    Stability anomalies of some jacobian-free iterative methods of high order of convergence

    [EN] In this manuscript, we design two classes of parametric iterative schemes to solve nonlinear problems that do not need to evaluate Jacobian matrices and need to solve three linear systems per iteration with the same divided difference operator as the coefficient matrix. The stability performance of the classes is analyzed on a quadratic polynomial system, and it is shown that for many values of the parameter, only convergence to the roots of the problem exists.     Modified Potra-Pták multi-step schemes with accelerated order of convergence for solving sistems of nonlinear equations

    [EN] In this study, an iterative scheme of sixth order of convergence for solving systems of nonlinear equations is presented. The scheme is composed of three steps, of which the first two steps are that of third order Potra-Ptak method and last is weighted-Newton step. Furthermore, we generalize our work to derive a family of multi-step iterative methods with order of convergence 3r + 6, r = 0, 1, 2, .... The sixth order method is the special case of this multi-step scheme for r = 0. The family gives a four-step ninth order method for r = 1. As much higher order methods are not used in practice, so we study sixth and ninth order methods in detail. Numerical examples are included to confirm theoretical results and to compare the methods with some existing ones.     On a novel fourth-order algorithm for solving systems of nonlinear equations

    This paper focuses on solving systems of nonlinear equations numerically. We propose an efficient iterative scheme including two steps and fourth order of convergence. The proposed method does not require the evaluation of second or higher order Frechet derivatives per iteration to proceed and reach fourth order of convergence.     Preliminary orbit determination of artificial satellites: a vectorial sixth-order approach

    A modified classical method for preliminary orbit determination is presented. In our proposal, the spread of the observations is considerably wider than in the original method, as well as the order of convergence of the iterative scheme involved. The numerical approach is made by using matricial weight functions, which will lead us to a class of iterative methods with a sixth local order of convergence. This is a process widely used in the design of iterative methods for solving nonlinear scalar equations, but rarely employed in vectorial cases. The numerical tests confirm the theoretical results, and the analysis of the dynamics of the problem shows the stability of the proposed schemes.The authors thank the anonymous referees for their valuable comments and suggestions.     A nonlinear vehicle-structure interaction methodology with wheel-rail detachment and reattachment

    . A vehicle-structure interaction methodology with a nonlinear contact formulation based on contact and target elements has been developed. To solve the dynamic equations of motion, an incremental formulation has been used due to the nonlinear nature of the contact mechanics, while a procedure based on the Lagrange multiplier method imposes the contact constraint equations when contact occurs. The system of nonlinear equations is solved by an efficient block factorization solver that reorders the system matrix and isolates the nonlinear terms that belong to the contact elements or to other nonlinear elements that may be incorporated in the model. Such procedure avoids multiple unnecessary factorizations of the linear terms during each Newton iteration, making the formulation efficient and computationally attractive. A numerical example has been carried out to validate the accuracy and efficiency of the present methodology. The obtained results have shown a good agreement with the results obtained with the commercial finite element software ANSY

    A Parameterized multi-step Newton method for solving systems of nonlinear equations

    We construct a novel multi-step iterative method for solving systems of nonlinear equations by introducing a parameter. to generalize the multi-step Newton method while keeping its order of convergence and computational cost. By an appropriate selection of theta, the new method can both have faster convergence and have larger radius of convergence. The new iterative method only requires one Jacobian inversion per iteration, and therefore, can be efficiently implemented using Krylov subspace methods. The new method can be used to solve nonlinear systems of partial differential equations, such as complex generalized Zakharov systems of partial differential equations, by transforming them into systems of nonlinear equations by discretizing approaches in both spatial and temporal independent variables such as, for instance, the Chebyshev pseudo-spectral discretizing method.     Model reduction of biochemical reactions networks by tropical analysis methods

    We discuss a method of approximate model reduction for networks of biochemical reactions. This method can be applied to networks with polynomial or rational reaction rates and whose parameters are given by their orders of magnitude. In order to obtain reduced models we solve the problem of tropical equilibration that is a system of equations in max-plus algebra. In the case of networks with nonlinear fast cycles we have to solve the problem of tropical equilibration at least twice, once for the initial system and a second time for an extended system obtained by adding to the initial system the differential equations satisfied by the conservation laws of the fast subsystem. The two steps can be reiterated until the fast subsystem has no conservation laws different from the ones of the full model. Our method can be used for formal model reduction in computational systems biology
