Underdetermined blind source separation based on Fuzzy C-Means and Semi-Nonnegative Matrix Factorization
Conventional blind source separation is based on over-determined with more sensors than sources but the underdetermined is a challenging case and more convenient to actual situation. Non-negative Matrix Factorization (NMF) has been widely applied to Blind Source Separation (BSS) problems. However, the separation results are sensitive to the initialization of parameters of NMF. Avoiding the subjectivity of choosing parameters, we used the Fuzzy C-Means (FCM) clustering technique to estimate the mixing matrix and to reduce the requirement for sparsity. Also, decreasing the constraints is regarded in this paper by using Semi-NMF. In this paper we propose a new two-step algorithm in order to solve the underdetermined blind source separation. We show how to combine the FCM clustering technique with the gradient-based NMF with the multi-layer technique. The simulation results show that our proposed algorithm can separate the source signals with high signal-to-noise ratio and quite low cost time compared with some algorithms

Fast, scalable, Bayesian spike identification for multi-electrode arrays
We present an algorithm to identify individual neural spikes observed on
high-density multi-electrode arrays (MEAs). Our method can distinguish large
numbers of distinct neural units, even when spikes overlap, and accounts for
intrinsic variability of spikes from each unit. As MEAs grow larger, it is
important to find spike-identification methods that are scalable, that is, the
computational cost of spike fitting should scale well with the number of units
observed. Our algorithm accomplishes this goal, and is fast, because it
exploits the spatial locality of each unit and the basic biophysics of
extracellular signal propagation. Human intervention is minimized and
streamlined via a graphical interface. We illustrate our method on data from a
mammalian retina preparation and document its performance on simulated data
consisting of spikes added to experimentally measured background noise. The
algorithm is highly accurate
Spike-and-Slab Priors for Function Selection in Structured Additive Regression Models
Structured additive regression provides a general framework for complex
Gaussian and non-Gaussian regression models, with predictors comprising
arbitrary combinations of nonlinear functions and surfaces, spatial effects,
varying coefficients, random effects and further regression terms. The large
flexibility of structured additive regression makes function selection a
challenging and important task, aiming at (1) selecting the relevant
covariates, (2) choosing an appropriate and parsimonious representation of the
impact of covariates on the predictor and (3) determining the required
interactions. We propose a spike-and-slab prior structure for function
selection that allows to include or exclude single coefficients as well as
blocks of coefficients representing specific model terms. A novel
multiplicative parameter expansion is required to obtain good mixing and
convergence properties in a Markov chain Monte Carlo simulation approach and is
shown to induce desirable shrinkage properties. In simulation studies and with
(real) benchmark classification data, we investigate sensitivity to
hyperparameter settings and compare performance to competitors. The flexibility
and applicability of our approach are demonstrated in an additive piecewise
exponential model with time-varying effects for right-censored survival times
of intensive care patients with sepsis. Geoadditive and additive mixed logit
model applications are discussed in an extensive appendix
