Algorithms for adaptive control of two-arm flexible manipulators under uncertainty
A nonlinear extension of model reference adaptive control (MRAC) technique is used to guide a double arm nonlinearizable robot manipulator with flexible links, driven by actuators collocated with joints subject to uncertain payload and inertia. The objective is to track a given simple linear and rigid but compatible dynamical model in real, possible stipulated time and within stipulated degree of accuracy of convergence while avoiding collision of the arms. The objective is attained by a specified signal adaptive feedback controller and by adaptive laws, both given in closed form. A case of 4 DOF manipulator illustrates the technique
Fuzzy logic control of telerobot manipulators
Telerobot systems for advanced applications will require manipulators with redundant 'degrees of freedom' (DOF) that are capable of adapting manipulator configurations to avoid obstacles while achieving the user specified goal. Conventional methods for control of manipulators (based on solution of the inverse kinematics) cannot be easily extended to these situations. Fuzzy logic control offers a possible solution to these needs. A current research program at SRI developed a fuzzy logic controller for a redundant, 4 DOF, planar manipulator. The manipulator end point trajectory can be specified by either a computer program (robot mode) or by manual input (teleoperator). The approach used expresses end-point error and the location of manipulator joints as fuzzy variables. Joint motions are determined by a fuzzy rule set without requiring solution of the inverse kinematics. Additional rules for sensor data, obstacle avoidance and preferred manipulator configuration, e.g., 'righty' or 'lefty', are easily accommodated. The procedure used to generate the fuzzy rules can be extended to higher DOF systems
Design of an adaptive controller for a telerobot manipulator
The design of a joint-space adaptive control scheme is presented for controlling the slave arm motion of a dual-arm telerobot system developed at Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC) to study telerobotic operations in space. Each slave arm of the dual-arm system is a kinematically redundant manipulator with 7 degrees of freedom (DOF). Using the concept of model reference adaptive control (MRAC) and Lyapunov direct method, an adatation algorithm is derived which adjusts the PD controller gains of the control scheme. The development of the adaptive control scheme assumes that the slave arm motion is non-compliant and slowly-varying. The implementation of the derived control scheme does not need the computation of the manipulator dynamics, which makes the control scheme sufficiently fast for real-time applications. Computer simulation study performed for the 7-DOF slave arm shows that the developed control scheme can efficiently adapt to sudden change in payloads while tracking various test trajectories such as ramp or sinusoids with negligible position errors
Active Inference for Integrated State-Estimation, Control, and Learning
This work presents an approach for control, state-estimation and learning
model (hyper)parameters for robotic manipulators. It is based on the active
inference framework, prominent in computational neuroscience as a theory of the
brain, where behaviour arises from minimizing variational free-energy. The
robotic manipulator shows adaptive and robust behaviour compared to
state-of-the-art methods. Additionally, we show the exact relationship to
classic methods such as PID control. Finally, we show that by learning a
temporal parameter and model variances, our approach can deal with unmodelled
dynamics, damps oscillations, and is robust against disturbances and poor
initial parameters. The approach is validated on the `Franka Emika Panda' 7 DoF
manipulator.Comment: 7 pages, 6 figures, accepted for presentation at the International
