Program management model study
Two models, a system performance model and a program assessment model, have been developed to assist NASA management in the evaluation of development alternatives for the Earth Observations Program. Two computer models were developed and demonstrated on the Goddard Space Flight Center Computer Facility. Procedures have been outlined to guide the user of the models through specific evaluation processes, and the preparation of inputs describing earth observation needs and earth observation technology. These models are intended to assist NASA in increasing the effectiveness of the overall Earth Observation Program by providing a broader view of system and program development alternatives
The CARE 3 Phase 3 Report: Test and Evaluation
CARE 3 (Computer-Aided Reliability Estimation, version three) is a computer program designed to help estimate the reliability of complex, redundant systems; although the program can model a wide variety of redundant structures, it was developed specifically for fault-tolerant avionics systems, systems distinguished by the need for extremely reliable performance since a system failure could well result in the loss of human life. CARE 3 further generalizes the class of system structures that can be modeled and greatly expands the coverage model to take into account such effects as intermittent and transient faults, latent faults, error propagation, etc. The initial test and evaluation of CARE 3 are reported
Computer-Aided Value-Assessment Model: Review for Bilingual Teaching Courses Quantitative Analysis
AbstractIn order to review the effect on the bilingual teaching courses aided by computer, the comprehensive evaluation on the bilingual teaching course and research results of the bilingual teaching is required in the university. A full range system for bilingual teaching course performance assessment that is a novel quantized method is researched in this paper. Furthermore, the comprehensive evaluation processing and evaluation model have been accomplished. The application results for bilingual teaching course performance review assessment which is developed as a computer management system demonstrated its high operability and achieved accurate can be convenient for the same requirements
Performability evaluation of the SIFT computer
Performability modeling and evaluation techniques are applied to the SIFT computer as it might operate in the computational evironment of an air transport mission. User-visible performance of the total system (SIFT plus its environment) is modeled as a random variable taking values in a set of levels of accomplishment. These levels are defined in terms of four attributes of total system behavior: safety, no change in mission profile, no operational penalties, and no economic process whose states describe the internal structure of SIFT as well as relavant conditions of the environment. Base model state trajectories are related to accomplishment levels via a capability function which is formulated in terms of a 3-level model hierarchy. Performability evaluation algorithms are then applied to determine the performability of the total system for various choices of computer and environment parameter values. Numerical results of those evaluations are presented and, in conclusion, some implications of this effort are discussed
Effect of image tilt of a virtual image display on simulated transport touchdown performance
An evaluation of the visual effect of image tilt of a refractive lens display system is presented. The system was used to present a rudimentary computer generated out the window scene to the pilot of a flight simulator during approach, flare, and touchdown. Comparisons are made of sink rate at touchdown and performances for untilted and tilted displays. Sixty four landings with each condition for a total of 128 touchdowns were made by 3 subjects. Performance measures, such as the flare and touchdown footprints, were recorded and analyzed. The visual effect of the image tilt was investigated for a terrain model board scene
Evaluating the reliability of NAND multiplexing with PRISM
Probabilistic-model checking is a formal verification technique for analyzing the reliability and performance of systems exhibiting stochastic behavior. In this paper, we demonstrate the applicability of this approach and, in particular, the probabilistic-model-checking tool PRISM to the evaluation of reliability and redundancy of defect-tolerant systems in the field of computer-aided design. We illustrate the technique with an example due to von Neumann, namely NAND multiplexing. We show how, having constructed a model of a defect-tolerant system incorporating probabilistic assumptions about its defects, it is straightforward to compute a range of reliability measures and investigate how they are affected by slight variations in the behavior of the system. This allows a designer to evaluate, for example, the tradeoff between redundancy and reliability in the design. We also highlight errors in analytically computed reliability bounds, recently published for the same case study
