Acting and being aware
One often assumes that we, rational human beings, first think and than act. This paper is an attempt to describe the mental characteristics governing the performance of regular everyday actions; and shows that no mental act has to precede our actions, instead of consciously thinking before we act, we mostly act while simultaneously overseeing our acting. The case of ball juggling is used to underpin the analysis with practical facts
Hyperbolic groups acting improperly
In this paper we study hyperbolic groups acting on CAT(0) cube complexes. The
first main result (Theorem A) is a structural result about the Sageev
construction, in which we relate quasi-convexity of hyperplane stabilizers with
quasi-convexity of cell stabilizers. The second main result (Theorem D)
generalizes both Agol's theorem on cubulated hyperbolic groups and Wise's
Quasi-convex Hierarchy Theorem.Comment: 52pp. In v3, some unnecessary assumptions are dropped from some
technical results, especially in Section 5 and Corollary 6.5. The main
results are unchanged, but the improved technical results are expected to be
useful in future work. Several other small improvements to the exposition
have been mad

Product groups acting on manifolds
We analyse volume-preserving actions of product groups on Riemannian
manifolds. To this end, we establish a new superrigidity theorem for ergodic
cocycles of product groups ranging in linear groups. There are no a priori
assumptions on the acting groups, except a spectral gap assumption on their
action.
Our main application to manifolds concerns irreducible actions of Kazhdan
product groups. We prove the following dichotomy: Either the action is
infinitesimally linear, which means that the derivative cocycle arises from
unbounded linear representations of all factors. Otherwise, the action is
measurably isometric, in which case there are at most two factors in the
product group.
As a first application, this provides lower bounds on the dimension of the
manifold in terms of the number of factors in the acting group. Another
application is a strong restriction for actions of non-linear groups.Comment: To appear in the Duke Mathematical Journal; 32 pages. Minor
revisions, including the addition of a variation on Theorem
Dual acting slit control mechanism
A dual acting control system for mass spectrometers is described, which permits adjustment of the collimating slit width and centering of the collimating slit while using only one vacuum penetration. Coaxial shafts, each with independent vacuum bellows are used to independently move the entire collimating assembly or to adjust the slit dimension through a parallelogram linkage
Administration of Long-Acting Injections
Expanding the scope of pharmacy practice demonstrates that the profession has been successful at improving public health. Despite being a late adopter, New York\u27s limited experience with vaccines has improved immunization rates and lowered rates of disease. During emergencies, the 2017-2018 flu season for example, the state has turned to pharmacists to go beyond what the pharmacy practice law permits, in this case enabling immunizations in pediatric patients.1 This illustrates recognition of untapped potential within the profession to contribute to the public health. Another opportunity for pharmacists to enhance the public health is embodied in a Bill introduced in the New York State Legislature that would amend the pharmacy practice law to enable administration of long-acting injectables designed to treat mental health disorders including schizophrenia and substance use disorder ( SUD ). The goal of this paper is to review the proposed amendment, the relevant background, and to discuss the implications for patients and the pharmacy profession
