Hybrid fuzzy sliding mode control for motorised space tether spin-up when coupled with axial and torsional oscillation

    Get PDF
A specialised hybrid controller is applied to the control of a motorised space tether spin-up space coupled with an axial and a torsional oscillation phenomenon. A seven-degree-of-freedom (7-DOF) dynamic model of a motorised momentum exchange tether is used as the basis for interplanetary payload exchange in the context of control. The tether comprises a symmetrical double payload configuration, with an outrigger counter inertia and massive central facility. It is shown that including axial and torsional elasticity permits an enhanced level of performance prediction accuracy and a useful departure from the usual rigid body representations, particularly for accurate payload positioning at strategic points. A simulation with given initial condition data has been devised in a connecting programme between control code written in MATLAB and dynamics simulation code constructed within MATHEMATICA. It is shown that there is an enhanced level of spin-up control for the 7-DOF motorised momentum exchange tether system using the specialised hybrid controller. hybrid controller

A Novel Adaptive Sliding Mode Controller for a 2-DOF Elastic Robotic Arm

    Get PDF
Collaborative robots (or cobots) are robots that are capable of safely operating in a shared environment or interacting with humans. In recent years, cobots have become increasingly common. Compliant actuators are critical in the design of cobots. In real applications, this type of actuation system may be able to reduce the amount of damage caused by an unanticipated collision. As a result, elastic joints are expected to outperform stiff joints in complex situations. In this work, the control of a 2-DOF robot arm with elastic actuators is addressed by proposing a two-loop adaptive controller. For the outer control loop, an adaptive sliding mode controller (ASMC) is adopted to deal with uncertainties and disturbance on the load side of the robot arm. For the inner loops, model reference adaptive controllers (MRAC) are utilised to handle the uncertainties on the motor side of the robot arm. To show the effectiveness of the proposed controller, extensive simulation experiments and a comparison with the conventional sliding mode controller (SMC) are carried out. As a result, the ASMC has a 50.35% lower average RMS error than the SMC controller, and a shorter settling time (5% criterion) (0.44 s compared to 2.11 s).publishedVersio

On-board congestion control for satellite packet switching networks

    Get PDF
It is desirable to incorporate packet switching capability on-board for future communication satellites. Because of the statistical nature of packet communication, incoming traffic fluctuates and may cause congestion. Thus, it is necessary to incorporate a congestion control mechanism as part of the on-board processing to smooth and regulate the bursty traffic. Although there are extensive studies on congestion control for both baseband and broadband terrestrial networks, these schemes are not feasible for space based switching networks because of the unique characteristics of satellite link. Here, we propose a new congestion control method for on-board satellite packet switching. This scheme takes into consideration the long propagation delay in satellite link and takes advantage of the the satellite's broadcasting capability. It divides the control between the ground terminals and satellite, but distributes the primary responsibility to ground terminals and only requires minimal hardware resource on-board satellite

Observer-based adaptive sliding mode fault-tolerant control for the underactuated space robot with joint actuator gain faults

    Get PDF
summary:An adaptive sliding mode fault-tolerant controller based on fault observer is proposed for the space robots with joint actuator gain faults. Firstly, the dynamic model of the underactuated space robot is deduced combining conservation law of linear momentum with Lagrange method. Then, the dynamic model of the manipulator joints is obtained by using the mathematical operation of the block matrices, hence the measurement of the angular acceleration of the base attitude can be omitted. Subsequently, a fault observer which can accurately estimate the gain faults is designed, and the estimated results are fed back to the adaptive sliding mode fault-tolerant controller. It is proved that the proposed control algorithm can guarantee the global asymptotic stability of the closed-loop system through the Lyapunov theorem. The simulation results authenticate the effectiveness and feasibility of the control strategy and observation scheme

A novel online data-driven algorithm for detecting UAV navigation sensor faults

The use of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) has increased significantly in recent years. On-board integrated navigation sensors are a key component of UAVs' flight control systems and are essential for flight safety. In order to ensure flight safety, timely and effective navigation sensor fault detection capability is required. In this paper, a novel data-driven Adaptive Neuron Fuzzy Inference System (ANFIS)-based approach is presented for the detection of on-board navigation sensor faults in UAVs. Contrary to the classic UAV sensor fault detection algorithms, based on predefined or modelled faults, the proposed algorithm combines an online data training mechanism with the ANFIS-based decision system. The main advantages of this algorithm are that it allows real-time model-free residual analysis from Kalman Filter (KF) estimates and the ANFIS to build a reliable fault detection system. In addition, it allows fast and accurate detection of faults, which makes it suitable for real-time applications. Experimental results have demonstrated the effectiveness of the proposed fault detection method in terms of accuracy and misdetection rate

Adaptive sliding mode fault-tolerant attitude control for flexible satellites based on T-S fuzzy disturbance modeling

    Get PDF
This paper investigates the fault tolerance problem of flexible satellites subject to actuator faults and multiple disturbances. An adaptive sliding mode fault tolerant control (ASMFTC) approach based on Takagi-Sugeno (T-S) fuzzy disturbance observer (TSFDO) is presented for attitude control system (ACS) under loss of actuator effectiveness, environmental disturbance torque and elastic modal generated by flexible appendages. Compared with the traditional disturbance observer based control (DOBC) methods, the T-S fuzzy technology is applied to estimate the unknown nonlinear elastic modal. Then, the energy bounded disturbance is eliminated by designing an adaptive sliding mode controller. The proposed ASMFTC design can guarantee the sliding surface to approach zero. Finally, the effectiveness of the control method proposed in this paper is further verified by comparative simulation

The research relies on the comprehensive cascade control approach to be developed in the area of spacecraft, as long as Monte-Carlo based representation is taken into real consideration with respect to state-of-the-art. It is obvious that the conventional methods do not have sufficient merit to be able to deal with such a process under control, constantly, provided that a number of system parameters variations are to be used in providing real situations. It is to note that the new insights in the area of the research’s topic are valuable to outperform a class of spacecrafts performance as the realizations of the acquired results are to be addressed in both real and academic environments. In a word, there are a combination of double closed loop based upon quaternion based control approach in connection with Euler based control approach to handle the three-axis rotational angles and its rates, synchronously, in association with pulse modulation analysis and control allocation, where the dynamics and kinematics of the present system under control are analyzed. A series of experiments are carried out to consider the approach performance in which the aforementioned Monte-Carlo based representation is to be realized in verifying the investigated outcomes

Anti-Unwinding Sliding Mode Attitude Maneuver Control for Rigid Spacecraft

In this paper, anti-unwinding attitude maneuver control for rigid spacecraft is considered. First, in order to avoid the unwinding phenomenon when the system states are restricted to the switching surface, a novel switching function is constructed by hyperbolic sine functions such that the switching surface contains two equilibriums. Then, a sliding mode attitude maneuver controller is designed based on the constructed switching function to ensure the robustness of the closed-loop attitude maneuver control system to disturbance. Another important feature of the developed attitude control law is that a dynamic parameter is introduced to guarantee the anti-unwinding performance before the system states reach the switching surface. The simulation results demonstrate that the unwinding problem is settled during attitude maneuver for rigid spacecraft by adopting the newly constructed switching function and proposed attitude control scheme.Comment: 8 pages, 8 figure
