Recurrent 3D Pose Sequence Machines
3D human articulated pose recovery from monocular image sequences is very
challenging due to the diverse appearances, viewpoints, occlusions, and also
the human 3D pose is inherently ambiguous from the monocular imagery. It is
thus critical to exploit rich spatial and temporal long-range dependencies
among body joints for accurate 3D pose sequence prediction. Existing approaches
usually manually design some elaborate prior terms and human body kinematic
constraints for capturing structures, which are often insufficient to exploit
all intrinsic structures and not scalable for all scenarios. In contrast, this
paper presents a Recurrent 3D Pose Sequence Machine(RPSM) to automatically
learn the image-dependent structural constraint and sequence-dependent temporal
context by using a multi-stage sequential refinement. At each stage, our RPSM
is composed of three modules to predict the 3D pose sequences based on the
previously learned 2D pose representations and 3D poses: (i) a 2D pose module
extracting the image-dependent pose representations, (ii) a 3D pose recurrent
module regressing 3D poses and (iii) a feature adaption module serving as a
bridge between module (i) and (ii) to enable the representation transformation
from 2D to 3D domain. These three modules are then assembled into a sequential
prediction framework to refine the predicted poses with multiple recurrent
stages. Extensive evaluations on the Human3.6M dataset and HumanEva-I dataset
show that our RPSM outperforms all state-of-the-art approaches for 3D pose

MotionBERT: A Unified Perspective on Learning Human Motion Representations
We present a unified perspective on tackling various human-centric video
tasks by learning human motion representations from large-scale and
heterogeneous data resources. Specifically, we propose a pretraining stage in
which a motion encoder is trained to recover the underlying 3D motion from
noisy partial 2D observations. The motion representations acquired in this way
incorporate geometric, kinematic, and physical knowledge about human motion,
which can be easily transferred to multiple downstream tasks. We implement the
motion encoder with a Dual-stream Spatio-temporal Transformer (DSTformer)
neural network. It could capture long-range spatio-temporal relationships among
the skeletal joints comprehensively and adaptively, exemplified by the lowest
3D pose estimation error so far when trained from scratch. Furthermore, our
proposed framework achieves state-of-the-art performance on all three
downstream tasks by simply finetuning the pretrained motion encoder with a
simple regression head (1-2 layers), which demonstrates the versatility of the
learned motion representations. Code and models are available at

MonoPerfCap: Human Performance Capture from Monocular Video
We present the first marker-less approach for temporally coherent 3D
performance capture of a human with general clothing from monocular video. Our
approach reconstructs articulated human skeleton motion as well as medium-scale
non-rigid surface deformations in general scenes. Human performance capture is
a challenging problem due to the large range of articulation, potentially fast
motion, and considerable non-rigid deformations, even from multi-view data.
Reconstruction from monocular video alone is drastically more challenging,
since strong occlusions and the inherent depth ambiguity lead to a highly
ill-posed reconstruction problem. We tackle these challenges by a novel
approach that employs sparse 2D and 3D human pose detections from a
convolutional neural network using a batch-based pose estimation strategy.
Joint recovery of per-batch motion allows to resolve the ambiguities of the
monocular reconstruction problem based on a low dimensional trajectory
subspace. In addition, we propose refinement of the surface geometry based on
fully automatically extracted silhouettes to enable medium-scale non-rigid
alignment. We demonstrate state-of-the-art performance capture results that
enable exciting applications such as video editing and free viewpoint video,
previously infeasible from monocular video. Our qualitative and quantitative
evaluation demonstrates that our approach significantly outperforms previous
monocular methods in terms of accuracy, robustness and scene complexity that

Human Pose Recovery approaches have been studied in the
eld of Computer Vision for the last 40 years. Several approaches have
been reported, and signi cant improvements have been obtained in both
data representation and model design. However, the problem of Human
Pose Recovery in uncontrolled environments is far from being solved.

Geometry-Aware Network for Non-Rigid Shape Prediction from a Single View
We propose a method for predicting the 3D shape of a deformable surface from
a single view. By contrast with previous approaches, we do not need a
pre-registered template of the surface, and our method is robust to the lack of
texture and partial occlusions. At the core of our approach is a {\it
geometry-aware} deep architecture that tackles the problem as usually done in
analytic solutions: first perform 2D detection of the mesh and then estimate a
3D shape that is geometrically consistent with the image. We train this
architecture in an end-to-end manner using a large dataset of synthetic
renderings of shapes under different levels of deformation, material
properties, textures and lighting conditions. We evaluate our approach on a
test split of this dataset and available real benchmarks, consistently
improving state-of-the-art solutions with a significantly lower computational

3D Shape Estimation from 2D Landmarks: A Convex Relaxation Approach
We investigate the problem of estimating the 3D shape of an object, given a
set of 2D landmarks in a single image. To alleviate the reconstruction
ambiguity, a widely-used approach is to confine the unknown 3D shape within a
shape space built upon existing shapes. While this approach has proven to be
successful in various applications, a challenging issue remains, i.e., the
joint estimation of shape parameters and camera-pose parameters requires to
solve a nonconvex optimization problem. The existing methods often adopt an
alternating minimization scheme to locally update the parameters, and
consequently the solution is sensitive to initialization. In this paper, we
propose a convex formulation to address this problem and develop an efficient
algorithm to solve the proposed convex program. We demonstrate the exact
recovery property of the proposed method, its merits compared to alternative

Structure from Articulated Motion: Accurate and Stable Monocular 3D Reconstruction without Training Data
Recovery of articulated 3D structure from 2D observations is a challenging
computer vision problem with many applications. Current learning-based
approaches achieve state-of-the-art accuracy on public benchmarks but are
restricted to specific types of objects and motions covered by the training
datasets. Model-based approaches do not rely on training data but show lower
accuracy on these datasets. In this paper, we introduce a model-based method
called Structure from Articulated Motion (SfAM), which can recover multiple
object and motion types without training on extensive data collections. At the
same time, it performs on par with learning-based state-of-the-art approaches
on public benchmarks and outperforms previous non-rigid structure from motion
(NRSfM) methods. SfAM is built upon a general-purpose NRSfM technique while
integrating a soft spatio-temporal constraint on the bone lengths. We use
alternating optimization strategy to recover optimal geometry (i.e., bone
proportions) together with 3D joint positions by enforcing the bone lengths
consistency over a series of frames. SfAM is highly robust to noisy 2D
annotations, generalizes to arbitrary objects and does not rely on training
data, which is shown in extensive experiments on public benchmarks and real
video sequences. We believe that it brings a new perspective on the domain of
monocular 3D recovery of articulated structures, including human motion

Las técnicas basadas en patrones han tenido éxito, sin embargo, su precisión depende de la similitud del punto de vista de la cámara y de las propiedades de la escena entre las imágenes de entrenamiento y las de prueba. Teniendo en cuenta un conjunto de datos de entrenamiento capturado mediante un número reducido de cámaras fijas, paralelas al suelo, se han identificado y analizado tres escenarios posibles con creciente nivel de dificultad: 1) una cámara estática paralela al suelo, 2) una cámara de vigilancia fija con un ángulo de visión considerablemente diferente, y 3) una secuencia de video capturada con una cámara en movimiento o simplemente una sola imagen estática
