    MRoCS : a new multi-robot communication system based on passive action recognition

    Multi-robot search-and-rescue missions often face major challenges in adverse environments due to the limitations of traditional implicit and explicit communication. This paper proposes a novel multi-robot communication system (MRoCS), which uses a passive action recognition technique that overcomes the shortcomings of traditional models. The proposed MRoCS relies on individual motion, by mimicking the waggle dance of honey bees and thus forming and recognising different patterns accordingly. The system was successfully designed and implemented in simulation and with real robots. Experimental results show that, the pattern recognition process successfully reported high sensitivity with good precision in all cases for three different patterns thus corroborating our hypothesis

    Este artículo repasa los usos del llamado paradigma hexaemeral (el relato de la creación del mundo contenido en el primer capítulo del Génesis) en la poesía de Lope, dejando aparte los ejemplos contenidos en su prosa doctrinal y en su teatro, donde el motivo tiene una dilatada presencia en sus autos sacramentales. La escasez de ejemplos en su poesía lírica se explica en parte por la específica materia sacra y catequética del motivo. This paper shows the use of the hexaemeral paradigm (the story of the creation of the world contained in the first chapter of the book of Genesis) in the poetry of Lope, not including other examples from his doctrinal prose and theater, where the topic has an extensive presence, especially in his sacramental plays. The scarcity of cases in Lope’s lyric poetry is partly explained by the specific sacred and catechetical content of the motif

    A consensus-based grouping algorithm for multi-agent cooperative task allocation with complex requirements

    This paper looks at consensus algorithms for agent cooperation with unmanned aerial vehicles. The foundation is the consensus-based bundle algorithm, which is extended to allow multi-agent tasks requiring agents to cooperate in completing individual tasks. Inspiration is taken from the cognitive behaviours of eusocial animals for cooperation and improved assignments. Using the behaviours observed in bees and ants inspires decentralised algorithms for groups of agents to adapt to changing task demand. Further extensions are provided to improve task complexity handling by the agents with added equipment requirements and task dependencies. We address the problems of handling these challenges and improve the efficiency of the algorithm for these requirements, whilst decreasing the communication cost with a new data structure. The proposed algorithm converges to a conflict-free, feasible solution of which previous algorithms are unable to account for. Furthermore, the algorithm takes into account heterogeneous agents, deadlocking and a method to store assignments for a dynamical environment. Simulation results demonstrate reduced data usage and communication time to come to a consensus on multi-agent tasks. © 2014 The Author(s)

    Distributed Cognition as the Basis for Adaptation and Homeostasis in Robots

    Many researchers approach the problem of building autonomous systems by looking to biology for inspiration. This has given rise to a wide-range of artificial systems mimicking their biological counterparts—artificial neural networks, artificial endocrine systems, and artificial musculoskeletal systems are prime examples. While these systems are succinct and work well in isolation, they can become cumbersome and complicated when combined to perform more complex tasks. Autonomous behaviour is one such complex task. This thesis considers autonomy as the complex behaviour it is, and proposes a bottom-up approach to developing autonomous behaviour from cognition. This consists of investigating how cognition can provide new approaches to the current limitations of swarm systems, and using this as the basis for one type of autonomous behaviour: artificial homeostasis. Distributed cognition, a form of emergent cognition, is most often described in terms of the immune system and social insects. By taking inspiration from distributed cognition, this thesis details the development of novel algorithms for cognitive decision-making and emergent identity in leaderless, homogenous swarms. Artificial homeostasis is provided to a robot through an architecture that combines the cognitive decision-making algorithm with a simple associative memory. This architecture is used to demonstrate how a simple architecture can endow a robot with the capacity to adapt to an unseen environment, and use that information to proactively seek out what it needs from the environment in order to maintain its internal state

Customers, datacenters, and scattered servers are just a few of the components that make up a cloud. It includes things like internal failure adaption, high accessibility, flexibility, adaptability, lower client overhead, lower ownership costs, on-demand advantages, and so on. The basis of a feasible load adjusting computation is key to resolving these challenges. CPU load, memory limit, deferral, and system load are all examples of heaps. Burden adjustment is a method for distributing the load across the many hubs of a conveyance framework in order to optimize asset utilization and employment response time while avoiding a situation where some hubs are heavily loaded while others are idle or performing little work. Burden adjustment ensures that at any one time, each processor in the framework or each hub in the system does about the same amount of work. This method may be initiated by the sender, the collector, or the symmetric sort (the blend of sender-started and recipient started types). With some example data center loads, the goal is to create several dynamic load balancing techniques such as Round Robin, Throttled, Equally Spread Current Execution Load, and Shortest Job First algorithms

    Recent developments on precision beekeeping: A systematic literature review

    The aim of this systematic review was to point out the current state of precision beekeeping and to draw implications for future studies. Precision beekeeping is defined as an apiary management strategy based on monitoring individual bee colonies to minimize resource consumption and maximize bee productivity. This subject that has met with a growing interest from researchers in recent years because of its environmental implications. The Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis (PRISMA) was selected to conduct this review. The literature search was carried out in the Scopus database for articles published between 2015 and 2023, being a very recent issue. After two rounds screening and examination, 201 studies were considered to be analysed. They were classified based on the internal parameters of the hive, in turn divided by weight, internal temperature, relative humidity, flight activity, sounds and vibrations, gases, and external parameters, in turn divided by wind speed, rainfall and ambient temperature. The study also considered possible undesirable effects of the use of sensors on bees, economic aspects and applications of Geographic Information System technologies in beekeeping.
