Multi-scale 3D Convolution Network for Video Based Person Re-Identification
This paper proposes a two-stream convolution network to extract spatial and
temporal cues for video based person Re-Identification (ReID). A temporal
stream in this network is constructed by inserting several Multi-scale 3D (M3D)
convolution layers into a 2D CNN network. The resulting M3D convolution network
introduces a fraction of parameters into the 2D CNN, but gains the ability of
multi-scale temporal feature learning. With this compact architecture, M3D
convolution network is also more efficient and easier to optimize than existing
3D convolution networks. The temporal stream further involves Residual
Attention Layers (RAL) to refine the temporal features. By jointly learning
spatial-temporal attention masks in a residual manner, RAL identifies the
discriminative spatial regions and temporal cues. The other stream in our
network is implemented with a 2D CNN for spatial feature extraction. The
spatial and temporal features from two streams are finally fused for the video
based person ReID. Evaluations on three widely used benchmarks datasets, i.e.,
MARS, PRID2011, and iLIDS-VID demonstrate the substantial advantages of our
method over existing 3D convolution networks and state-of-art methods.Comment: AAAI, 201
Learning Blind Motion Deblurring
As handheld video cameras are now commonplace and available in every
smartphone, images and videos can be recorded almost everywhere at anytime.
However, taking a quick shot frequently yields a blurry result due to unwanted
camera shake during recording or moving objects in the scene. Removing these
artifacts from the blurry recordings is a highly ill-posed problem as neither
the sharp image nor the motion blur kernel is known. Propagating information
between multiple consecutive blurry observations can help restore the desired
sharp image or video. Solutions for blind deconvolution based on neural
networks rely on a massive amount of ground-truth data which is hard to
acquire. In this work, we propose an efficient approach to produce a
significant amount of realistic training data and introduce a novel recurrent
network architecture to deblur frames taking temporal information into account,
which can efficiently handle arbitrary spatial and temporal input sizes. We
demonstrate the versatility of our approach in a comprehensive comparison on a
number of challening real-world examples.Comment: International Conference on Computer Vision (ICCV) (2017

Developmental Stages of Perception and Language Acquisition in a Perceptually Grounded Robot
The objective of this research is to develop a system for language learning based on a minimum of pre-wired language-specific functionality, that is compatible with observations of perceptual and language capabilities in the human developmental trajectory. In the proposed system, meaning (in terms of descriptions of events and spatial relations) is extracted from video images based on detection of position, motion, physical contact and their parameters. Mapping of sentence form to meaning is performed by learning grammatical constructions that are retrieved from a construction inventory based on the constellation of closed class items uniquely identifying the target sentence structure. The resulting system displays robust acquisition behavior that reproduces certain observations from developmental studies, with very modest “innate” language specificity
