    Modeling e-Business with eBML

In this paper we demonstrate that modeling e-business strategies is important in a time where the first e-business disillusionment has taken place. The objective of this Paper is twofold. First we propose a theoretical e-business model framework (eBMF) for aligning e-business initiatives and projects. This framework rep-resents an ontology, which will allow firms to develop a sound e-business model, in an environment that is amongst other things characterized by new forms of network organizations. Second we show why the eX-tensible Markup Language (XML) is an adequate technology for describing this theoretical framework in a formal way.xml, e-business models, e-business

How It-enabled Scm and E-commerce Help Dell Improve Competitive Advantage

Modeling and engineering software systems using Petri networks

Thesis (S.M.)--Massachusetts Institute of Technology, System Design and Management Program, 2007.Includes bibliographical references (p. 38).A model of software applications for business process management based on colored Petri Networks is proposed and the corresponding application development process is exposed. A language is proposed to specify the enabling rules of the transitions. An algorithm to solve the binding problem is proposed and detailed. These elements allow the developers to isolate themselves from the very complex details of business process orchestration, transaction management, multi-threading issues, and to concentrate on the implementation of the transitions themselves. As a proof of concept, a lightweight business process engine based on that model has been implemented as well as the associated development and code generation tools.by Michaël Visée.S.M

Multi Agent Systems in Logistics: A Literature and State-of-the-art Review

    Get PDF
Based on a literature survey, we aim to answer our main question: “How should we plan and execute logistics in supply chains that aim to meet today’s requirements, and how can we support such planning and execution using IT?†Today’s requirements in supply chains include inter-organizational collaboration and more responsive and tailored supply to meet specific demand. Enterprise systems fall short in meeting these requirements The focus of planning and execution systems should move towards an inter-enterprise and event-driven mode. Inter-organizational systems may support planning going from supporting information exchange and henceforth enable synchronized planning within the organizations towards the capability to do network planning based on available information throughout the network. We provide a framework for planning systems, constituting a rich landscape of possible configurations, where the centralized and fully decentralized approaches are two extremes. We define and discuss agent based systems and in particular multi agent systems (MAS). We emphasize the issue of the role of MAS coordination architectures, and then explain that transportation is, next to production, an important domain in which MAS can and actually are applied. However, implementation is not widespread and some implementation issues are explored. In this manner, we conclude that planning problems in transportation have characteristics that comply with the specific capabilities of agent systems. In particular, these systems are capable to deal with inter-organizational and event-driven planning settings, hence meeting today’s requirements in supply chain planning and execution.supply chain;MAS;multi agent systems

Supporting Semantically Enhanced Web Service Discovery for Enterprise Application Integration

The availability of sophisticated Web service discovery mechanisms is an essential prerequisite for increasing the levels of efficiency and automation in EAI. In this chapter, we present an approach for developing service registries building on the UDDI standard and offering semantically-enhanced publication and discovery capabilities in order to overcome some of the known limitations of conventional service registries. The approach aspires to promote efficiency in EAI in a number of ways, but primarily by automating the task of evaluating service integrability on the basis of the input and output messages that are defined in the Web service’s interface. The presented solution combines the use of three technology standards to meet its objectives: OWL-DL, for modelling service characteristics and performing fine-grained service matchmaking via DL reasoning, SAWSDL, for creating semantically annotated descriptions of service interfaces, and UDDI, for storing and retrieving syntactic and semantic information about services and service providers
