    Electronically Tunable Current-Mode Third-Order Square-Root-Domain Filter Design

    Get PDF
In this study, electronically-tunable, current-mode, square-root-domain, third-order low-pass filter is proposed. The study is carried out with three circuit designs. First circuit is third-order low-pass Butterworth filter, second circuit is third-order low-pass Chebyshev filter and the last circuit is third-order low-pass elliptic filter. All the input and output values of the filter circuit are current. Only grounded capacitors and MOSFETs are required in order to realize the filter circuit. Additionally, natural frequency f0 of the current-mode filter can be adjusted electronically using outer current sources. To validate the theory and to demonstrate the performance of third-order filter, frequency and time domain simulations of PSPICE program are used. To that end, TSMC 0.35Όm Level 3 CMOS process parameters are utilized to realize the simulations of the filter. © 2018 World Scientific Publishing Company

Synthesis of Attributed Feature Models From Product Descriptions: Foundations

Feature modeling is a widely used formalism to characterize a set of products (also called configurations). As a manual elaboration is a long and arduous task, numerous techniques have been proposed to reverse engineer feature models from various kinds of artefacts. But none of them synthesize feature attributes (or constraints over attributes) despite the practical relevance of attributes for documenting the different values across a range of products. In this report, we develop an algorithm for synthesizing attributed feature models given a set of product descriptions. We present sound, complete, and parametrizable techniques for computing all possible hierarchies, feature groups, placements of feature attributes, domain values, and constraints. We perform a complexity analysis w.r.t. number of features, attributes, configurations, and domain size. We also evaluate the scalability of our synthesis procedure using randomized configuration matrices. This report is a first step that aims to describe the foundations for synthesizing attributed feature models

Diseño para operabilidad: Una revisión de enfoques y estrategias de solución

In the last decades the chemical engineering scientific research community has largely addressed the design-foroperability problem. Such an interest responds to the fact that the operability quality of a process is determined by design, becoming evident the convenience of considering operability issues in early design stages rather than later when the impact of modifications is less effective and more expensive. The necessity of integrating design and operability is dictated by the increasing complexity of the processes as result of progressively stringent economic, quality, safety and environmental constraints. Although the design-for-operability problem concerns to practically every technical discipline, it has achieved a particular identity within the chemical engineering field due to the economic magnitude of the involved processes. The work on design and analysis for operability in chemical engineering is really vast and a complete review in terms of papers is beyond the scope of this contribution. Instead, two major approaches will be addressed and those papers that in our belief had the most significance to the development of the field will be described in some detail. Fil: Blanco, Anibal Manuel. Digital waveguide modeling for wind instruments: building a state-space representation based on the Webster-Lokshin model

    Get PDF
This paper deals with digital waveguide modeling of wind instruments. It presents the application of state-space representations for the refined acoustic model of Webster-Lokshin. This acoustic model describes the propagation of longitudinal waves in axisymmetric acoustic pipes with a varying cross-section, visco-thermal losses at the walls, and without assuming planar or spherical waves. Moreover, three types of discontinuities of the shape can be taken into account (radius, slope and curvature). The purpose of this work is to build low-cost digital simulations in the time domain based on the Webster-Lokshin model. First, decomposing a resonator into independent elementary parts and isolating delay operators lead to a Kelly-Lochbaum network of input/output systems and delays. Second, for a systematic assembling of elements, their state-space representations are derived in discrete time. Then, standard tools of automatic control are used to reduce the complexity of digital simulations in the time domain. The method is applied to a real trombone, and results of simulations are presented and compared with measurements. This method seems to be a promising approach in term of modularity, complexity of calculation and accuracy, for any acoustic resonators based on tubes

Digital robust control law synthesis using constrained optimization

    Get PDF
Development of digital robust control laws for active control of high performance flexible aircraft and large space structures is a research area of significant practical importance. The flexible system is typically modeled by a large order state space system of equations in order to accurately represent the dynamics. The active control law must satisy multiple conflicting design requirements and maintain certain stability margins, yet should be simple enough to be implementable on an onboard digital computer. Described here is an application of a generic digital control law synthesis procedure for such a system, using optimal control theory and constrained optimization technique. A linear quadratic Gaussian type cost function is minimized by updating the free parameters of the digital control law, while trying to satisfy a set of constraints on the design loads, responses and stability margins. Analytical expressions for the gradients of the cost function and the constraints with respect to the control law design variables are used to facilitate rapid numerical convergence. These gradients can be used for sensitivity study and may be integrated into a simultaneous structure and control optimization scheme
