    Robust and Decentralized Control of Web Winding Systems

    This research addresses the velocity and tension regulation problems in web handling, including those found in the single element of an accumulator and those in the large-scale system settings. A continuous web winding system is a complex large-scale interconnected dynamics system with numerous tension zones to transport the web while processing it. A major challenge in controlling such systems is the unexpected disturbances that propagate through the system and affect both tension and velocity loops along the way. To solve this problem, a unique active disturbance rejection control (ADRC) strategy is proposed. Simulation results show remarkable disturbance rejection capability of the proposed control scheme in coping with large dynamic variations commonly seen in web winding systems. Another complication in web winding system stems from its large-scale and interconnected dynamics which makes control design difficult. This motivates the research in formulating a novel robust decentralized control strategy. The key idea in the proposed approach is that nonlinearities and interactions between adjunct subsystems are regarded as perturbations, to be estimated by an augmented state observer and rejected in the control loop, therefore making the local control design extremely simple. The proposed decentralized control strategy was implemented on a 3-tension-zone web winding processing line. Simulation results show that the proposed control method leads to much better tension and velocity regulation quality than the existing controller common in industry. Finally, this research tackles the challenging problem of stability analysis. Although ADRC has demonstrated the validity and advantage in many applications, the rigorous stability study has not been fully addressed previously. To this end, stability characterization of ADRC is carried out in this work.     Partial differential equations, integral, differential, or other equations describe multi-motor automatic electric drive systems containing elastic conveyor belts. Because of the elastic and distributive nature of the system parameters, the transfer function describing them is often a complex expression, containing not only the arguments as a linear system but also the inertial and transcendental components. This makes the precise control of tension and speed synchronously much more complicated than the centralized parameter system. A promising numerical solution based on the real interpolation method will simplify the procedure for synthesizing control loops while preserving the characteristic properties of objects with distributed parameters. The objective of the study is to propose a feasible solution for synthesizing the regulators based on the real interpolation method; it allows direct operation with the original transfer function containing the inertial and transcendental components. In this paper, we proposed an approach to synthesize the control system for objects with distributed parameters using the real interpolation method to reduce computational capacity and synthesis error while preserving the properties of this object class. Building an experimental model of the two-motor electric drive system containing an elastic conveyor to verify the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm. The simulation and experimental results indicate that the control system with the received regulators operating stably and meets the required quality criteria. It proves the efficiency of the synthesis algorithm based on the real interpolation method.Introducción: los sistemas de accionamiento eléctrico multimotor que incluyen transportadores elásticos son un ejemplo de sistemas típicos con parámetros distribuidos descritos por ecuaciones complejas. Debido a la naturaleza elástica y distributiva de los parámetros del sistema, la función de transferencia que los describe suele ser una expresión compleja que contiene los componentes inercial y trascendental. Problema: la naturaleza elástica y distributiva de los parámetros del sistema hace que el control preciso de la tensión y la velocidad sincrónicamente sea mucho más complicado que el sistema de parámetros centralizados. Metodología: se propone una solución numérica para sintetizar los reguladores basada en el método de interpolación real para reducir la capacidad computacional y el error de síntesis preservando las propiedades características de los objetos con parámetros distribuidos. Conclusión: la eficacia del algoritmo propuesto se verifica mediante un modelo experimental del sistema de accionamiento eléctrico de dos motores que contiene un transportador elástico. Los resultados de simulación y experimentales indican que el sistema de control con los reguladores recibidos opera de manera estable y cumple con los criterios de calidad requeridos. Originalidad: los resultados de la investigación se pueden aplicar en el desarrollo de sistemas centrales de control y monitoreo para líneas de producción automáticas con sistemas de accionamiento multimotor que incluyen transportadores

    Precision Control of a Sensorless Brushless Direct Current Motor System

    Sensorless control strategies were first suggested well over a decade ago with the aim of reducing the size, weight and unit cost of electrically actuated servo systems. The resulting algorithms have been successfully applied to the induction and synchronous motor families in applications where control of armature speeds above approximately one hundred revolutions per minute is desired. However, sensorless position control remains problematic. This thesis provides an in depth investigation into sensorless motor control strategies for high precision motion control applications. Specifically, methods of achieving control of position and very low speed thresholds are investigated. The developed grey box identification techniques are shown to perform better than their traditional white or black box counterparts. Further, fuzzy model based sliding mode control is implemented and results demonstrate its improved robustness to certain classes of disturbance. Attempts to reject uncertainty within the developed models using the sliding mode are discussed. Novel controllers, which enhance the performance of the sliding mode are presented. Finally, algorithms that achieve control without a primary feedback sensor are successfully demonstrated. Sensorless position control is achieved with resolutions equivalent to those of existing stepper motor technology. The successful control of armature speeds below sixty revolutions per minute is achieved and problems typically associated with motor starting are circumvented.Research Instruments Ltd

    Control of variable reluctance machine (8/6) by artificiel intelligence techniques

    The non-linearity of variable-Reluctance Machine (8/6) and the dependence of machine inductance on rotor position and applied current complicate the development of the control strategies of drives using variable-Reluctance Machine variable-Reluctance Machine (VRM). The classical-control algorithms for example of derived full proportional action may prove sufficient if the requirements on the accuracy and performance of systems are not too strict. In the opposite case and particularly when the controlled part is submitted to strong nonlinearity and to temporal variations, control techniques must be designed which ensure the robustness of the process with respect to the uncertainties on the parameters and their variations. These techniques include artificial-intelligence-based techniques constituted of neural networks and fuzzy logic. This technique has the ability to replace PID regulators by nonlinear ones using the human brain’s reasoning and functioning and is simulated by using MATLAB/Simulink software.
