A set theoretic framework for enumerating matches in surveys and its application to reducing inaccuracies in vehicle roadside surveys
This paper describes a framework for analysing matches in multiple data sets.
The framework described is quite general and can be applied to a variety of
problems where matches are to be found in data surveyed at a number of
locations (or at a single location over a number of days). As an example, the
framework is applied to the problem of false matches in licence plate survey
data. The specific problem addressed is that of estimating how many vehicles
were genuinely sighted at every one of a number of survey points when there is
a possibility of accidentally confusing two vehicles due to the nature of the
survey undertaken.
In this paper, a method for representing the possible "types of match" is
outlined using set theory. The phrase "types of match" will be defined and
formalised in this paper. A method for enumerating the set of all types of
match over n survey sites, is described. The method is applied to the problem
of correcting survey data for false matches using a simple probabalistic
method. An algorithm is developed for correcting false matches over multiple
survey sites and its use is demonstrated with simulation results.Comment: 13 pages, 1 figur
Fuelling the zero-emissions road freight of the future: routing of mobile fuellers
The future of zero-emissions road freight is closely tied to the sufficient availability of new and clean fuel options such as electricity and Hydrogen. In goods distribution using Electric Commercial Vehicles (ECVs) and Hydrogen Fuel Cell Vehicles (HFCVs) a major challenge in the transition period would pertain to their limited autonomy and scarce and unevenly distributed refuelling stations. One viable solution to facilitate and speed up the adoption of ECVs/HFCVs by logistics, however, is to get the fuel to the point where it is needed (instead of diverting the route of delivery vehicles to refuelling stations) using "Mobile Fuellers (MFs)". These are mobile battery swapping/recharging vans or mobile Hydrogen fuellers that can travel to a running ECV/HFCV to provide the fuel they require to complete their delivery routes at a rendezvous time and space. In this presentation, new vehicle routing models will be presented for a third party company that provides MF services. In the proposed problem variant, the MF provider company receives routing plans of multiple customer companies and has to design routes for a fleet of capacitated MFs that have to synchronise their routes with the running vehicles to deliver the required amount of fuel on-the-fly. This presentation will discuss and compare several mathematical models based on different business models and collaborative logistics scenarios
Research on Teaching and Learning In Biology, Chemistry and Physics In ESERA 2013 Conference
This paper provides an overview of the topics in educational research that were published in the ESERA 2013 conference proceedings. The aim of the research was to identify what aspects of the teacher-student-content interaction were investigated frequently and what have been studied rarely. We used the categorization system developed by Kinnunen, Lampiselkä, Malmi and Meisalo (2016) and altogether 184 articles were analyzed. The analysis focused on secondary and tertiary level biology, chemistry, physics, and science education. The results showed that most of the studies focus on either the teacher’s pedagogical actions or on the student - content relationship. All other aspects were studied considerably less. For example, the teachers’ thoughts about the students’ perceptions and attitudes towards the goals and the content, and the teachers’ conceptions of the students’ actions towards achieving the goals were studied only rarely. Discussion about the scope and the coverage of the research in science education in Europe is needed.Peer reviewe
Molecular phylogeny of horseshoe crab using mitochondrial Cox1 gene as a benchmark sequence
An effort to assess the utility of 650 bp Cytochrome C
oxidase subunit I (DNA barcode) gene in delineating the members horseshoe crabs (Family: xiphosura) with closely related sister taxa was made. A total of 33 sequences were extracted from National Center for Biotechnological Information (NCBI) which include horseshoe crabs, beetles, common crabs and scorpion sequences. Constructed phylogram showed beetles are closely related with horseshoe crabs than
common crabs. Scorpion spp were distantly related to
xiphosurans. Phylogram and observed genetic distance (GD) date were also revealed that Limulus polyphemus was closely related with Tachypleus tridentatus than with T.gigas. Carcinoscorpius rotundicauda was distantly related with
L.polyphemus. The observed mean Genetic Distance (GD) value was higher in 3rd codon position in all the selected group of organisms. Among the horseshoe crabs high GC content was observed in L.polyphemus (38.32%) and lowest was observed in T.tridentatus (32.35%).
