    Dynamic Load Balancing and Self-load Migration with Delay Queue in DVE

    Distributed Virtual environments are gaining a lot of attention recently, due to the ever improving popularity of on the internet and social networking sites. As the variety of contingency users of a distributed virtual environment increases the critical issue is coming up, the issue describes as improving amount of work between several web servers how can be balanced to maintain real-time efficiency. The variety of load balancing methods has been suggested recently but they either try to produce high quality load balancing outcomes and become too slow or highlight on efficiency and the load balancing outcomes become less effective. In this perform, the new approach is suggested to address this issue based on the Front load balancer. The heat diffusion methods is used to develop a load balancing system after that the front load balancer will create improvements in the Dynamic load balancing of the several web servers with Delay queue. The numbers of tests are performed to evaluate the efficiency of the suggested technique.     Yellow Tree: A Distributed Main-memory Spatial Index Structure for Moving Objects

    Mobile devices equipped with wireless technologies to communicate and positioning systems to locate objects of interest are common place today, providing the impetus to develop location-aware applications. At the heart of location-aware applications are moving objects or objects that continuously change location over time, such as cars in transportation networks or pedestrians or postal packages. Location-aware applications tend to support the tracking of very large numbers of such moving objects as well as many users that are interested in finding out about the locations of other moving objects. Such location-aware applications rely on support from database management systems to model, store, and query moving object data. The management of moving object data exposes the limitations of traditional (spatial) database management systems as well as their index structures designed to keep track of objects\u27 locations. Spatial index structures that have been designed for geographic objects in the past primarily assume data are foremost of static nature (e.g., land parcels, road networks, or airport locations), thus requiring a limited amount of index structure updates and reorganization over a period of time. While handling moving objects however, there is an incumbent need for continuous reorganization of spatial index structures to remain up to date with constantly and rapidly changing object locations. This research addresses some of the key issues surrounding the efficient database management of moving objects whose location update rate to the database system varies from 1 to 30 minutes. Furthermore, we address the design of a highly scaleable and efficient spatial index structure to support location tracking and querying of large amounts of moving objects. We explore the possible architectural and the data structure level changes that are required to handle large numbers of moving objects. We focus specifically on the index structures that are needed to process spatial range queries and object-based queries on constantly changing moving object data. We argue for the case of main memory spatial index structures that dynamically adapt to continuously changing moving object data and concurrently answer spatial range queries efficiently. A proof-of concept implementation called the yellow tree, which is a distributed main-memory index structure, and a simulated environment to generate moving objects is demonstrated. Using experiments conducted on simulated moving object data, we conclude that a distributed main-memory based spatial index structure is required to handle dynamic location updates and efficiently answer spatial range queries on moving objects.     Economic regulation for multi tenant infrastructures

    Large scale computing infrastructures need scalable and effi cient resource allocation mechanisms to ful l the requirements of its participants and applications while the whole system is regulated to work e ciently. Computational markets provide e fficient allocation mechanisms that aggregate information from multiple sources in large, dynamic and complex systems where there is not a single source with complete information. They have been proven to be successful in matching resource demand and resource supply in the presence of sel sh multi-objective and utility-optimizing users and sel sh pro t-optimizing providers. However, global infrastructure metrics which may not directly affect participants of the computational market still need to be addressed -a.k.a. economic externalities like load balancing or energy-efficiency. In this thesis, we point out the need to address these economic externalities, and we design and evaluate appropriate regulation mechanisms from di erent perspectives on top of existing economic models, to incorporate a wider range of objective metrics not considered otherwise. Our main contributions in this thesis are threefold; fi rst, we propose a taxation mechanism that addresses the resource congestion problem e ffectively improving the balance of load among resources when correlated economic preferences are present; second, we propose a game theoretic model with complete information to derive an algorithm to aid resource providers to scale up and down resource supply so energy-related costs can be reduced; and third, we relax our previous assumptions about complete information on the resource provider side and design an incentive-compatible mechanism to encourage users to truthfully report their resource requirements effectively assisting providers to make energy-eff cient allocations while providing a dynamic allocation mechanism to users.Les infraestructures computacionals de gran escala necessiten mecanismes d’assignació de recursos escalables i eficients per complir amb els requisits computacionals de tots els seus participants, assegurant-se de que el sistema és regulat apropiadament per a que funcioni de manera efectiva. Els mercats computacionals són mecanismes d’assignació de recursos eficients que incorporen informació de diferents fonts considerant sistemes de gran escala, complexos i dinàmics on no existeix una única font que proveeixi informació completa de l'estat del sistema. Aquests mercats computacionals han demostrat ser exitosos per acomodar la demanda de recursos computacionals amb la seva oferta quan els seus participants son considerats estratègics des del punt de vist de teoria de jocs. Tot i això existeixen mètriques a nivell global sobre la infraestructura que no tenen per que influenciar els usuaris a priori de manera directa. Així doncs, aquestes externalitats econòmiques com poden ser el balanceig de càrrega o la eficiència energètica, conformen una línia d’investigació que cal explorar. En aquesta tesi, presentem i descrivim la problemàtica derivada d'aquestes externalitats econòmiques. Un cop establert el marc d’actuació, dissenyem i avaluem mecanismes de regulació apropiats basats en models econòmics existents per resoldre aquesta problemàtica des de diferents punts de vista per incorporar un ventall més ampli de mètriques objectiu que no havien estat considerades fins al moment. Les nostres contribucions principals tenen tres vessants: en primer lloc, proposem un mecanisme de regulació de tipus impositiu que tracta de mitigar l’aparició de recursos sobre-explotats que, efectivament, millora el balanceig de la càrrega de treball entre els recursos disponibles; en segon lloc, proposem un model teòric basat en teoria de jocs amb informació o completa que permet derivar un algorisme que facilita la tasca dels proveïdors de recursos per modi car a l'alça o a la baixa l'oferta de recursos per tal de reduir els costos relacionats amb el consum energètic; i en tercer lloc, relaxem la nostra assumpció prèvia sobre l’existència d’informació complerta per part del proveïdor de recursos i dissenyem un mecanisme basat en incentius per fomentar que els usuaris facin pública de manera verídica i explícita els seus requeriments computacionals, ajudant d'aquesta manera als proveïdors de recursos a fer assignacions eficients des del punt de vista energètic a la vegada que oferim un mecanisme l’assignació de recursos dinàmica als usuari

