Advances in Lasers for the Treatment of Stones-a Systematic Review
PURPOSE OF REVIEW:
Laser lithotripsy is increasingly used worldwide and is a continuously evolving field with new and extensive research being published every year.
RECENT FINDINGS:
Variable pulse length Ho:YAG lithotripters allow new lithotripsy parameters to be manipulated, and there is an effort to integrate new technologies into lithotripters. Pulsed thulium lasers seem to be a viable alternative to holmium lasers. The performance of similar laser fibers varies from manufacturer to manufacturer. Special laser fibers and "cleaving only" fiber tip preparation can be beneficial for the lithotripsy procedure. Different laser settings and the surgical technique employed can have significant impact on the success of laser lithotripsy. When safely done, complications of laser lithotripsy are rare and concern the endoscopic nature of procedure, not the technology itself, making laser lithotripsy one of the safest tools in urology. Laser lithotripsy has had several new developments and more insight has been gained in recent years with many more advances expected in the future.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
Advances and applications of automata on words and trees : abstracts collection
From 12.12.2010 to 17.12.2010, the Dagstuhl Seminar 10501 "Advances and Applications of Automata on Words and Trees" was held in Schloss Dagstuhl - Leibniz Center for Informatics. During the seminar, several participants presented their current research, and ongoing work and open problems were discussed. Abstracts of the presentations given during the seminar as well as abstracts of seminar results and ideas are put together in this paper. The first section describes the seminar topics and goals in general. Links to extended abstracts or full papers are provided, if available
WikiM: Metapaths based Wikification of Scientific Abstracts
In order to disseminate the exponential extent of knowledge being produced in
the form of scientific publications, it would be best to design mechanisms that
connect it with already existing rich repository of concepts -- the Wikipedia.
Not only does it make scientific reading simple and easy (by connecting the
involved concepts used in the scientific articles to their Wikipedia
explanations) but also improves the overall quality of the article. In this
paper, we present a novel metapath based method, WikiM, to efficiently wikify
scientific abstracts -- a topic that has been rarely investigated in the
literature. One of the prime motivations for this work comes from the
observation that, wikified abstracts of scientific documents help a reader to
decide better, in comparison to the plain abstracts, whether (s)he would be
interested to read the full article. We perform mention extraction mostly
through traditional tf-idf measures coupled with a set of smart filters. The
entity linking heavily leverages on the rich citation and author publication
networks. Our observation is that various metapaths defined over these networks
can significantly enhance the overall performance of the system. For mention
extraction and entity linking, we outperform most of the competing
state-of-the-art techniques by a large margin arriving at precision values of
72.42% and 73.8% respectively over a dataset from the ACL Anthology Network. In
order to establish the robustness of our scheme, we wikify three other datasets
and get precision values of 63.41%-94.03% and 67.67%-73.29% respectively for
the mention extraction and the entity linking phase
The Role of Ejecta in the Small Crater Populations on the Mid-Sized Saturnian Satellites
We find evidence that crater ejecta play an important role in the small
crater populations on the Saturnian satellites, and more broadly, on cratered
surfaces throughout the Solar System. We measure crater populations in Cassini
images of Enceladus, Rhea, and Mimas, focusing on image data with scales less
than 500 m/pixel. We use recent updates to crater scaling laws and their
constants to estimate the amount of mass ejected in three different velocity
ranges: (i) greater than escape velocity, (ii) less than escape velocity and
faster than the minimum velocity required to make a secondary crater (v_min),
and (iii) velocities less than v_min. Although the vast majority of mass on
each satellite is ejected at speeds less than v_min, our calculations
demonstrate that the differences in mass available in the other two categories
should lead to observable differences in the small crater populations; the
predictions are borne out by the measurements we have made to date. Rhea,
Tethys, and Dione have sufficient surface gravities to retain ejecta moving
fast enough to make secondary crater populations. The smaller satellites, such
as Enceladus but especially Mimas, are expected to have little or no
traditional secondary populations because their escape velocities are near the
threshold velocity necessary to make a secondary crater. Our work clarifies why
the Galilean satellites have extensive secondary crater populations relative to
the Saturnian satellites. The presence, extent, and sizes of sesquinary craters
(craters formed by ejecta that escape into temporary orbits around Saturn
before re-impacting the surface) is not yet well understood. Finally, our work
provides further evidence for a "shallow" size-frequency distribution (slope
index of ~2 for a differential power-law) for comets a few km diameter and
smaller. [slightly abbreviated]Comment: Submitted to Icarus. 77 double-spaced pages, including 25 figures and

Amino acid sequences of proteins from Leptospira serovar pomona.
Abstracts: This report describes a partial amino acid sequences from three putative outer envelope proteins from Leptospira serovar pomona. In order to obtain internal fragments for protein sequencing, enzymatic and chemical digestion was performed. The enzyme clostripain was used to digest the proteins 32 and 45kDa. In situ digestion of 40kDa molecular weight protein was accomplished using cyanogen bromide. The 32kDa protein generated two fragments, one of 21kDa and another of 10kDa that yielded five residues. A fragment of 24 kDa that yielded nineteen residues of amino acids was obtained from 45 kDa protein. A fragment with a molecular weight of 20 kDa, yielding a twenty amino acids sequence from the 40kDa protein
Engineering polymer informatics: Towards the computer-aided design of polymers
The computer-aided design of polymers is one of the holy grails of modern chemical
informatics and of significant interest for a number of communities in polymer
science. The paper outlines a vision for the in silico design of polymers and presents
an information model for polymers based on modern semantic web technologies, thus
laying the foundations for achieving the vision
Nebelivka: From Magnetic Prospection to New Features of Mega-Sites
The international project at Nebelivka included three
field seasons, funded by grants obtained by Prof. John
Chapman (Durham University, UK).1 The Institute
of Archaeology of NAS Ukraine, for its part, has provided researchers, obtained the necessary permits for
excavations, organized the storage of finds and worked
with them, and worked on the field reports. The Kirovohrad region provided administrative support, plus
cooperation with the Vynnychenko University and the
Kirovohrad Museum of Natural History.
During four seasons at Nebelivka, several objects
were investigated which changed the image of megasites. They were large public buildings (‘megastructure’), fortifications (symbolic ditch or real palisade),
and a kiln (Figure 14). This ‘triad’ marked such wellknown features of urbanization, as monumental
architecture and developed craft, which as some
people still believe, were totally absent in Trypillia
(see, for example, Tolochko, 2015: 32). Magnetic
prospection discovered not only one large building,
but also an impressive system of more than ten
smaller objects, which later became common features
for other mega-sites, like Dobrovody, Petreni, and
Maidanetske. The kiln explored at Nebelivka is now
the earliest of eight similar devices, discovered in
2013–2014 at Trypillia sites in Ukraine. The characteristics of the furnace put a stop to long discussions of whether there was a developed craft economy at large sites or not. Investigations of the households, which included houses and pits, were important for the reconstruction of different aspects of life at the large sites. New data obtained during excavations
in Nebelivka substantially complemented data from
large Trypillia settlements
