Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to introduce the special issue of the International Journal of Innovation Science, “Innovation and Entrepreneurship in HEI Sector,” which aims to bring together recent developments and methodological contributions within this field with the challenges that characterize innovation and entrepreneurship in the Higher Education Institutions (HEI) Sector. Design/methodology/approach – This special issue includes a collection of seven papers. A brief explanation of the authors’ contributions is presented to invite a broader readership. Findings – The studies in this special issue provide multilevel perspectives on innovation and entrepreneurship in the HEI sector. Mostly, the papers contribute to a better understanding of this topic. Furthermore, the papers suggest some ‘hot topics’ for a future agenda. Research limitations/implications – These findings have particular relevance for policy-makers, business organizations, and HEIs. It also has wider implications for the development of entrepreneurial policies in cross-national contexts. There are several challenges not included here that merit further insight. Originality/value – This special issue advances our understanding of innovation and entrepreneurship in the HEI sector. To include education and training elements in entrepreneurial support programmes is fundamental to boosting the innovation level and consequently a higher rate of entrepreneurship development.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Editorial: Obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS). What's new?

This Research Topic entitled “Obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS). What's new?”, involving authors from different specializations and numerous countries, confirms that OSAS is a hot topic. OSA syndrome is an airway obstruction (i.e. complete or partial) with numerous etiologies (1–4). Different papers have demonstrated that the prevalence of OSAS is 2–4% in men and 1–2% in women of average age. The reference tools for OSAS diagnosis are clinical polysomnography or nocturnal portable multi-channel monitoring. Frequently, continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) therapy is the first treatment for a patient (5, 6). Long-term CPAP treatment may present limited compliance, and there is no unanimous opinion on other alternative treatments for OSAS in literature on the subject. This special issue discusses several of these “unmet needs”

An introduction to Crafting Sustainability – exploring the interconnections between sustainability and craft

Sustainability has become a critical issue, calling for new conceptualizations of both problems and solutions. This special issue of the Nordic Journal of Science and Technology Studies,  explore the concept of “Crafting Sustainability”. Sustainability is a hot topic in contemporary scholarly debates, with methodological, theoretical, and conceptual contributions from a wide array of research areas, also from Science and Technology Studies. Craft on the other hand has been less of a focal point, although all humans relate to craft on some level

New Insights in the Genetics and Genomics of Adrenocortical Tumors and Pheochromocytomas

This book includes 17 papers published in the Special Issue/Article Collectoin “New Insights in the Genetics and Genomics of adrenocortical tumors and pheochromocytomas” including an editorial, 10 research papers and six review articles. Adrenal tumors represent a hot topic in contemporary endocrine oncology. Significant advancements in the genetics of genomics of these tumors have been made in recent years, and these articles give a useful and comprehensive overview of these issues. Questions regarding molecular pathogenesis, diagnosis (biomarkers) and even treatment are discussed in the papers written by international leaders of the field. Manuscripts are focused on three main topics: i. primary aldosteronism (the most common cause of secondary endocrine hypertension), ii. adrenocortical cancer and iii. pheochromocytoma/paraganglioma, which are the tumors with the highest heritability in humans. The book is edited by Prof. Peter Igaz (Department of Endocrinology, Faculty of Medicine, Semmelweis University)

Celebrating the continued importance of "Machiavellian Intelligence" 30 years on

The question of what has shaped primates’ (and other species’) cognitive capacities, whether technical or social demands, remains a hot topic of inquiry. Indeed, a key area of study within the field of comparative psychology in the last few decades has been the focus on social life as a driving force behind the evolution of cognition, studied from behavioral and neurological perspectives and from theoretical and empirical perspectives. Reflecting on contemporary studies of primate social cognition specifically, one cannot ignore the book, Machiavellian Intelligence, coedited by Richard Byrne and Andrew Whiten (Byrne & Whiten, 1988a). It is a keystone for the field: The volume as a whole has been cited over 3,000 times, without even including citations to individual chapters. This year, 2018, is the 30th anniversary of the first publication of Machiavellian Intelligence, and with this special issue of the Journal of Comparative Psychology, we mark that milestone. The key concept put forth in Machiavellian Intelligence was that primates’ sociocognitive abilities were shaped by the complex social worlds that they inhabited, rather than the technical or foraging challenges that they faced, as had previously been posited. In this issue, we consider the strength of the Machiavellian intelligence hypothesis 30 years on to explain primate social cognition, and we consider its applicability to nonprimate species and to other cognitive domains

This issue of the Journal of Learning Analytics features seven research papers, complemented by a practitioner research paper (Dvorak & Jia). Papers by McCoy and Shih, and Knight, Brozina, and Novoselich discuss the important topic of educators working with educational data, alongside (in the latter paper) student perspectives on learning analytics. Douglas, Bermel, Alam, and Madhavan; and Waddington, Nam, Lonn, and Teasley offer empirical insight on developing a richer perspective on learning material interaction and engagement in online learning contexts (MOOCs, and LMS’ respectively). Dvorak and Jia bring a practitioner perspective to the issue in their discussion of approaches to analyzing online work habits via timeliness, regularity, and intensity. Sutherland and White, and Vieira, Goldstein, Purzer, and Magana offer focus on specific subject-based learning activities (algebra learning, and student experimentation strategies in engineering design, respectively). Finally, Howley and RosĂ© discuss the complex interactions of theory and method in computational modeling of group learning processes. The issue also features a special section on learning analytics tutorials, edited by GaĆĄević and Pechenizkiy. The editorial concludes with a report of the recent ‘hot spots section’ consultation from the editorial team of the journal
