Statistical Delay Bound for WirelessHART Networks
In this paper we provide a performance analysis framework for wireless
industrial networks by deriving a service curve and a bound on the delay
violation probability. For this purpose we use the (min,x) stochastic network
calculus as well as a recently presented recursive formula for an end-to-end
delay bound of wireless heterogeneous networks. The derived results are mapped
to WirelessHART networks used in process automation and were validated via
simulations. In addition to WirelessHART, our results can be applied to any
wireless network whose physical layer conforms the IEEE 802.15.4 standard,
while its MAC protocol incorporates TDMA and channel hopping, like e.g.
ISA100.11a or TSCH-based networks. The provided delay analysis is especially
useful during the network design phase, offering further research potential
towards optimal routing and power management in QoS-constrained wireless
industrial networks.Comment: Accepted at PE-WASUN 201
Connection management applications for high-speed audio networking
Traditionally, connection management applications (referred to as patchbays) for high-speed audio networking, are predominantly developed using third-generation languages such as C, C# and C++. Due to the rapid increase in distributed audio/video network usage in the world today, connection management applications that control signal routing over these networks have also evolved in complexity to accommodate more functionality. As the result, high-speed audio networking application developers require a tool that will enable them to develop complex connection management applications easily and within the shortest possible time. In addition, this tool should provide them with the reliability and flexibility required to develop applications controlling signal routing in networks carrying real-time data. High-speed audio networks are used for various purposes that include audio/video production and broadcasting. This investigation evaluates the possibility of using Adobe Flash Professional 8, using ActionScript 2.0, for developing connection management applications. Three patchbays, namely the Broadcast patchbay, the Project studio patchbay, and the Hospitality/Convention Centre patchbay were developed and tested for connection management in three sound installation networks, namely the Broadcast network, the Project studio network, and the Hospitality/Convention Centre network. Findings indicate that complex connection management applications can effectively be implemented using the Adobe Flash IDE and ActionScript 2.0
Data Integration: a Case Study in the Financial Services Industry
Current economic conditions result in banks participating in multiple mergers and acquisitions. This results in banks inheriting silo and heterogeneous systems. For banks to remain competitive, they must create a strategy to integrate data from these acquired systems in a dynamic, efficient, and consumable manner. This research considers a case study of a large financial services company that has successfully integrated data from different sources. In addition this research investigates endeavors that experts in the field have undertaken to develop architectures that address the problems with data integration and appropriate solutions
Via-Programmable Structured ASIC Fabric Based on MCML Cells: Design-Flow and Implementation
This paper presents a regular layout fabric made of via-programmable MCML universal logic cells for structured ASIC applications and the associated design flow. The proposed structured ASIC fabric offers high speed operation, very high noise immunity, as well as low production cost due to the via-programmable properties of the universal logic cell. Implementations of a number of circuits are presented and the area/speed performances are compared with classical CMOS implementation using a commercial standard cell library in 0.18 um CMOS technology

Energy Driven Process Planning and Machine Tool Dynamic Behavior Assessment
AbstractThe current work outlines an approach to close the loop between process planning and machine tool dynamic modeling by addressing the problem of energy efficiency across the process design and realization chains, from the process settings and pallet configuration to the machine tool design and usage phases. The proposed closed loop approach consists of an off-line and on-line component enabling the process and equipment dynamic and energy assessment over time. The benefits of the approach have been evaluated against an industrial case study related to the automotive industry
Development of the control system of the ALICE Transition Radiation Detector and of a test environment for quality-assurance of its front-end electronics
Communications network design and costing model technical manual
This computer model provides the capability for analyzing long-haul trunking networks comprising a set of user-defined cities, traffic conditions, and tariff rates. Networks may consist of all terrestrial connectivity, all satellite connectivity, or a combination of terrestrial and satellite connectivity. Network solutions provide the least-cost routes between all cities, the least-cost network routing configuration, and terrestrial and satellite service cost totals. The CNDC model allows analyses involving three specific FCC-approved tariffs, which are uniquely structured and representative of most existing service connectivity and pricing philosophies. User-defined tariffs that can be variations of these three tariffs are accepted as input to the model and allow considerable flexibility in network problem specification. The resulting model extends the domain of network analysis from traditional fixed link cost (distance-sensitive) problems to more complex problems involving combinations of distance and traffic-sensitive tariffs
