards Professional Learning Communities

    abstract: The focus of this research study was to better understand the development of a Professional Learning Community (PLC) culture within an urban middle school campus and to analyze if the intervention, intended to develop a campus PLC culture, had any positive or negative impact on student achievement. This mixed-methods research study utilized pre and post surveys and interviews with campus educators to delve into the perceptions of the development of a PLC culture within the middle school campus. Furthermore, student academic performance was explored through the analysis of state academic performance reports. The first significant finding of this study was that the results of the concurrent method of data analysis affirmed that, potentially because of this intervention during the 2018-2019 academic school year, the middle school of this study did commence the development of a professional learning community culture. The second significant finding was that based on the data analyzed of student performance for the three previous academic years, student achievement did increase academically when accounting all students and all contents. Furthermore, both math and English language arts had the lowest percentage of students not meeting grade level standards since 2016. Finally, the largest subpopulation within the school campus, English Learner students, demonstrated large gains at 23 percentage points over the last three years in the academic performance tier of approaching grade level or above. This increase in academic performance by the students did ultimately lead to the campus performance rating to increase positively, as measured by the state of Texas.Dissertation/ThesisDoctoral Dissertation Leadership and Innovation 201

    Distributed Handler Architecture

    Thesis (PhD) - Indiana University, Computer Sciences, 2007Over the last couple of decades, distributed systems have been demonstrated an architectural evolvement based on models including client/server, multi-tier, distributed objects, messaging and peer-to-peer. One recent evolutionary step is Service Oriented Architecture (SOA), whose goal is to achieve loose-coupling among the interacting software applications for scalability and interoperability. The SOA model is engendered in Web Services, which provide software platforms to build applications as services and to create seamless and loosely-coupled interactions. Web Services utilize supportive functionalities such as security, reliability, monitoring, logging and so forth. These functionalities are typically provisioned as handlers, which incrementally add new capabilities to the services by building an execution chain. Even though handlers are very important to the service, the way of utilization is very crucial to attain the potential benefits. Every attempt to support a service with an additive functionality increases the chance of having an overwhelmingly crowded chain: this makes Web Service fat. Moreover, a handler may become a bottleneck because of having a comparably higher processing time. In this dissertation, we present Distributed Handler Architecture (DHArch) to provide an efficient, scalable and modular architecture to manage the execution of the handlers. The system distributes the handlers by utilizing a Message Oriented Middleware and orchestrates their execution in an efficient fashion. We also present an empirical evaluation of the system to demonstrate the suitability of this architecture to cope with the issues that exist in the conventional Web Service handler structures

    A framework for assessing robustness of water networks and computational evaluation of resilience.

    Arid regions tend to take careful measures to ensure water supplies are secured to consumers, to help provide the basis for further development. Water distribution network is the most expensive part of the water supply infrastructure and it must maintain performance during unexpected incidents. Many aspects of performance have previously been discussed separately, including reliability, vulnerability, flexibility and resilience. This study aimed to develop a framework to bring together these aspects as found in the literature and industry practice, and bridge the gap between them. Semi-structured interviews with water industry experts were used to examine the presence and understanding of robustness factors. Thematic analysis was applied to investigate these and inform a conceptual framework including the component and topological levels. Robustness was described by incorporating network reliability and resiliency. The research focused on resiliency as a network-level concept derived from flexibility and vulnerability. To utilise this new framework, the study explored graph theory to formulate metrics for flexibility and vulnerability that combine network topology and hydraulics. The flexibility metric combines hydraulic edge betweenness centrality, representing hydraulic connectivity, and hydraulic edge load, measuring utilised capacity. Vulnerability captures the impact of failures on the ability of the network to supply consumers, and their sensitivity to disruptions, by utilising node characteristics, such as demand, population and alternative supplies. These measures together cover both edge (pipe) centric and node (demand) centric perspectives. The resiliency assessment was applied to several literature benchmark networks prior to using a real case network. The results show the benefits of combining hydraulics with topology in robustness analysis. The assessment helps to identify components or sections of importance for future expansion plans or maintenance purposes. The study provides a novel viewpoint overarching the gap between literature and practice, incorporating different critical factors for robust performance

    Evolving reablement through occupational perspectives and welfare technology in home care

    Rationale: Sweden is encountering dual societal challenges characterised by a rapidly ageing population and a diminishing home care workforce, leading to strained resources, which potentially can impact the quality of care. This situation poses a considerable risk to the health and overall well-being of older adults and home care staff. Innovative strategies are necessary to restructure the provision of home care services that promote healthy ageing and enable older adults to age in place. Reablement, as a rehabilitation approach, is recognized in other countries but is relatively new in Sweden. However, despite increased research, knowledge gaps and ambiguities persist regarding reablement’s theoretical foundation and key components. This knowledge is needed to increase transferability and facilitate successful implementations, thereby advancing the evolution of reablement. Aim: This thesis aims to contribute to the evolution of reablement in home care, using theory, occupational perspectives, and welfare technology to promote healthy ageing in place. Method: The four studies included in this thesis applied various methods to gain knowledge about different perspectives and prerequisites for reablement to evolve. Study I applied a quantitative approach where a questionnaire was sent out to 467 home care staff containing questions about their perceived psychosocial work environment and job strain. Data was analysed with descriptive and inferential statistics. Study II is a quasi-experimental, mixedmethod feasibility study of the reablement program ASSIST 1.0. Seven older adults and three home care staff participated in the program, and ten older adults participated in the control group and received ordinary home care. Quantitative data from clinical outcome measures were analysed with descriptive and inferential statistics, and interviews and field notes were transcribed and analysed according to a qualitative content analysis. Study III is a qualitative study containing nine interviews conducted with the three home care staff involved in ASSIST 1.0 to explore how theories and concepts can evolve the understanding of reablement. The interviews were analysed with Braun & Clarke’s reflexive thematic analysis. Study IV applies a mixed-method design to evaluate the usability and user experience of an information and communication technology system within a home care organization. Quantitative data consisted of test-based usability assessments and self-reported questionnaires, analysed with descriptive statistics. Qualitative data consisted of transcribed material from one focus group interview with six home care staff and three individual interviews with managers from the home care agency. Conclusion: The outcomes from the four studies lay the foundation for the discussion of this thesis, focusing on current reablement discourses and delving into three areas contributing to the evolution of reablement. The first two areas critically reflect on theories that can underpin reablement, strengthen the person-centred and holistic approach, and discuss why and how occupational perspectives can provide new outlooks for reablement. Combined, these two areas contribute to an evolved definition of reablement. The third area addresses why welfare technology is essential for enhancing the interprofessional and person-centred approach in reablement. Finally, it is proposed why reablement should be implemented in Sweden, advocating for a change in policies and guidelines for how home care can be reconstructed to facilitate healthy ageing in place
