    UML-F: A Modeling Language for Object-Oriented Frameworks

    The paper presents the essential features of a new member of the UML language family that supports working with object-oriented frameworks. This UML extension, called UML-F, allows the explicit representation of framework variation points. The paper discusses some of the relevant aspects of UML-F, which is based on standard UML extension mechanisms. A case study shows how it can be used to assist framework development.     Two-tag correlations and nonequilibrium fluctuation-response relation in ageing single-file diffusion

    Spatiotemporally correlated motions of interacting Brownian particles, confined in a narrow channel of infinite length, are studied in terms of statistical quantities involving two particles. A theoretical framework that allows analytical calculation of two-tag correlations is presented on the basis of the Dean–Kawasaki equation describing density fluctuations in colloidal systems. In the equilibrium case, the time-dependent Einstein relation holds between the two-tag displacement correlation and the response function corresponding to it, which is a manifestation of the fluctuation–dissipation theorem for the correlation of density fluctuations. While the standard procedure of closure approximation for nonlinear density fluctuations is known to be obstructed by inconsistency with the fluctuation–dissipation theorem, this difficulty is naturally avoided by switching from the standard Fourier representation of the density field to the label-based Fourier representation of the vacancy field. In the case of ageing dynamics started from equidistant lattice configuration, the time-dependent Einstein relation is violated, as the two-tag correlation depends on the waiting time for equilibration while the response function is not sensitive to it. Within linear approximation, however, there is a simple relation between the density (or vacancy) fluctuations and the corresponding response function, which is valid even if the system is out of equilibrium. This non-equilibrium fluctuation–response relation can be extended to the case of nonlinear fluctuations by means of closure approximation for the vacancy field

    An extensible product structure model for product lifecycle management in the make-to-order environment

    This paper presents a product structure model with a semantic representation technique that make the product structure extensible for developing product lifecycle management (PLM) systems that is flexible for make-to-order environment. In the make-to-order business context, each product could have a number of variants with slightly different constitutions to fulfill different customer requirements. All the variants of a family have common characteristics and each variant has its specific features. A master-variant pattern is proposed for building the product structure model to explicitly represent common characteristics and specific features of individual variants. The model is capable of enforcing the consistency of a family structure and its variant structure, supporting multiple product views, and facilitating the business processes. A semantic representation technique is developed that enables entity attributes to be defined and entities to be categorized in a neutral and semantic format. As a result, entity attributes and entity categorization can be redefined easily with its configurable capability for different requirements of the PLM systems. An XML-based language is developed for semantically representing entities and entity categories. A prototype as a proof-of-concept system is presented to illustrate the capability of the proposed extensible product structure model

    This report describes preservation planning approaches and strategies recommended by the BlogForever project as a core component of a weblog repository design. More specifically, we start by discussing why we would want to preserve weblogs in the first place and what it is exactly that we are trying to preserve. We further present a review of past and present work and highlight why current practices in web archiving do not address the needs of weblog preservation adequately. We make three distinctive contributions in this volume: a) we propose transferable practical workflows for applying a combination of established metadata and repository standards in developing a weblog repository, b) we provide an automated approach to identifying significant properties of weblog content that uses the notion of communities and how this affects previous strategies, c) we propose a sustainability plan that draws upon community knowledge through innovative repository design
