Algorithms for outerplanar graph roots and graph roots of pathwidth at most 2
Deciding whether a given graph has a square root is a classical problem that
has been studied extensively both from graph theoretic and from algorithmic
perspectives. The problem is NP-complete in general, and consequently
substantial effort has been dedicated to deciding whether a given graph has a
square root that belongs to a particular graph class. There are both
polynomial-time solvable and NP-complete cases, depending on the graph class.
We contribute with new results in this direction. Given an arbitrary input
graph G, we give polynomial-time algorithms to decide whether G has an
outerplanar square root, and whether G has a square root that is of pathwidth
at most 2
Finding cactus roots in polynomial time
A cactus is a connected graph in which each edge belongs to at most one cycle. A graph H is a cactus root of a graph G if H is a cactus and G can be obtained from H by adding an edge between any two vertices in H that are of distance 2 in H. We show that it is possible to test in O(n4)O(n4) time whether an n-vertex graph G has a cactus root
CORe50: a New Dataset and Benchmark for Continuous Object Recognition
Continuous/Lifelong learning of high-dimensional data streams is a
challenging research problem. In fact, fully retraining models each time new
data become available is infeasible, due to computational and storage issues,
while na\"ive incremental strategies have been shown to suffer from
catastrophic forgetting. In the context of real-world object recognition
applications (e.g., robotic vision), where continuous learning is crucial, very
few datasets and benchmarks are available to evaluate and compare emerging
techniques. In this work we propose a new dataset and benchmark CORe50,
specifically designed for continuous object recognition, and introduce baseline
approaches for different continuous learning scenarios
Pedestrian Attribute Recognition: A Survey
Recognizing pedestrian attributes is an important task in computer vision
community due to it plays an important role in video surveillance. Many
algorithms has been proposed to handle this task. The goal of this paper is to
review existing works using traditional methods or based on deep learning
networks. Firstly, we introduce the background of pedestrian attributes
recognition (PAR, for short), including the fundamental concepts of pedestrian
attributes and corresponding challenges. Secondly, we introduce existing
benchmarks, including popular datasets and evaluation criterion. Thirdly, we
analyse the concept of multi-task learning and multi-label learning, and also
explain the relations between these two learning algorithms and pedestrian
attribute recognition. We also review some popular network architectures which
have widely applied in the deep learning community. Fourthly, we analyse
popular solutions for this task, such as attributes group, part-based,
\emph{etc}. Fifthly, we shown some applications which takes pedestrian
attributes into consideration and achieve better performance. Finally, we
summarized this paper and give several possible research directions for

An Iterative Receiver for OFDM With Sparsity-Based Parametric Channel Estimation
In this work we design a receiver that iteratively passes soft information
between the channel estimation and data decoding stages. The receiver
incorporates sparsity-based parametric channel estimation. State-of-the-art
sparsity-based iterative receivers simplify the channel estimation problem by
restricting the multipath delays to a grid. Our receiver does not impose such a
restriction. As a result it does not suffer from the leakage effect, which
destroys sparsity. Communication at near capacity rates in high SNR requires a
large modulation order. Due to the close proximity of modulation symbols in
such systems, the grid-based approximation is of insufficient accuracy. We show
numerically that a state-of-the-art iterative receiver with grid-based sparse
channel estimation exhibits a bit-error-rate floor in the high SNR regime. On
the contrary, our receiver performs very close to the perfect channel state
information bound for all SNR values. We also demonstrate both theoretically
and numerically that parametric channel estimation works well in dense
channels, i.e., when the number of multipath components is large and each
