    An improved cell controller for the aerospace manufacturing

    Get PDF
    The aerospace manufacturing industry is unique in that production typically focuses on high variety and quality but low volume. Existing flexible manufacturing cells are limited to certain types of machines, robots and cells which makes it difficult to introduce any changes. In this paper idea of treating machines, robots, any hardware and software as resource has been introduced. It describes the development of the Flexa Cell Coordinator (FCC), a system that is providing a solution to manage cells and their resources in a new flexible manner. It can control, organise and coordinate between cells and resources and is capable of controlling remote cells because of its distributed nature. It also provides connectivity with company systems e.g., Enterprise Resource Planner (ERP). It is extendable and capable of adding multiple cells inside the system. In FCC resources (e.g., tracker) can also be shared between cells. The paper presents its development and results of initial successful testing

    Performing Hybrid Recommendation in Intermodal Transportation – the FTMarket System’s Recommendation Module

    Get PDF
    Diverse recommendation techniques have been already proposed and encapsulated into several e-business applications, aiming to perform a more accurate evaluation of the existing information and accordingly augment the assistance provided to the users involved. This paper reports on the development and integration of a recommendation module in an agent-based transportation transactions management system. The module is built according to a novel hybrid recommendation technique, which combines the advantages of collaborative filtering and knowledge-based approaches. The proposed technique and supporting module assist customers in considering in detail alternative transportation transactions that satisfy their requests, as well as in evaluating completed transactions. The related services are invoked through a software agent that constructs the appropriate knowledge rules and performs a synthesis of the recommendation policy

    Redesigning work organizations and technologies: experiences from European projects

    Currently distributed business process (re) design (resulting in components of business networks) basically relies on technical criteria. And that are the main purposes of most research projects supported by EC. Through the process of building a European Research Area, this means a strong influence in the national research programmes. However it is generally accepted that it should also take into account social criteria and aspects such as the quality of working life, or participation in decision processes. Those were some of the objectives of projects in de 80s decade, and framed some of the main concepts and scientific approaches to work organisation. The democratic participation of network and organisations members in the design process is a critical success factor. This is not accepted by everyone, but is based in sufficient case studies. Nevertheless, in order to achieve an optimization that can satisfying the requirements of agility of a network of enterprises, more complex design methods must be developed. Thus, the support to the collaborative design of distributed work in a network of enterprises, through a concurrent approaching business processes, work organisation and task content is a key factor to achieve such purposes. Increasing needs in terms of amounts of information, agility, and support for collaboration without time and space constrains, imposes the use of a computer-based model.business process; networks; decision processes; collaborative design;

    Approaching delivery as a service

    Get PDF
    This paper explores the new logistics business model of Delivery as a Service, a concept aiming at a more efficient, fast and customer-oriented practice, linking IT solution development, urban logistics operations, supply chain efficiency and new business models. Delivery as a Service (DaaS) is defined as a service-oriented delivery and business processes in line with customer expectations and needs in the on-demand economy. The approach of this paper is an industry report based on evidence collected in multiple exploratory European projects integrating ambitious and strategic findings on Internet of Things, urban planning, consolidation centres, transport optimisation, and clean vehicle use. It contributes to a future scenario of urban logistics business models

    Improving Data Efficiency Using Content Management System

    This project has been carried out to identify major problems in a website like look and feel of the web pages, branding qualities, website search engine compatibility and identifying/tracking the status of the pages. To achieve this, Responsive Web Design (RWD) concepts, Web Analytics, HTML (Hyper Text Markup Language) tags are implemented for sophisticated performance and adaptability. It’s very essential to have a well-organized and dynamic website. Website should be more professional to gain the fruitful outcomes. Website related content was updated dynamically through admin console using Content Management System (CMS). Admin / content manager / targeted preferred credential users could more effectively update the content via this Content Management System (CMS) web tool and was very easy to maintain huge content in a very effective way. There are many ways to achieve this, have many content driven tools and web-pages which do this job without any extra effort. The major benefit of this tool was even a nontechnical person could easily update or manage the webpage without any technical training. In today’s market, most of the data is written and deployed using small / medium form factors like mobiles or tablet devices. Users easily update the data while on the go. The content of the website could be effortlessly managed even by a non-technical person quickly and easily without any complicated programming. The website automatically spreads to fit mobiles, tablets and any browser windows using CMS. Using Agile Methodology, the project quality was improved in most effective way. Data was collected and analyzed using different tools and techniques
