The mission operations planning assistant
The Mission Operations Planning Assistant (MOPA) is a knowledge-based system developed to support the planning and scheduling of instrument activities on the Upper Atmospheric Research Satellite (UARS). The MOPA system represents and maintains instrument plans at two levels of abstraction in order to keep plans comprehensible to both UARS Prinicpal Investigators and Command Management personnel. The hierarchical representation of plans also allows MOPA to automatically create detailed instrument activity plans from which spacecraft command loads may be generated. The MOPA system was developed on a Symbolics 3640 computer using the ZETALISP and ART languages. MOPA's features include a textual and graphical interface for plan inspection and modification, recognition of instrument operational constraint violations during the planning process, and consistency maintenance between the different planning levels. Activity recognition from videos with parallel hypergraph matching on GPUs
In this paper, we propose a method for activity recognition from videos based
on sparse local features and hypergraph matching. We benefit from special
properties of the temporal domain in the data to derive a sequential and fast
graph matching algorithm for GPUs.
Traditionally, graphs and hypergraphs are frequently used to recognize
complex and often non-rigid patterns in computer vision, either through graph
matching or point-set matching with graphs. Most formulations resort to the
minimization of a difficult discrete energy function mixing geometric or
structural terms with data attached terms involving appearance features.
Traditional methods solve this minimization problem approximately, for instance
with spectral techniques.
In this work, instead of solving the problem approximatively, the exact
solution for the optimal assignment is calculated in parallel on GPUs. The
graphical structure is simplified and regularized, which allows to derive an
efficient recursive minimization algorithm. The algorithm distributes
subproblems over the calculation units of a GPU, which solves them in parallel,
allowing the system to run faster than real-time on medium-end GPUs
Latent Embeddings for Collective Activity Recognition
Rather than simply recognizing the action of a person individually,
collective activity recognition aims to find out what a group of people is
acting in a collective scene. Previ- ous state-of-the-art methods using
hand-crafted potentials in conventional graphical model which can only define a
limited range of relations. Thus, the complex structural de- pendencies among
individuals involved in a collective sce- nario cannot be fully modeled. In
this paper, we overcome these limitations by embedding latent variables into
feature space and learning the feature mapping functions in a deep learning
framework. The embeddings of latent variables build a global relation
containing person-group interac- tions and richer contextual information by
jointly modeling broader range of individuals. Besides, we assemble atten- tion
mechanism during embedding for achieving more com- pact representations. We
evaluate our method on three col- lective activity datasets, where we
contribute a much larger dataset in this work. The proposed model has achieved
clearly better performance as compared to the state-of-the- art methods in our
