Event-triggered output consensus for linear multi-agent systems via adaptive distributed observer

summary:This paper investigates the distributed event-triggered cooperative output regulation problem for heterogeneous linear continuous-time multi-agent systems (MASs). To eliminate the requirement of continuous communication among interacting following agents, an event-triggered adaptive distributed observer is skillfully devised. Furthermore, a class of closed-loop estimators is constructed and implemented on each agent such that the triggering times on each agent can be significantly reduced while at the same time the desired control performance can be preserved. Compared with the existing open-loop estimators, the proposed estimators can provide more accurate state estimates during each triggering period. It is further shown that the concerned cooperative output regulation problem can be effectively resolved under the proposed control scheme and the undesirable Zeno behavior can be excluded. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed results is verified by numerical simulations

Synchronous MDADT-Based Fuzzy Adaptive Tracking Control for Switched Multiagent Systems via Modified Self-Triggered Mechanism

In this paper, a self-triggered fuzzy adaptive switched control strategy is proposed to address the synchronous tracking issue in switched stochastic multiagent systems (MASs) based on mode-dependent average dwell-time (MDADT) method. Firstly, a synchronous slow switching mechanism is considered in switched stochastic MASs and realized through a class of designed switching signals under MDADT property. By utilizing the information of both specific agents under switching dynamics and observers with switching features, the synchronous switching signals are designed, which reduces the design complexity. Then, a switched state observer via a switching-related output mask is proposed. The information of agents and their preserved neighbors is utilized to construct the observer and the observation performance of states is improved. Moreover, a modified self- triggered mechanism is designed to improve control performance via proposing auxiliary function. Finally, by analysing the re- lationship between the synchronous switching problem and the different switching features of the followers, the synchronous slow switching mechanism based on MDADT is obtained. Meanwhile, the designed self-triggered controller can guarantee that all signals of the closed-loop system are ultimately bounded under the switching signals. The effectiveness of the designed control method can be verified by some simulation results

Distributed Optimal Control and Application to Consensus of Multi-Agent Systems

This paper develops a novel approach to the consensus problem of multi-agent systems by minimizing a weighted state error with neighbor agents via linear quadratic (LQ) optimal control theory. Existing consensus control algorithms only utilize the current state of each agent, and the design of distributed controller depends on nonzero eigenvalues of the communication topology. The presented optimal consensus controller is obtained by solving Riccati equations and designing appropriate observers to account for agents' historical state information. It is shown that the corresponding cost function under the proposed controllers is asymptotically optimal. Simulation examples demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed scheme, and a much faster convergence speed than the conventional consensus methods. Moreover, the new method avoids computing nonzero eigenvalues of the communication topology as in the traditional consensus methods

Distributed Cooperative Regulation for Multiagent Systems and Its Applications to Power Systems: A Survey

Cooperative regulation of multiagent systems has become an active research area in the past decade. This paper reviews some recent progress in distributed coordination control for leader-following multiagent systems and its applications in power system and mainly focuses on the cooperative tracking control in terms of consensus tracking control and containment tracking control. Next, methods on how to rank the network nodes are summarized for undirected/directed network, based on which one can determine which follower should be connected to leaders such that partial followers can perceive leaders’ information. Furthermore, we present a survey of the most relevant scientific studies investigating the regulation and optimization problems in power systems based on distributed strategies. Finally, some potential applications in the frequency tracking regulation of smart grids are discussed at the end of the paper

Leader-following consensus for lower-triangular nonlinear multi-agent systems with unknown controller and measurement sensitivities

summary:In this paper, a novel consensus algorithm is presented to handle with the leader-following consensus problem for lower-triangular nonlinear MASs (multi-agent systems) with unknown controller and measurement sensitivities under a given undirected topology. As distinguished from the existing results, the proposed consensus algorithm can tolerate to a relative wide range of controller and measurement sensitivities. We present some important matrix inequalities, especially a class of matrix inequalities with multiplicative noises. Based on these results and a dual-domination gain method, the output consensus error with unknown measurement noises can be used to construct the compensator for each follower directly. Then, a new distributed output feedback control is designed to enable the MASs to reach consensus in the presence of large controller perturbations. In view of a Lyapunov function, sufficient conditions are presented to guarantee that the states of the leader and followers can achieve consensus asymptotically. In the end, the proposed consensus algorithm is tested and verified by an illustrative example
