In the modern economy, the problems associated with transport logistics (TL) have become important. The strategic goal of the TS is to increase the level of competitiveness of firms in the market, as a result of which, TL is that special direction of the economy, which will contribute to the growth of its level of efficiency and lead to high commercial results. A consistent assessment of the effectiveness of the functioning of the enterprise's TL is a guide to its activities, since the results of the assessment help managers to identify complex components of the system and make optimal management decisions. All this leads to the need to develop assessment mechanisms that will help to calculate the level and degree of efficiency of the TL functioning, because modern assessment methods do not make it possible to identify the integral level of TL efficiency based on the TL efficiency levels. Consequently, the development of a systematic assessment of the effectiveness of TL, based on identifying the levels of efficiency of subsystems, plays a major role in finding its place in the market. A systematic approach to assessing the effectiveness of TL functioning is confirmed by a logistic approach to their management, as well as the properties they own. The significance of the research is confirmed by the fact that the development and improvement of methods for assessing the effectiveness of THB processes in a firm contributes to the implementation of specific use of theoretical provisions in the activities of commercial entities of the Republic of Azerbaijan. In the modern economy, the problems associated with transport logistics (TL) have become important. Only recently has the inequity among territories in terms of infrastructures and logistics services for freight transport become the subject of several studies regarding measurement and assessment of operational functionality and correspondence of supply for real mobility needs. The efficiency and competitiveness of territories are features that may be analysed through various parametric-type and non-parametric-type methodologies and with the construction of composite indicators. In reviewing recent literature, this article tackles the theme of measurement and assessment of the logistics and infrastructure divide with reference to the search for greater logistic efficiency and territorial competitiveness, in function of the specificities of local production systems and pursuable models of development in the global context. The purpose of this paper is twofold: to review the prevailing methods used to estimate regional efficiency and logistics competitiveness and to focus on an Italian case study. Focusing on the application of an original composite index to the Italian case study, the main insight of our analysis is that composite indicators could help policy-makers to evaluate the requirements of infrastructural interventions and logistics services, in close keeping with the characteristics of the local economic system

Transport and logistic complex of the country in the conditions of economic restructuring: Macroeconomic approaches to the analysis of efficiency

In the condition of economic restructuring of the national territorial systems the role and features of transport and logistic complex operation are significantly changing. In its turn the complex greatly impacts the economy development and determines the opportunities, trends and intensity of the national economy transformation. The optimization of transport and logistics should be targeted, timely and rational as their role in economic and social development is significant. Also plans for strategic and spatial development should be considered. To develop the transport and logistic complex successfully a comprehensive system of indicators that is able to estimate the complex activity, importance and the optimization process trend efficiently is necessary. For this purpose macroeconomic methods have been suggested in the article and an indicative system of indicators for the assessment of the transport and logistic complex operation efficiency has been developed. The development and efficiency of the transport and logistic complex operation is estimated by the system of macroeconomic indicators based on the comparison of individual components of the system of the national accounts for the economy as a whole and for the transport and logistic complex in particular, and also on the basis of analysis of the natural indicators characterizing the performance of the transport complex. Retrospective series from 2002 to 2016 have been taken as a temporal term. The research is based on statistical and comparative analysis. The novelty of the original study is the developed and reasonable macroeconomic approaches to the assessment of the efficiency of transport and logistic complex operation in the country and in macroregions. The role of the transport and logistic complex in the added value formation and in the intermediate consumption has been specified in the article. A more detailed macroeconomic analysis of transport and logistic complex operation efficiency in Russia, the USA, Germany and China has been made. During the study we have revealed that in Russia when the range of transported goods and passengers is reduced, the goods transportation and passenger costs, expressed in intermediate consumption and partly in the added value of the transport and logistics complex, increase significantly, especially in comparison with other countries. The research results may be used as a basis for the development of measures and mechanisms for transport and logistic complex operation optimization, as well as for the monitoring of its efficiency and the efficient decision making. Further research will concern the functioning of certain categories of transport activities, as well as the flows of intermediate products and added value for individual economic sectors and activities

Purpose: This article is aimed at identifying and evaluating the quality and safety indicators of processes in the logistics system and solving the problems of product control in the goods’ distribution process. Design/Methodology/Approach: In order to assess the risks and quality of control methods in the goods’ distribution processes, studies were carried out in the process of grain supply, on which the risk assessment was tested using the fault tree using a qualitative approach with a deductive logic, which allowed to identify events at the lower levels of the system. To evaluate the results when comparing various methods of monitoring the characteristics of products in the product distribution process certain statistical tools were used. The evaluation with comparative tests is required in order to determine the way of measuring products in the goods distribution logistics system. The study uses the methods of formalization, analysis, measurement, experimental and comparison. Findings: The considered risk assessment method and the given example allow us to recommend its use for the product distribution processes for various purposes. A technique is proposed for comparing various control methods based on statistical tools that can be recommended for various goods’ distribution operations. Practical implications: The results of the study can be applied in practice to improve the quality of goods’ distribution processes and reduce risks in the various supply chains. Originality/value: The main contribution of this study is to shift the emphasis on the assessment of processes in goods’ distribution to the positions of a risk-based approach and the use of various statistical tools in logistics’ activities.peer-reviewe

The data chase : what's out there on trade costs and nontariff barriers ?

Trade costs and nontariff barriers are at the forefront of discussions on competitiveness and expanding trade opportunities for developing countries. This paper provides a summary overview of data and indicators relevant to these issues and has been informed by work underway at the World Bank on trade facilitation over the past several years to catalogue data sets and indicators. Although there has been progress in expanding data sets and developing policy-relevant indicators on trade costs and barriers, much more is needed. In order to assess progress toward achieving the Millennium Development Goals, evaluating the impact of development projects, and whether meeting Aid for Trade goals will be met, for example, a dedicated and expansive new effort to collect and assess data is needed. This paper attempts to highlight gaps in data on trade costs and provides insight into the type of new data that might be developed in the future.Transport Economics Policy&Planning,Economic Theory&Research,Trade Law,Free Trade,Trade Policy

    Sustainable inland transportation

    Get PDF
Inland navigation is often mentioned as a ‘green’ alternative for the two other main inland transport modes: rail and road transport. In order to investigate the opportunities for inland navigation we first analyze the competitive position of inland navigation vis-àvis the other main inland transport modes. For that, we perform a comparative study on the current sustainability performance of the three modes. Second, through a case study, we analyze a recent initiative for sustainable innovation of inland navigation in order to assess the barriers and opportunities for improving the competitive position of sustainable inland navigation

    Get PDF
[Abstract]: The objective of this paper is to try to evaluate the port-city relationship from its onset, taking into account the challenges of port 4.0. Indicators such as the percentage of employees participating in training programs, the percentage of female employees in Galician ports, the percentage of merchandise moved by private operators and the percentage of companies with quality certification in Galician ports are evaluated. The fourth revolution is based on the transition from current fossil fuel-based energy models to alternative energy sources, changes in the logistics and transport parameters and finally, on the elimination of intermediation. The key component of the third pillar of new Economy 4.0 is complete digitalization. The optimum port-city solution must address the need of both the urban planner and the port manager to evaluate potential measures that would alleviate the pressure of dedicated port facilities on the city and vice versa to the greatest extent possible