    In a Peer-to-Peer (P2P) system, multiple interconnected peers or nodes contribute a portion of their resources (e.g., files, disk storage, network bandwidth) in order to inexpensively handle tasks that would normally require powerful servers. Since the emergency of P2P file sharing, load balancing has been considered as a primary concern, as well as other issues such as autonomy, fault tolerance and security. In a process of file search, a heavily loaded peer may incur a long latency or failure in query forwarding or responding. If there are many such peers in a system, it may cause link congestion or path congestion, and consequently affect the performance of overall system. To avoid such situation, some of general techniques used in Web systems such as caching and paging are adopted into P2P systems. However, it is highly insufficient for load balancing since peers often exhibit high heterogeneity and dynamicity in P2P systems. To overcome such a difficulty, the use of super-peers is currently being the most promising approach in optimizing allocation of system load to peers, i.e., it allocates more system load to high capacity and stable super-peers by assigning task of index maintenance and retrieval to them. In this thesis, we focused on two kinds of super-peer based hierarchical architectures of P2P systems, which are distinguished by the organization of super-peers. In each of them, we discussed system load allocation, and proposed novel load balancing algorithms for alleviating load imbalance of super-peers, aiming to decrease average and variation of query response time during index retrieval process. More concretely, in this thesis, our contribution to load management solutions for hierarchical P2P file search are the following: • In Qin’s hierarchical architecture, indices of files held by the user peers in the bottom layer are stored at the super-peers in the middle layer, and the correlation of those two bottom layers is controlled by the central server(s) in the top layer using the notion of tags. In Qin’s system, a heavily loaded super-peer can move excessive load to a lightly loaded super-peer by using the notion of task migration. However, such a task migration approach is not sufficient to balance the load of super-peers if the size of tasks is highly imbalanced. To overcome such an issue, in this thesis, we propose two task migration schemes for this architecture, aiming to ensure an even load distribution over the super-peers. The first scheme controls the load of each task in order to decrease the total cost of task migration. The second scheme directly balances the load over tasks by reordering the priority of tags used in the query forwarding step. The effectiveness of the proposed schemes are evaluated by simulation. The result of simulations indicates that all the schemes can work in coordinate, in alleviating the bottleneck situation of super-peers. • In DHT-based super-peer architecture, indices of files held by the user peers in the lower layer are stored at the DHT connected super-peers in the upper layer. In DHT-based super-peer systems, the skewness of user’s preference regarding keywords contained in multi-keyword query causes query load imbalance of super-peers that combines both routing and response load. Although index replication has a great potential for alleviating this problem, existing schemes did not explicitly address it or incurred high cost. To overcome such an issue, in this thesis, we propose an integrated solution that consists of three replication schemes to alleviate query load imbalance while minimizing the cost. The first scheme is an active index replication in order to decrease routing load in the super-peer layer, and distribute response load of an index among super-peers that stored the replica. The second scheme is a proactive pointer replication that places location information of an index, for reducing maintenance cost between the index and its replicas. The third scheme is a passive index replication that guarantees the maximum query load of super-peers. The result of simulations indicates that the proposed schemes can help alleviating the query load imbalance of super-peers.     M-Grid : A distributed framework for multidimensional indexing and querying of location based big data

    The widespread use of mobile devices and the real time availability of user-location information is facilitating the development of new personalized, location-based applications and services (LBSs). Such applications require multi-attribute query processing, handling of high access scalability, support for millions of users, real time querying capability and analysis of large volumes of data. Cloud computing aided a new generation of distributed databases commonly known as key-value stores. Key-value stores were designed to extract value from very large volumes of data while being highly available, fault-tolerant and scalable, hence providing much needed features to support LBSs. However complex queries on multidimensional data cannot be processed efficiently as they do not provide means to access multiple attributes. In this thesis we present MGrid, a unifying indexing framework which enables key-value stores to support multidimensional queries. We organize a set of nodes in a P-Grid overlay network which provides fault-tolerance and efficient query processing. We use Hilbert Space Filling Curve based linearization technique which preserves the data locality to efficiently manage multi-dimensional data in a key-value store. We propose algorithms to dynamically process range and k nearest neighbor (kNN) queries on linearized values. This removes the overhead of maintaining a separate index table. Our approach is completely independent from the underlying storage layer and can be implemented on any cloud infrastructure. Experiments on Amazon EC2 show that MGrid achieves a performance improvement of three orders of magnitude in comparison to MapReduce and four times to that of MDHBase scheme --Abstract, pages iii-iv
