Introduction Human Immunodeficiency Virus Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome HIV AIDS has become increasingly public health problem worldwide Particularly in developing countries higher institutions like Ethiopia The victims are youngsters productive age of the population The primary prevention and control of the spread of HIV AIDS infection is through awareness and changing behavior remains at the highest priority However few studies have been conducted among university students of Ethiopia on their self-efficacy of Human Immunodeficiency Virus Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome prevention and control Hence this research was intended to investigate the Knowledge and self-efficacy of Madda Walabu University Undergraduate Students on HIV AIDS Methods An institutional-based cross-sectional the study design was conducted among 605 under graduate students of MaddaWalabu University students were selected using random sampling and data were collected using by structured self-administered questionnaire Descriptive independent sample t-test and ANOVA were computed to analyze the data Result This study result shows that among the total study participants majority of the students 81 3 has ever experienced sexual relationship Nearly half 52 4 of the students use condom during sexual intercourse consistently About half 49 37 of them had moderate level of knowledge regarding Human Immunodeficiency Virus Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome infection and of which only 28 4 of them had regular sexual partner Students level of knowledge regarding Human Immunodeficiency Virus Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome significantly predictor of their level of self-efficacy and condom use R 0 445 and R2 0 198 Conclusion The knowledge students have on human immunodeficiency virus acquired immune deficiency syndrome significantly predicts self-efficacy of protecting oneself from HIV AIDS Most students at the age of adolescence habit sexual intercour

Finding the Fit: A Review of Three Intervention Models for Working with HIV/AIDS Impacted Substance Users who are Homeless

This report reflects research on three different models of services for people living with Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) or Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS) who are also low-income, substance users and are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless. This review of intervention modalities is intended to document what is being done in Chicago to serve this population, illuminate what is known about outcomes for those receiving services and suggest areas for further investigation

Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS) is an infectious disease that attacks the body immune system. It is hard to protect the body when infected with this virus. Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS) is caused by Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV). Riskesda data in 2019 stated that HIV/AIDS cases tend to increase year by year in the male group rather than women. Of the total HIV/AIDS cases, 65% are men and 35% are women. In addition, AIDS infects mostly men (69%) and only 31% of women. This virus also infects people of productive age on average 25-49 years old. Keywords: Risk factors, HIV/AID

Challenges if HIV Treatment in Resource-Poor Countries: A Review

Background: The human immunodeficiency virus/acquired immunodeficiency syndrome pandemic have posed a significant public health challenge to the global community. Massive therapeutic interventions with antiretroviral drugs are being undertaken, yet problems and challenges exist. This review examines these problems and challenges as they affect the treatment of HIV infection in resource-poor countries such as Nigeria. Methods: The information was sourced from relevant literature using human immunodeficiency virus/acquired immunodeficiency syndrome journals, textbooks and Websites on human immunodeficiency virus/acquired immunodeficiency syndrome, highly active antiretroviral therapy, resource-poor countries as key words. Results: Several studies have shown that the advent of highly active antiretroviral therapy in 1996 has significantly reduced morbidity and mortality among people living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA). But in resourcepoor countries, initiation and maintenance of highly active antiretroviral therapy has been associated with many challenges and problems such as: poor infrastructural base for the control programs; irregular or non availability of drugs; poor drug adherence; co-morbidities and opportunistic infections/malignancies; drug toxicities; drug/food and drug/drug interactions; laboratory monitoring of viral load; CD4 cell counts; full blood counts; electrolytes, kidney and liver functions. Conclusion: The review has shown that the solution to the pandemic lies in a multi-sectoral and holistic approach involving International and local agencies, and communities

Raising awareness of non-hodgkin lymphoma in HIV-infected adolescents: Report of 2 cases in the HAART era

    Get PDF
Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) chronically infected patients are at increased risk of developing non-Hodgkin lymphoma compared with the general population. Highly active antiretroviral therapy has had a dramatic effect on the natural history of HIV infection, reducing the incidence of acquired immunodeficiency syndrome-related non-Hodgkin lymphoma and improving overall survival. However, problems related to adherence to treatment, frequently experienced during adolescence, may increase the risk of acquired immunodeficiency syndrome-related cancers. Optimizing highly active antiretroviral therapy and monitoring noncompliant patients with persisting HIV replication should be considered by physicians who take care of these patients. We herein report 2 cases of relapsed/progressive Burkitt lymphoma in HIV vertically infected adolescents
