A Systematic Approach for Interference Alignment in CSIT-less Relay-Aided X-Networks

The degrees of freedom (DoF) of an X-network with M transmit and N receive nodes utilizing interference alignment with the support of JJ relays each equipped with LjL_j antennas operating in a half-duplex non-regenerative mode is investigated. Conditions on the feasibility of interference alignment are derived using a proper transmit strategy and a structured approach based on a Kronecker-product representation. The advantages of this approach are twofold: First, it extends existing results on the achievable DoF to generalized antenna configurations. Second, it unifies the analysis for time-varying and constant channels and provides valuable insights and interconnections between the two channel models. It turns out that a DoF of \nicefrac{NM}{M+N-1} is feasible whenever the sum of the Lj2β‰₯[Nβˆ’1][Mβˆ’1]L_j^2 \geq [N-1][M-1]

The final version is available from IEEE via the DOI in this recordIEEE We investigate the achievable sum degrees of freedom (DoF) in a class of single-antenna multi-user multi-hop relay networks. The networks consist of multiple information sources and destinations, without direct signal propagation link between them, so that multiple layers of relays are deployed to assist in information delivery. We consider the situation that relays are unable to shield their receptions from the harmful selfinterference and from the interference generated by other relays. Hence ideal full-duplex relaying is not applicable. Utilizing halfduplex decode-and-forward relays, a cluster successive relaying (CSR) transmission scheme is adopted to conduct message transmission. The CSR scheme divides each layer of relays into two successively activated relay clusters to compensate the extra channel consumption demanded by the half-duplex operation. We propose two interference alignment strategies to deal with the interference issues. By properly clustering the relays in each layer, we find the asymptotically achievable sum DoF, subject to time-varying and frequency-selective fading respectively. These results can lead to new lower bounds for the available DoF in the considered class of multi-user multi-hop networks. This work was funded in part by the National Natural Science Foundation of China (61771343 and 61331009), the EU Horizon 2020 Programme Marie Sklodowska-Curie Individual Fellowship (H2020-MSCA-IF-2016-752979), and the EU PF7 QUICK project (PIRESES-GA-2013-612652)

This is the author accepted manuscript. The final version is available from IEEE via the DOI in this recordThis paper investigates the achievable sum degrees of freedom (DoF) in a wireless single-antenna multi-user relay network, which consists of multiple sources, multiple destinations, and multiple layers of half-duplex relays in between. A cluster successive relaying (CSR) transmission scheme is applied to efficiently deliver information in this network. Different from existing works on the CSR scheme which normally divide each layer of relays into two alternatively activated equal-size clusters, we allow the clusters to contain different numbers of terminals in order to properly involve all available relays into the transmission process. Using the channel-extension based interference alignment technique, it is shown that the asymptotically achievable sum DoF can be larger than the previously known results and hence can serve as a new lower bound to the optimally achievable sum DoF in the considered relay network.National Natural Science Foundation of ChinaEuropean Union Horizon 2020European Union FP

Degrees of Freedom of Full-Duplex Multiantenna Cellular Networks

We study the degrees of freedom (DoF) of cellular networks in which a full duplex (FD) base station (BS) equipped with multiple transmit and receive antennas communicates with multiple mobile users. We consider two different scenarios. In the first scenario, we study the case when half duplex (HD) users, partitioned to either the uplink (UL) set or the downlink (DL) set, simultaneously communicate with the FD BS. In the second scenario, we study the case when FD users simultaneously communicate UL and DL data with the FD BS. Unlike conventional HD only systems, inter-user interference (within the cell) may severely limit the DoF, and must be carefully taken into account. With the goal of providing theoretical guidelines for designing such FD systems, we completely characterize the sum DoF of each of the two different FD cellular networks by developing an achievable scheme and obtaining a matching upper bound. The key idea of the proposed scheme is to carefully allocate UL and DL information streams using interference alignment and beamforming techniques. By comparing the DoFs of the considered FD systems with those of the conventional HD systems, we establish the DoF gain by enabling FD operation in various configurations. As a consequence of the result, we show that the DoF can approach the two-fold gain over the HD systems when the number of users becomes large enough as compared to the number of antennas at the BS.Comment: 21 pages, 16 figures, a shorter version of this paper has been submitted to the IEEE International Symposium on Information Theory (ISIT) 201
